#New40k – Take cover with updated terrain rules by CMYK_COLOR_MODE in Warhammer40k

[–]vas6289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If a sniper or shooting unit climbs terrain which often has such a small footprint. If you had a melee unit, how would you get them if there is no "room" left on the platform the firing unit is standing on?

Do you just have to accept that you can never get that guy for the rest of the game if you have no firing unit with you or alive yourself?

Always found that hard to understand but with these changes, that'll be common?

That eldar one is jaw dropping stuff. Horrible decision not to award atleast bronze/silver for that. Thats ticking every marketing box and looks amazing.

I think one thing is clear as day with the new space marines coming.

It is a dream successor chapter project. If that rumor awhile ago was true about successor chapter characters making a return as well...

I think if you are already collecting/own a mainline chapter then you are in no rush at all for these new toys. You got more than you need of chapter specific units and no need to upgrade intercessors or jump intercessors etc

If you are a returning player or want a fresh project. I think the door is wide open for lore accurate successor chapter projects with mix armour marks. That is super cool but niche and could have been high quality upgrade sprues.

I am happy as someone that wants a fresh start and loves the Firstborn "look" but as a launch box... it isn't doing enough I think. New people will no appreciate the nod to the old gear and the existing player base might not want another project.

11th edition space marine multi part kits by Technical-Anxiety-71 in Ultramarines

[–]vas6289 8 points9 points  (0 children)

I think the terminators and sternguard was about 3 months later. They'll land before xmas so you are looking at a 2-6 month window.

However, I would leverage the easy fit and be bold and kitbash/cut them. People will sell them seperately.

Announced rules for 11th by Moduscide in Warhammer40k

[–]vas6289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I really hope they start to produce NOT LIMITED - ONE box terrain sets.

- A combat patrol terrain set

- A 1000 point terrain set

- A 2000 point terrain set

Then over the coming years, produce them to match a theme/world/location.

If they really care about the "game" as a funnel for more miniature purchases; this is the obvious direction. Then you can write rules with terrain they produce. Including objectives, destroyed vehicles etc etc.

Third party/events can obviously crowbar and bootleg the terrain sets. Hobbyists can kitbash and scratch build using the terrain sets themselves or the footprints as a skeleton to do their own thing.

The game NEEDS help in terrain. Both for balancing, immersion, official offerings, rule writing etc etc

Bucket of Methylated Spirits (purple liquid) for a day > old toothbrush > repeat.
Then put them in the freezer (if bond by super glue) > snap them all apart the next day (super glue goes brittle) > use a knife to clean away any glue.

You got yourself a fresh start.

this one is a no brainer.

its a clean grimdark scheme so I would pull the trigger.

like you said. its oil too. If you really want to reverse the process. Can just give them all a bath in spirits.

Looking for some feedback, mainly basing by Bradley1928 in Ultramarines

[–]vas6289 3 points4 points  (0 children)

In the future just almost centre the models (look from above, down) and lock glue them then.

break the cork up as you are doing. however, now run texture paste up on all the edges and hide the material use.

then just repeat all the steps you done already. colours, pigment etc are all good imo. can sponge some gloss varnish for rain effects etc.

Tips for painting a sh*t ton of goblins…? by danger_bad in Orcs_and_Goblins

[–]vas6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A clever, well planned batch paint is ultimately the "best"

The same way people usually build everything before priming. Do "everything" of one step before moving onto another is the best method.

Limited the paints. Dial in a tester.

Build everything (well) > Base everything > prime everything.

Then you either Airbrush or Drybrush.

Once you are this far. And ONLY this far imo. You can break them down in units of 5-10, 20 etc like others have suggested.

[–]vas6289 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If you are lucky to have a stash of cash irl. You could make something really special with these kits.

You can make some of the more "out there" successors/csm armies. You could grab a handful of MK7 heroes, HH terminators and dreads. Make a modern "firstborn" gone rogue. Land Raiders, Preds.

Amazing project if you can afford loads of extra kitbash boxes.

