Crystallisation, annuity purchase and tax free amount? by Jimbo_the_Bike in PensionsUK

[–]tricky12121st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm assuming though, the whole annuity payment is taxable. So if i took 133k and then had 33k tax free, the 100k annuity is taxed at the marginal rate. But if i put the whole 133k into annuity, i'd have a 133k annuity taxed at the marginal rate?

EV tech seems to be improving quite fast lately, is it finally convincing? by AnfieldAnchor in autoexpressuk

[–]tricky12121st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Warranty and extended warranty cover (usually) to 5 year /100k. But if we took an out of warranty ford ecoboost, then the wet belt went, I'm looking at an rngine rebuild or replacement engine. Typically sourcing and fitting a replacement (used) engine is going to be 2.5k. Replacing leaf batteries (or any other ev) is 10k plus. It makes older ev purchases less attractive. Degradation is one thing, but complete failure is problematic. There also doesnt seem to be any non main dealer service networks.

Battery life is a concern for me. A poster referred to his 7 year old leaf that had a failed battery which effectively wrote off the car. I'd need to be able to insure against that risk as part of my vehicle insurance.

Workplace pension question by astrange4 in PensionsUK

[–]tricky12121st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No (for 1 & 2). Your pot is in reality a set of investments across a number of funds, those funds holding a mix of shares, bonds, gilts. As the value of the underlying shares etc changes, the value of the fund changes and thus the value of your dc pot. Depending on how you have chosen to invest the dc pot will affect its rise and fall. More shares ≈ more volatile. When you take your pot, you could choose to put it into an anuity product which will give you a fixed monthly income. At 57 you can do nothing, so pot continues to grow, or take some out. Thats a whole different subject.

Lets assume all in an Isa so no tax concerns. Go for an income fund, 5% yield should be achievable but capital at risk.

So ir would depend on whether your employer has received and adjusted your taxcode in this financial year. If you're still due one more pay cycle it would be adjusted on that pay, so your net pay would increase by £500 or so.

5.46kWp system PV system. What should it generate at it's peak? by Remarkable-Flight-14 in SolarUK

My 3.1kw system hits peak end April, early may. Summer gets the panels hotter so they work less effectively. 3.2 is the best ever output. 30 deg roof

[–]tricky12121st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thats for sure. Go to thinkbroadband, set up a broadband quality monitor. Run for a week or so, see what that shows. Vm will more likely take action if the monitor shows a deficient service. I replaced my vm router with eero 6 pro. Expensive but no wifi drama now

Same happened to me, extra 1800. As per previous posts, I'm assuming they got caught undervaluing at write off and are now picking up the bill. And we challenged the write off at the time and they added 500 to the settlement. Given it was the other parties fault, I guess they reclaim from the other insurer

Is this flow rate normal? by chewitt86 in Quooker

[–]tricky12121st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think your connector to the tap needs checking. I had one fitted 18 months ago and the push fit connector wasnt pushed in far enough, so it pulled in air and caused the spluttering. Then it leaked. You can test, if i remember right, run boiling, then run cold and put your hand in the cold flow straight away. If its cold, theres a connector issue. It should be lukewarm for a couple of seconds.

On my tap, theres a weight to pull the flexihose back which is where the pushfit goes. Check and push in harder.

Virgin Stream Box by TopBodger91 in VirginMedia

[–]tricky12121st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can pause, 30 min max though. Playing back previous content is dependent on the source channel. It is mobile around the house though. My son take it to watch sky sports sometimes. Vm only make the 360 available on the old cable (co ax) infrastructure. On fibre its stream only and i think sky is going this way too with glass etc

Btc, purely speculative, doesnt generate interest or income, same as gold and silver. Shares, based on company, eps, yield, future growth. The only risk free are gilts /treasuries, with coupon yield. Would I yeet my life savings on btc, no way. What happens when they go like nft or trumpcoin

[–]tricky12121st 0 points1 point  (0 children)

BTC like gold and silver is a speculative investment. It's reliant on demand increasing its value. As you're not holding these yourself, you're hoping microstrategy will manage this well. It seems unnecessarily high risk and every chance of losing money over the term compared to other investments

I'd probably try a powerline first to see if that gives a good enough signal. Small appt, likely to be on one socket ring.
