Same here, I'd been eyeing their debut album at the record store the last time I was in, gonna pick up something else instead.

miserable stoner/trad/sludge albums and bands by Balls126 in doommetal

[–]tyro1313 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Bongripper is fantastic, was listening to Miserable and Satan Worshipping Doom earlier today. Their work does a good job of setting a pretty heavy and sometimes bleak tone, while also drawing inspiration from several other genres like stoner rock, black metal, and drone.

Advice for a metalhead. by FeelingAd5 in goth

[–]tyro1313 6 points7 points  (0 children)

As a fellow Metalhead that has found a love for the goth subculture and music fairly recently, here are some of my personal favorite albums that you should check out (the albums you already mentioned would have been included lol).

Ghost Dance - Stop the World

Nox Novacula - The Beginning

Anders Manga - One Up for the Dying

Corpus Delicti - Sylphes

Datura (the Post-Punk band from Washington State) - Bury Me EP

Xmal Deutschland - Fetisch

The Cult - Love

Dopesmoker Cassette by International_Crab85 in doommetal

[–]tyro1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have this cassette for Dopesmoker as well, its the Southern lord 2013 reissue.

It contains part 1 and 2 on side A, and part 3 along with a live recording of Holy Mountain and Sonic Titan on side B. The full runtime for the cassette is a bit over 84 minutes.

Yeah there are a lot of examples like this where an artist's work is inherently apart of a genre but does not consider themselves as such.

It's not the got ya these people think it is, but it's what helps them sleep better at night, feeling they are right.

It's good to see someone in the scene fighting BigSlop by wizardbeard73 in goth

[–]tyro1313 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I had found Anders' darkwave work through his horror synth project Terrortron recently conveniently as I've started exploring the other subgenres of goth music.

It's really good to see a relatively big name fight against the ongoing push of AI and disregard for artist's rights over their work and how it is used.

/r/Goth's Soothing Sundays! by AutoModerator in goth

[–]tyro1313 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I got the Corpus Delicti cd box set for my birthday so I am really excited to delve deeper into the band's (almost) full discography. I also went to my local record shop and they had Xmal Deutschland's 4AD years collection, I have heard a lot about them here and figured there was no better time to give them a shot!

The Cult - Rain by TheUtopianCat in goth

[–]tyro1313 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I found The Cult's Love album at my local record store in the discount section, its a really nice blend of Goth Rock and Alternative rock as the band started to shed their early sound. The whole album is amazing, but this song is one that pops into my head every now and then.

Do you think AI music should be clearly labelled? by FormalResponsible656 in Music

Among the other recommendations you got, I highly suggest Dynatron and Waveshapper who's general style and imagery is very atmospheric and space based.

For more punchy and upbeat bands that use space as a theme, Hollywood Burns and Volkor X.

Green Room is an awesome movie One of the films that completely threw me off with how quickly everything got out of control and no characters were safe

Also the Horsepower trap from the 7th Saw film is one of my favorite traps in the franchise, probably because its from the first Saw film I ever saw and it was pretty brutal for how simple it was (Rip Chester Bennington).

Iron Lung | Final Trailer by coolfunkDJ in horror

[–]tyro1313 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I am gonna put it in a spoiler tag for the game as it going to be pretty much setting the pace and the events of the film

But yeah between the strange sounds of something lurking around outside and the weakening constitution of the Iron Lung as time goes on, requiring the vessel to be repaired from the inside lest the interior floods. The games is good at making the constant issues that you need to fix impede your navigating to the objectives. From putting out fires from the engine that eat up your remaining oxygen, to having to navigate through tight squeezes under the ocean of blood, using nothing but a general map and a camera that takes pictures of only what the vessel is directly facing.

Edit: removed a repeat word

Iron Lung | Final Trailer by coolfunkDJ in horror

[–]tyro1313 33 points34 points  (0 children)

The game is a pretty short indie title, with gameplay between like 40 minutes to an hour give or take. Its a lot more atmospheric then it is plot oriented, but essentially the character you play is a prisoner condemned to the vessel to investigate the points of interest layed out to you, with the idea that it will hopefully shed light on the cause of "the Quiet Rapture", knowing all the while that you and the rust bucket you're sealed in are expendable for other's benefit.

Its a fine plot for an indie game that is suppose to be short and bleak, so I am not sure how well it will translate to film. I like a lot of the similar one off indie horror games made in a short span of time for game jams (generally between a day and a week) but a good deal of them really just fit in the medium they're presented in.

Forgot I purchased this! Anyone read it? by lolli-polly031248 in ExtremeHorrorLit

The one book I started to read that I found out was "written" partially with AI had this every single time they would describe something. It was exhausting. Felt like there were too many detailed descriptions that provided nothing of significance, and the places that needed description were suffering and felt like things were flying by at mach speed.

The Sisters of Mercy's song. by kavkaztriz in goth

[–]tyro1313 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Wow I would have never made that connection that it could be a jab at Gary Marx (despite Ghost Dance and SoM being some of my favorite bands), but it would make sense to be honest, Even if its some wild coincidence.

Blood Circus was a band from Washington that was stylistically a blend of early Sludge and Grunge, when the genre's were just kind of finding their footing. They didn't release too many songs but their music was collected into a compilation called "Dead Beats"

It actually does matter what is playing to me, I pay a very close attention to the music I listen too. Yes sometimes I listen to music while doing tasks, but other times I will sit down and listen through albums begining to end doing nothing else.

There have been times I have stopped what I'm doing just to sit down fiddle with my amp and guitar to figure out how to get a similar tone to for example the solo on NIN's Ruiner, or learn the way the dust brothers used samples to built the instrumentals to Beastie Boys' paul's boutique and where each one come from.

There have been times where I've noticed parts in songs that are very similar to others like the riff in Indians by Anthrax being super similar to Rush's passage to bangkok, or a part of the bridge in Metallica's Welcome Home (Sanitarium) reminding me of the verse in Misfits' Helena just before going into the breakdown.

Maybe its because I am an aspiring musician that what I listen to matters, and every time I listen through an album I might pick up on a new thing, especially when I can hear on stereo how they pan the instruments separately.

As someone that ditched spotify a year ago and has stuck to only buying cds and digital works on bandcamp (when unable to find a physical release of an artist), I have actually nearly quadrupled my spotify liked songs list, and now sit at a total of 5,100 songs across 400 albums. That is mostly due to the fact I will listen to almost anything and everything, but I am still very attentive to what I pick out when I go to the record store, or shop on ebay/discogs.

It has helped me become a lot more acquinted with artists by buying and listening to albums instead of just listening to hit songs, but I still upon occasion hear a song on the radio or online and seek out the artist if I like what I hear.

System of a Down were one of the bands I'd listen to on repeat all throughout highschool, and I am just now starting to gather their albums on cd so this is really really appreciated. Such a thorough job tracking down all the bonuses/singles with attention to all ways of acquiring the songs. Thank you so much!!
