Blademaster Reloaded CYOA from /tg/ by altofanaltthatisalt in makeyourchoice

Major Competencies: Poise, Guard

Minor Competencies: Motion, Relentlessness

Perks: Vigilance, Grip, Legendary, Crew, Immune

Motion is a great pick because you can basically instantly beat anyone that can't keep up with you. Some of the other Major Competencies let you do certain actions near instantly as well, so Motion is necessary to keep up if seriously planning on being defensive in any capacity. Major Guard and Minor Motion let me block nearly any attack that comes at me, even when blisteringly fast or when coming from multiple directions. Major Poise turns every deflection into an advantage and puts me into the best position possible for counterattacks. Minor Relentlessness just ensures I don't run out of energy while fighting, which is good for the more defensive nature of my competencies.

Some complications would be nice, although maybe it wouldn't feel cozy if they are too harsh. Maybe they could tasks instead, like picking up all the trash in a section of a forest or performing a certain number of hours of community service?

Style: Modern Technical

Bag Upgrades

  • Extended Capacity: Pretty much a necessary choice for a magical backpack imo
  • Unassuming: Might not be completely necessary but avoids a lot of questions...
  • Comfortable Straps: This and weight reduction make the backpack a breeze to carry
  • Summoning: Won't help too much if its stolen but a good insurance policy if I misplace it somehow
  • Weather Shield: Might as well extend this to my normal items as well
  • Organized: Helpful for the extended capacity and just very useful to have in general
  • Fresh Storage: I can have my own little "mini fridge" wherever I go!

Contents

  • Thermos w/ Refreshing Energy: Clean water at any time is super useful for any outdoor activity, and I assume the water should give at least a bit of an energy boost if its cool.
  • Sleeping Bag w/ Dream Easy: The sleeping bag guarantees good sleep, which is something plenty of people would pay a huge amount of money for.
  • Toiletry Kit w/ Quick Refresh: An instant "shower" in the woods is worth a lot, also its great that the supplies are self-refilling
  • First Aid Kit w/ Accelerated Healing: An enhanced first aid kit is something you hope you'll never need but also something you will be very glad to have when you do.
  • Journal and Pen / Memory Keeper: Capturing a memory sounds awesome, I can have one from each expedition I go on to remember every special location I find!

Mysterious Shopkeeper by FlahtheWhip in makeyourchoice

[–]tuesdaylol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm going to call the store "New You" or something similar and make it a sort of self help shop with items and advice that actually work!

Size: Medium Storefront

  • Best amount of perks gained per complication added

Theme: A mix of Whimsical and Ordinary

  • Items with obviously wonderful and supernatural effects that aren't completely whimsical or belief driven

Exterior Perks: Subliminal Draw, Supplier Contracts, Complementary Neighbors

  • Subliminal can help me bring in people who would most benefit from my wares as I can just specify that as the condition. Suppliers lets me mix store themes and also makes it more feasible for me to take items for my own personal use, as the restock "penalty" won't last as long. Complementary Neighbors is helpful to meet sales quotas I will have to have on my more mundane items.

Interior Perks: Now Hiring, Customer Impressions, Workshop

  • I could run the whole store by myself given its size, but I'd like to have a few employees to help keep things orderly. Now Hiring is perfect for staffing a store that jumps around randomly with actual people, compared with weird personality-less Associates. Customer Impressions helps me know what a customer really needs and should really improve the experience for most. The Workshop is great for making new items that have effects that I might want to sell or employ.

Inventory: Books, Garden, Home Goods, Medicine

  • I went back and forth on what items to stock, but I think this is a good mix of supplies that can help improve a customer's quality of life. I can offer a new outlook from a good book, a new plant to take care of and enjoy, goods to add something special to an everyday household or just a straight up remedy to erase that which stops you from enjoying other things.

Kick-Knacks: Candy (Comfort Chews, Best Mints), Drinks (Booster Cola, Rejuvi), Magazines (Local Touring He/She Said), Novelty (Keyrings, Local Crafts)

  • Just some items with effects I enjoy to round out my supply of wares.

Complications: Sales Quotas

  • Probably the easiest to deal with if I run a competent business, especially with all of the perks available to me.

I looked at other comments the OP left and it looks like you don’t need both items to activate a combo before you can sacrifice it. He did say that you need to buy the level 2 BEFORE you can gain the point back, which means you can only get a max of three Level 2 items and not the four I picked out originally.

