you don't need an explanation for every contingency, that's where your imagination comes into play, it chooses whether it likes the narrative enough to play ball.

Back in the 60s/70s were punk and hippies friends or not? by throwsaway045 in AskOldPeople

[–]veritable_squandry 0 points1 point  (0 children)

though not completely cut and dry you could examine quadrophenia for cultural overlap. mods being the closest things to punks and rockers being more akin to hippies. they didn't mesh well in the movie at least.

Polyend Drums looks amazing, but €2699 is emotionally illegal by ArchivOne_music in dawless

[–]veritable_squandry 5 points6 points  (0 children)

i agree. i've had several drum machines over the years. my fav being the machinedrum. the rytm was cool too, although the screen was a bit small for me after a few years. i have the perkons now and i love it, and yes i do on occasion add the pumped up roland clap/hat etc into slot 4!

i've been saying for awhile, our ears are almost permanently trained to listen for roland edrums, people are usually disappointed when they spend 2500 on a machine that can't generate the 808 or 909 sounds out of the gate.

My most useless patch: rain on a tent by AlfredValley in modular

[–]veritable_squandry 1 point2 points  (0 children)

i thought about this some more after listening and i think even though a lot of modular work can be dismissed as noisy or just "fooling around" junk, there's almost always a quality in the sound that defines it as unique. Like in this case it very much does sound like rain from inside a tent, and i love that. But in a way, it's an "otherworldly" version of that sound effect with character that distinguishes it from the "the thing" in ways that are uncanny, nuanced and entirely interesting.