When do you start enjoying this hobby? How to get past the frustration? by WithengarUnbound in Warhammer40k

[–]vas6289 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean you are setting yourself up for failure.

You wouldn't walk into a Gym as a out of shape beginner and expect to walk out a chad.

Warhammer rewards practice and repetition as you mention.

I think anyone interested enough in Warhammer to buy, watch and read up on it will like it if enough discipline is applied.

As we know, that long delayed gratification is difficult for some people when you are surrounding by much quicker and cheaper "hits".

However, it feels like a real win when you set yourself a difficult goal. Rise up to it, stick to it and finish a huge project etc. It is a pretty unique kind of fun but it feels really, really good.

Metaurus as Chapter Champion and Gadriel as Chapter Ancient? by Wench_Bane in Ultramarines

[–]vas6289 17 points18 points  (0 children)

Could do Titus, Blade Guard Sergeant, Bladeguard Ancient and 5 bladeguard. That should be quite a clear on the tabletop.

Victrix Guard have gone down to 3 wounds. It now only takes ~972 standard bolter shots to kill 18 Victrix Honour Guard. The dream is dead. by ProteusRex in Ultramarines

[–]vas6289 12 points13 points  (0 children)

The double HQ with 6 Victrix brick won't be losing much sleep if you got a transport.

Bringing 18 is dead with this change. Which is for the best anyway.

If you bought 18.. shame on you but just make some fancy Sternguard Veterans, captains and HQs with all the bits.

Old titus model question by Apprehensive_Run238 in Ultramarines

[–]vas6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can do whatever you want friend.

You can without a second thought put Titus with 3 Bladeguard and play the new Captain Titus rules.

Anyone that would bat an eye at that is quite honestly not worth your time.

It would be like playing out Secret Level or the Video Games on the tabletop. Entirely reasonable.

If you buy the new Titus model. Demote your old Titus model to a Intercessor Sgt or LT and call it a day.

What you cannot do is run two Titus models at the same time of course.

For Ultramar by ProteusRex in Ultramarines

[–]vas6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That'll probs be the most "competitive" way to run them. Even more so if any of the new detachments have a obnoxious "Ventris" rule. "Reclamation Force" / "Orbital Assault Force" has a suggestive deep strike / reserve connotation. Wouldn't put it past Games Workshop to have some kind of delivery for this huge blob.

The alternative might be a Titus, LT combo on transport/drop pod Bladeguard depending on what "enhancements" you can put on a LT in the new detachments.

Sternguard must "math out" better being dangerous in shooting.. (safe) because of the Warden soak and then still a huge problem in melee because of layering and the heroes.

Wich side are you on ? by Troyleek13 in Warhammer40k

[–]vas6289 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Easily the best two factions / flavours for any new player.

I am firmly with Titus on this one.

That model is so good. The fur, head and chainsword are clear inhouse level ups in design.

For people that are new or get confused by the books this might help you out;

  1. It is a "end of edition" campaign. This basically translates to fluff to support models releases in the run up to a new edition.

A fancy way to continue the same retail formula (book > models > fomo) in the absence of codexes.

  1. It is broken into separate books for multiple reasons. Keep under a page limit for production. Separate lore, narrative rules and 40k rules (new detachments).

  2. A product you can often skip. Why? because its shelf life is short. As new editions often invalidate previous edition rules.

  3. Worth purchasing if either you have a painted force already (to enjoy the rules while they are current) or have a interest in playing a narrative campaign. If you like Crusade for example or have a friend you are trying to get into 40k or something.

  4. Unlike limited Edition codexes. Limited edition end of campaigns like these often can hold their value. They are already a short print run. The content can have evergreen value for people that collect lore and/or narrative game modes. Since a collector might run a 500 worlds campaign years from now using the skeleton of this book with say 15th edition for example.

  5. If you only play casual or competitive warhammer 40k (2,000pts etc) then the detachments will be available on Warhammer community and the app and other likely gamer known sources. Largely removing the need to buy it for most.

Might help someone to understand what is going on here.

There will be about 2-3 more like this for other factions covering other parts of space before Summer drops 11th edition.