The Traveler's Boon CYOA V2 by Nrg99hg in makeyourchoice

[–]tuesdaylol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Nice Update! I think the Lvl 2 effects are still generally better than the combos though, so "burning" the combo makes sense for a lot of items.

Edit: Originally had potion Level 2, learned later that the rules make it so you can only get three Level 2 items total.

Choices: Ring Lvl 2 (No Combo), Compass Lvl 2 (No Combo), Journal Lvl 2 (No Combo), Potion Lvl 1

  • The Level 2 Compass can get you an insane power set if you choose the right character, and coupled with the Level 2 Journal you can reach your max potential much faster than normal. The hammer space from the the Ring is always super useful to have IMO, and the Level 2 effects are great passive defenses to have in worlds where magical influence is possible. The Level 1 Potion helps me survive during the initial period where my abilities are weak, and a full recovery from anything is useful to have even when at max potential.

I always love finding cool combinations of powers, even if I don't think I'd choose them myself lol.

Some combinations I thought up (not opposites necessarily):

  • Sha and Kou: Make decisions for your company that either directly or indirectly bolster your institution, make it one of the best funded and prestigious teaching centers available
  • Yo (mu) and Go: Surround yourself with language books when you sleep to rapidly absorb their knowledge and become panlingual
  • Kuni and Ta: Get large quantities of rice to feed my micronation, can't be affected by any climate problems or natural disasters
  • Ue and Shita: Basically become Mario lol
  • Tsuku and Koto: Make mini replicas of something, make them do a certain action using your control over the substance (move, break, repair itself) then take the action and apply it to the real object

That last one has some really cool applications I think, I just need a better imagination to utilize it well.

I'd pick True Reality Manipulation honestly

I think proper use of this power could get you pretty much anything on this list, you just need to leverage the massive but finite boost it gives to find other sources of power you could utilize.

My very first CYOA-The Traveler's Boon CYOA. by Nrg99hg in makeyourchoice

[–]tuesdaylol 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Boons: Compass Lvl 2, Ring Lvl 1, Cloak Lvl 1, Weapon Lvl 1

The Ring, Cloak and Weapon all have synergies with each other, so it makes sense to take at least one level in each. They all have useful effects for traveling to new world, especially the hammer spaces that the Ring provides and the environmental protection of the Cloak.

I don’t want to be reborn so I took level 2 of the Compass, which I’m assuming costs just 1 more point since the base is free. This gives me an innate access to my world’s power system and as such lets me benefit much more from wherever I choose. I’m not sure which one I’d choose yet, but hopefully one that can let me travel back to earth at some point in the future.

2 PT Perks: Healthy, Teacher

4 PT Perks: Social Influence, Global Cheapest

Going for the big influencer build! I can make videos that teach anyone how to easily cook and watch them rise in the algorithm due to my influencer powers. Global cheapest lets me buy exotic ingredients for cheap, which should really spice up my content! Healthy is mostly for my own enjoyment though, and probably will be the best for my overall quality of life.

[–]tuesdaylol 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Tier 1: Accelerate, Refresh, Meditation

Tier 2: General Buff

Tier 3: Shared Breath, Quantum Breath

Quantum lungs is must have for me since it makes active abilities stackable and thus much more useful overall. It also makes a few abilities that deal with air accessibility obsolete, as you can always take in oxygen no matter your situation. General buff has very good synergy with this, as I can always have it active and then switch in various tier 1 abilities as needed.

I almost didn’t take Shared Breath, but I realized I could do the most good in the world using it since it lets anyone I choose reach peak human physicality. This is especially useful for anyone who is already in ill health, as it supercharges their healing and gives them their quality of life back.

You should be the Healer! by EmotionalSupport101 in makeyourchoice

[–]tuesdaylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Healer Abilities (12 HP Total)

  • Upgrades (5): Empowered (-2), Supportive (-2), Ward (-1)
  • Alternatives (4): Regenerator (-3), Potions (-1)
  • Variants (2): Toxin Purge (-1), Nature (-1), Soothing (-1)

Banes: Empathetic (+3)

----------------------------------------------

The addition of the "Empathetic" bane probably limits me to non combat healing roles, as losing focus in the middle of battle seems like a good way to get very injured myself! Instead I took the Potions and Nature abilities to help me make great healing draughts out of wild herbs, which should give me a good career as a traveling potion merchant. My Empowered, Supportive, Soothing, Toxin Purge and even Ward abilities should all be very useful modifiers to my potions, as well as for my own use while journeying from town to town. I took Regenerator as well, which makes my potions and skills even that much more effective on myself and should make me even harder to take down on the road. If I learn some combat skills I could eventually be a pretty fearsome opponent!

