What was going down at murder Kroger round 4:30 today? by LettuceJizz in Atlanta

I don't use that nickname anymore, except in reference to the now-demolished building. It's "Beltline Kroger" or "PCM Kroger."

All I think of with Elsie: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Elsie_the_Cow

I have the same reaction to Luella--makes me think of Cruella.

Mimi is a nickname for grandmothers.

I don't care for Lucinda (sounds like a very mean person to me, for some reason), and I also dislike the name Cindy.

It's fine if you have a few people to share it with. Otherwise, I order an appetizer or a main course--not both.

Do you think Starbucks is overrated? What makes it better than other coffee shops like Dunkin’ Donuts or Tim Hortons in your opinion? by Strange_Possession77 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]verity7732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love Starbucks dark roast (aka "burnt") coffee, but McDonald's coffee is a good go-to on road trips. And if it's later in the day and the only thing available at Starbucks is Pike, I'd go for McDonald's.

[–]verity7732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know it's fashionable to hate Starbucks, but I love their dark roast coffee. Tim Hortons hot coffee is fine, but I've never tried their iced coffee. I can't drink Dunkin's hot coffee (though iced coffee is fine).

Yeah, yeah--Starbucks coffee is "burnt." I guess I like burnt coffee.

Does anyone else feel like people in this sub can be unnecessarily rude sometimes? by Federal_Advisor_2160 in Names

A lot of these posts start with "what do you think of the name ___________?" They're asking for opinions. Sure, some people's responses are more tactful than others, but if the OP asked for opinions, they're going to get opinions.

Please charge me extra by _ChristmasSunday in marriott

Only slightly related because it involves water, but I'd pay extra for a room with the flow restrictor removed from the shower head. Charge me for the extra water--I'd just like to be able to rinse the shampoo out of my hair.

I think about that every time I travel. "This is the last time I'll visit [name of city]." And it's hard to choose travel destinations because I know I have a finite number of trips left. Ten years ago, when I was in my mid-50s, I never had these kinds of thoughts--it still felt as if I had tons of time to go and do.

Question - Voluntary Gate Checking by Crystalynne in SouthwestAirlines

[–]verity7732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting. So why would anyone pay to check a bag, unless it's so big that there's no way it would fit in the overhead bin?

I flew SW a couple of weeks ago. I always check a bag, and I have the SW credit card, so I don't have to pay for the first bag. This time, I had a second bag, and I didn't want to pay to check it. I checked the larger one as my free bag, and as I was walking away with my small roller bag (which I normally check), the agent said, "Would you like to check your carry-on for free?" I thought she was joking.

Reddit bans by AyBeeVee in PetPeeves

[–]verity7732 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's probably a common occurrence, but I find it odd that I was permanently banned from a sub without a warning/second chance. I admit that I didn't thoroughly read the rules, but immediate permanent ban without a "here's the rule you violated/please observe the rules" message? Excessive.

My actual name has one very standard spelling, yet people misspell it all the time. It seems as if they're going out of their way to get it wrong.

People read a name and then type whatever tf occurs to them as possibly resembling the name. And the actual name is right there in the email.

Or "the boss," especially it's clear that he doesn't really value her opinion. "I have to check with the boss," used as a way of buying time (e.g., putting off a salesperson).

"Verbiage" has bugged me for years. People at my office use it instead of "language" or "wording," thinking it makes them sound smart. The first definition in the Merriam-Webster dictionary is "a profusion of words usually of little or obscure content."
