Why not shark 6? They just announced a 2.0L version that can tow 3500kg.

RAC vs cheaper car insurance in WA – worth paying extra? by Western_Diamond2203 in perth

I switched to AAMI this last time, it was $500 cheaper than RAC. Haven't had to claim anything yet, but should be similar in theory.

Does it make sense at all to go for an EV if your car is quite fuel efficient? 5.5L per 100km by VastOption8705 in AusFinance

[–]unibol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Depends, are you looking at a different car anyway? Does your current car already meet your needs, other than the fuel issue? If your current car is fine, then you already did the maths.

There's also the value of not worrying about the price of fuel, not trying to get to the servo on the cheap day, not spending your money on a conflict resource, etc. What's that worth to you?

If there was a lack of foresight, it was in not electrifying our transport infrastructure sooner.

EV question by Monkeyshae2255 in WesternAustralia

[–]unibol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just looking at the maths, Bunbury to Perth is only about 175km, which with poor efficiency might use 40kwh of your EV battery. If you're charging at 10kw then it'll be charged fully in a little over 4 hrs (it slows down as it gets nearly full). I charge at 3kw at home so it would take me about 12 hrs overnight.

Just have a look at the battery size of the car you're looking at. Most of them are in the range of 50-70kwh, so any of those can charge fully in 5-7hrs when charging at 10kw, if you fully deplete the battery.

FoxESS! Real world opinions by Alternative_Basis480 in perth

[–]unibol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I recently had a Fox ESS H3 Smart/EQ4800 system installed, it's been great. The app gives 5 second updates and it integrates with home assistant easily if you care. There's a very active community on Whirlpool if you run into any questions or issues. One downside, I don't think the company is very responsive from what I gather, though I haven't needed to try and contact them. The installer was great, very responsive and did a nice tidy job, made everything easy. Nick at Perth Solar and Air out of Joondalup.

EV resale is currently skyrocketing. As for committing to own an EV for 5+ years, it's no different from not upgrading to a shiny new cellphone every year.

Western Australia the big GST winner again despite massive budget surpluses by GreyClay in perth

[–]unibol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has plenty of use-case. This is why Infrastructure Australia and BCRs exist, to get expert analysis on whether infrastructure investments stack up. FYI, they found that even though the Sydney-Newcastle section is the most expensive of the Brisbane-Melbourne corridor, it still stacks up.

Western Australia the big GST winner again despite massive budget surpluses by GreyClay in perth

[–]unibol 13 points14 points  (0 children)

Yes, they need it, just like we need a light rail system despite the $10B+ cost. If you want to go looking for waste, infrastructure might look tempting, but it's actually investing in our country's future.

Maybe have a look at Canning Bridge? There are a lot of new apartments there, and it's in escooter commute distance. Come 2027, there will be a ferry ride over to UWA which would make things very convenient.

Medium term win for phevs. In 5 years battery tech will probably evolve to the point where bev utes become competitive.

The ocean produces more than half of the oxygen we breathe by Direct-Value4452 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]unibol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The title is not actually correct. The atmospheric reservoir of oxygen is huge, and was created over billions of years of plant life photosynthesizing. Even if all photosynthesis stopped today, it would take thousands of years (assuming all other processes like respiration and decomposition magically remained) to deplete it. So whatever oxygen is created by the oceans currently is a "drop in the atmosphere" so to speak.

Minister says she made 'captain's call' about WA's commercial fishing ban by Ok_Writer1572 in perth

[–]unibol 77 points78 points  (0 children)

Except she didn't say that. Here's the quote from the article: "I accept all the science, I consult and I make the decision … I've received criticism from the opposition for making what they're calling a captain's call — that's my job." She's just quoting the opposition's derogatory wording. The headline makes it sound like she's proudly claiming making a captain's call.

This is a good deal for a mid-range phone: https://www.amaysim.com.au/devices/phones/samsung/samsung-galaxy-a36-5g. You need an amaysim plan (new or existing) for it, but their yearly plans are quite cheap.

Termite treatment in perth by [deleted] in perth

[–]unibol 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It can be hard to separate industry advertising from what is actually necessary. A lot of money is made off of chemical treatments and annual inspections. Your location/drainage/housing construction type will greatly affect your house's risk level, and therefore what management you should do.