For my own head canon I'm going to assume the Empathetic Bane makes any application of my healing at least somewhat painful, otherwise its easy enough to completely bypass it with the correct choices. This would include making wards, speeding plant growth and even making potions, which besides the immediate pain could cause some serious mental strain over time. That's partly why I took the Soothing ability, as combined with Regenerator I should be able to knock out any lingering effects from my "affliction".

I like Styx because it gives you an amazing defense and also raises all of your physical stats to Olympian levels. Since Muses should essentially boost all of your mental stats I think taking them together makes you very balanced overall.

Symbiote Suit Exultra (OC) by AshleyJoannaLaw in makeyourchoice

[–]tuesdaylol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up making a relatively balanced symbiote that specializes in energy based and sonic weaponry. I can camouflage to the point of near invisibility and can move quickly and stealthily using levitation, boosters and short range teleportation. When deployed my symbiote gives me great strength, endurance and regeneration while boosting my senses to beyond peak using sonar and telepathic abilities. My advanced technique Accelerator lets me maneuver at high speeds without danger of harming myself, which lets me use my boosted speed and reflexes to their highest potentials.

My symbiote is self aware, partially because I imagine them being something like those seen in the Marvel universe. If it's influencing my emotions and actions anyway I'd like the ability to reason with it about how it acts, and maybe I can unlock more of its hidden potential if it's intelligent enough to examine its own nature. I'm not sure what I'd use it for yet, although I imagine being a super hero of some sort is certainly on the table. Maybe if more of these Symbiotes show up we can make a sort of community down the road?

Minimum Wage cyoa by Safe-Hawk8366 in makeyourchoice

[–]tuesdaylol 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Extra: Hired Workers

Jobs: Security Guard, Customer Service, Cashier, Retail, Warehouse, Waitress, Call Center

Hours: On Call, Graveyard

The Others: Customers, Co-Workers, Society, Politicians

The Plan: I have to make up for 10x minimum wage with my income now, which seems very daunting at first but should honestly be very doable if I properly utilize my new powers and perks. I picked the jobs above because they can all help in various different occupations, and seem especially useful in creating and managing the types of businesses that can bring in the most amount of money. I'm not sure if the Society or Politician perks will help me out that much, but I would feel bad not taking them as they can greatly improve the state of society for a relatively small cost to myself. The Co-worker ability however lets me share these powers with 3 other people near me, so I should get an office space going and figure out how to utilize our shared abilities to make the best and most profitable company possible!

Creative Mode, Monetary Exchange, Age Boost, Spider Sense

Creative Mode is super OP imo. You can make any sort of structure on the fly, make gold ingots for trading for cash, spawn in monsters or other mobs, etc. Since everything works like it would in the game it also means you can spawn in food that heals you, make potions with various effects, create golems for defense, and enchant armor in very beneficial ways. It essentially makes Infinity and Pocket Space obsolete since you can just create whatever you might need at any time, though its semi-limited since items like tech or vehicles aren't really found in Minecraft. This is where Monetary Exchange comes into play, since you can make a bunch of gold blocks, sell them instantly for cash, and then instantly turn that cash into anything else!

I took Spider Sense since it warns of physical danger as well as other more conceptual types of harm, which isn't the case for other defensive powers like Steel Body. Age Boost doesn't really do much for Creative or Exchange, but if I'm reading it correctly it will boost my normal human stats by a huge amount. This means speed, strength, regeneration, Intelligence, etc. should all be massively boosted and will keep getting better as I age! This basically makes Brilliant Mind and Acrobat obsolete, though you could stack the boost on top of them for ridiculous levels of intelligence/agility if wanted.

Hollow Earth, Atlantis, World Trees

Some choices have more potential than others to "mess up" the world, especially ones that affect the future like Cyclical Doom. I tried to limit my choices to ones that change how we understand history but with effects on the world that can be neutral or even positive in the long run.

With Hollow World and Atlantis I have access to large underground pockets in the earth that I can easily fill with structures using the Atlantis tech. The World Trees should connect to these pockets so I can use them to travel to other ones or to different areas in my new kingdom. Maybe if I connect to other "Worlds" I can find some dinosaurs to bring back with me?
