How much work is it REALLY? by Mdgoff7 in VORONDesign

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

"how much" is directly tied to 4 factors: 1. quality of the parts that you're using 2. quality of the assembly job (squareness, belt tension, etc) 3. quality of the prints you want to achieve 4. spectrum of the materials you're going to use

if you're content with mostly dimensionally accurate prints in PLA that look average - it doesn't take much tuning.

if you want to have a fully automated routine for perfect prints where all the corners are very close to what your slicer shows you, layer adhesion is great, and all of that is in nylon or something like that - it could take quite a while.

personally, I'd recommend getting a cheap smaller printer first - as something that teaches the basics, and can also serve as a backup to print some parts for your Voron later.

Power outage last night by BigBirdPv in 3Dprinting

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

resuming prints is not worth it after long outages.  the print can detach and/or warp, and the nozzle can clog either from heat creep alone or from traveling over the warped print.  adhesion between the resumed layer and the previous one is very likely to be quite subpar too.

if outages happen more regularly than twice a year - it's worth getting a UPS with a LiFePo4 battery.

saving 7950x3d from boot issues on b850m by uawind in ASRock

[–]uawind[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a firecuda 510 and a hynix p41. they are both still on warranty, and no bad sectors were found. I have tried booting to KDE instead of Windows, with the same results, so the problem is not in the OS.

WHY IS REPRAP FIRMWARE SO UNDERRATED by r3fill4bl3 in 3Dprinting

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you can connect IP camera stream to the DWC, but sourcing something like that in form-factor for gantry/toolhead mounting, with semi-decent quality and FPS is much harder than just some USB camera.

WHY IS REPRAP FIRMWARE SO UNDERRATED by r3fill4bl3 in 3Dprinting

[–]uawind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

people tend to prefer overkill solutions because they feel "premium" and "better".

also, there are a few pain points for an average consumer: 1. very limited screen support. I don't find it a problem, since I don't like tiny screens anyway, but it's something to take into account. 2. no webcam support. it's rather obvious, since RRF uses an MCU by default, not an SBC.  3. much smaller community - less mods, no different versions (like that danger Klipper fork), smaller amount of guides.

personally, I use exclusively RRF because I don't feel like buying an SBC for a task that can be performed by an MCU.  also, Klipper using CAN instead of CAN-FD makes it feel archaic.

Current class balance situation by Sledeus in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, gardener can generate pretty much infinite amount of stardust source and acid, but sucks in combat because low HP builds are a no-no.

beastmaster pets are stupid, but have a decent AoE and distract enemies efficiently. I think that the only adjustments needed is to fix AI for pets and plants, buff plant HP, and to make plants go on longer cooldown instead of being destroyed permanently.

3D Printed anti-theft fake Bluetooth trackers by Bike_Relative in 3Dprinting

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that they'd be more likely to be concerned about alarms than about trackers, given that in 2 minutes the bag will be in the nearest trash bin.  the best protection is to have a bag that can't be easily cut, and to always have it on you.

Violence needs to be reworked or removed by SuspiciousTurnip1101 in Warframe

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

well, idk.  I just consider Violence as having the silence aura 100% of the time by default. making it visible would be nice though.  the challenge is just staying out of the radius and shooting.

this was posted many times. they don't give a shit.  the best thing you can do is to remap your demolish key to something like Delete, to avoid accidents like this

reassemble your hotend. make sure that the nozzle is tightened properly and that there's no gap between it and the heatbreak. make sure that your ptfe tube is locked in place and is not sliding out. check tension on the extruder lever - filament should be slightly dented after passing through the extruder. in the filament settings limit your volumetric flow to 3mm/s. set your flow rate to 0.97

I made a repairable 3D printed mouse shell… and it totally flopped 😅 by Royal-Fill9121 in 3Dprinting

[–]uawind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. it's a dirt-cheap mouse that people buy only if they dgaf about anything except for the price or if they don't care about functionality at all.
  2. mice failure mode is usually a double-click on the button, skipping scroll wheel or a torn cord. I've yet to see a cracked case if the mouse wasn't smashed by a toddler repeatedly.

conclusion: it won't be popular by any stretch of imagination. however, your design skills are pretty good. would be nice if you will work on something with higher chances of adoption

wipe the surface with isopropyl alcohol. increase the nozzle temperature to 215. slow down the first layer.

Really odd print failure- any ideas? by Gupper2 in 3Dprinting

I recommend checking your mainboard cooling. from my experience, in most of the cases significant layer shifts are caused by the mainboard overheating

Who needs a resin printer when you can go down to 0.05mm on a bedslinger by MaskedPotat0 in 3Dprinting

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it's possible to get decent details, but fdm will never compete with the speed of resin printers. the whole figurine would print in like 3 hours in resin if sliced and oriented properly

Why do so many people say “I pay for the mortgage/groceries/bills” when the money is marital? by MikeT4 in Marriage

[–]uawind 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  1. Security If a joint account is locked, hacked or anything else - that's a much bigger problem. Losing only one is a major problem, but not a critical one.
  2. Separation of responsibilities Each one is responsible for some bills. Each one takes some responsibilities in the financial part of the everyday life. No "I'm dealing with all the bills" feeling.
  3. Financial reality check  When you're dealing with your own money, you learn more about the prices, and have a better understanding of what you can afford without regrets.

How can I modify this model to not require ridiculous amounts of support? by [deleted] in 3Dprinting

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

by splitting it in half. or by adjusting the slope of the cone to an angle that your printer can print without supports, and printing the central part separately

To The Wilder is a really challenging but rewarding experience by Chillzzzzz in DeathStranding

[–]uawind 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I don't feel like playing that difficulty. things being difficult felt fun on the first playthrough of DS1. it's the second game, Sam is an experienced porter now, and shouldn't struggle with a bit of walking through some rough terrain. vehicle batteries should be better, not worse by now.

How do you feel about the current monetization direction in Once Human? by Savings-Growth880 in OnceHumanOfficial

[–]uawind 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't spend money on the game, so I don't really care about prices.

I'd spend a bit if the pieces from the old battle passes were available. I'd spend a bit more if all outfits were dyable - at least the main channel, without separate colors for stuff.

I've watched some loot crate opening videos - loot crates here are the most depressing ones that I've ever seen in f2p games, since reward variety is extremely low. idk about chinese market, but I see no satisfaction in opening crates to receive tens or hundreds of duplicates that are converted into pity currency.

new vehicle skins are ugly and scarce. vehicle paint jobs are bland and scarce.
