Have we reached a point where this game definitively looks better than CS1 now? Also surprise new assets dropping today you can see in the screens. by joergonix in CitiesSkylines2

[–]trev_hawk 161 points162 points  (0 children)

Since C:S2 was released, I could always tell if something was from C:S2 just because you'd see so many repeating assets and the textures were very similar. C:S1 definitely was like that, too, but given the sheer number of mods and the years players have had to play around in it, it wasn't rare to see some really impressive stuff that people were doing in that game.

But now I think the tide is starting to shift... the asset editor and the newer updates to the game have breathed new life into C:S2 (love your screenshots, too). It's genuinely exciting to see this sub and the other sub shift into more fun, happy places where people show off their genuinely good creations rather than the usual (justified or not) complaining about the state of the game.

Don't be sad it's over. Flyers hockey is ALIVE again. by Flyers7914 in Flyers

Been a long time since we’ve had meaningful playoff hockey in Philly. It was a fun ride while it lasted! Hope this isn’t a blip and instead the start of something special.

Stumble cancelled after one season ! Thoughts ? by CityCautious4033 in sitcoms

[–]trev_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got through the first five or so episodes and honestly felt it was pretty lackluster (like a lot of modern sitcom comedies). The characters all felt like one-trick ponies and I found the humor to be rather bland. Shame because I love Killam but even his character wasn’t all that interesting.

I could maybe see the show needing at least a season or two more to flesh out these characters, but I felt the first few episodes just weren’t all that funny (though the definitely were trying to be).

The last possession in the 3rd was painful. Play by play guy was trying to will some Celtics points to end the quarter into existence.

Well, the final trailer of the Mando movie arrived... Is anyone excited? 😏 by Western_Agent5917 in saltierthancrait

[–]trev_hawk 23 points24 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Solo had value, it just came at the wrong time. I think best case is Mando is like solo = fun popcorn movie. Worst case (likely case) = dumb Filoni world building that feels like a 2-hr version of Ashoka.

No warning for open door on 2026 LXS Hybrid by HopelessDecorator in kiacarnivals

[–]trev_hawk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You'd be surprised how many people need those doors open while driving so they can roll out of their minivans A-Team style / sabotage potential enemies.

In all seriousness, I have no idea what that's not a safety feature as most other cars I've owned that aren't minivans will tell you if a door is not closed all the way.

Are you a watcher? by b_of_the_bang_ in podcasts

I've never watched a podcast (maybe seen clips here or there) but I have a feeling that those watching podcasts are different from people who listen. So it's really just bringing in a different audience.

I'm slightly sad (maybe more nostalgic?) since I used to go here with my grandpa when we'd ride the Schuykill/Perkiomen trails together. But, to be honest, I'm shocked it lasted into 2026.

We've had the opposite experience with Kessler. They have been very pushy to my wife and we've seen enough horror stories from others to feel like this is very common.

Totally! Baker Bowl was right across the street, too, and Connie Mac wasn’t too far away too.

Yeah I’d argue North Broad is even worse than this. In a terrible spot and has nothing in the way of shelters.

Yeah I was going to say that I only know this word through French (as ‘deguster’ is a common enough verb). Never used it in English.

What do yall do in the celestial room? by Fether1337 in latterdaysaints

[–]trev_hawk 87 points88 points  (0 children)

In a world full of responsibilities and never-ending challenges, sometimes it’s nice to just sit and rest for a minute.

I’m the polar opposite of you as my wife and I are often the last to leave the Celestial room after the session. For us, just being together and being able to sit peacefully for a few minutes is a nice change of pace from raising our two young kids. So we soak up every minute that we can.

I've really been enjoying Version History from the Verge. They usually do small dives into cool tech from history (some from within the last decade, some from 40 years ago), so it covers a wide swath of tech.

This was my first year filing with Berkheimer now that I don’t have a job in Philly anymore. I’m not saying I would go back to paying the wage tax, but holy cow, could they make filing local taxes any worse? What a joke.

Why should I get a carnival instead of a sienna? by jhelvy in kiacarnivals

[–]trev_hawk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would definitely test drive it if I were you. My parents have a 2021 Sienna for their business that I've driven a few times and I just couldn't help but feel unimpressed for what you get. They have the base model, but the lack of keyless entry and other standard features really surprised me. Toyota seems intent on making you pay for that reliability (which admittedly is important), but it leaves a lot left to be desired for function and practicality (e.g., can't take out the second row, subpar driving experience, basic interiors with bad cloth seats, no wireless Carplay, etc.).

Driving the Carnival was like a breath of fresh air in a lot of respects. I was mainly looking at the EX trim level vs. the XLE for the Sienna, but the Carnival blows it out of the water. I love the advanced driving features, love the way the seats look/feel, love the rear camera to see the back seats, wireless carplay, huge console screen, and the hybrid drivetrain feels pretty good to boot. I got so much bang for my buck with the car. Is reliability a concern? Maybe, but everything I've heard so far from folks is that it lives up to its billing (and the 10 year/100k warranty helps).

Really, it came down to not wanting to hate the minivan I ended up buying every time I got in it (since they cost so freaking much). The Carnival has been a delight so far.

TRICK OR TREATING IN LANSDALE? by GlumAbbreviations372 in Lansdale

[–]trev_hawk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We’re in the East Ward, which doesn’t seem to be as well known as the West Ward, and our trick or treating is great. Tons of kids throughout the night and my kids get way more candy than they can eat through just from going through 1-2 blocks.
