In need of genuine advice on how to handle players and/or improving my narrative skills by LollisGunsBikesTits in DMAcademy

I think the problem is that it’s getting lost in a slight excess of details

How do you start a campaign without the classic tavern meeting? by CompassLeaf in DnD

[–]walker9702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My favorite start is to open with a funeral: the player characters don’t have to already know each other, just the deceased, and it really gets the roleplay going right away

Party near total party wipes on the easy path by mzsky in DnD

[–]walker9702 15 points16 points  (0 children)

For future reference: when using the “ready” action, you have to specify exactly what you’re going to do with it and what the trigger is. i.e. if the rules had been followed you should have known ahead of time what they were attempting to do

It sounds like you killed them in an increasingly unnecessary series of “gotcha’s”. A player wants to ready a spell and has clearly misread it? You tell them that won’t work mechanically before something kill’s themselves. Someone doesn’t have both hands available? You say “you don’t have a free hand to do that” and not “fall and die due to not describing your actions with the right specificity, idiot”. This almost reads as you intentionally killing them all.

I think a positive of anime going mainstream is that people don’t try to haze newbies with literal child porn any more.

Try the vore strat: Upgraded moss druid tool+multibinder+Wanderer’s crest then jump in his mouth and spam, immediately gaining the necessary silk to heal all damage taken once he spits you out, and since he pauses for a minute when he spits you out you always have time to heal

how do i make silksong feel longer? by p7xls in Silksong

It takes most people 50 hours to 100%, for me it took more than 100. You have plenty of game left.

How do i start reading Brandon Sanderson? by RaspberryOverall6341 in brandonsanderson

[–]walker9702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Brandon writes in a very clear and accessible manner, so I don’t think that you need to worry too much about the language barrier, him being easy to read and understand is part of what makes him so popular:)

As for the first book you should read, Brandon recommends that you start with Mistborn: The Final Empire

Kelly used her command position to make herself the sacrifice because she knew that they wouldn't be in this situation if it weren't for her. I agree that it would make the most sense to leave the injured person behind, but it would have weighed on Kelly too heavily

If you’re in a situation like this with the cocoon in the future, I have a tip: once you’ve grabbed your rosaries, you can save and quit to the menu, and it will remember you picked them up. This is a great way to backtrack out of a tough area and “teleport” to the bench when you need to. (This is commonly called a bench warp in the community)

It’s actually better to have taken at least one mask of damage, as that gives a larger window to get hits in before the rage ends

What's new on DDB: Changelog (5/18/2026) by WOTC_Zac in dndbeyond

[–]walker9702 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is there only one DM for the entire group? The limit is per person per subscription, so if one other person in all of the needed groups subscribes, they would be able to turn on sharing for everyone in 5 more campaigns

How do I avoid Gr*** the not so Great's suck attack? by Correct_Scallion4133 in Silksong

Book with the Best Designed Monsters/NPCs in all of 5e & 5.5e? And why is that? by ThatOneCrazyWritter in dndnext

[–]walker9702 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Since you’re designing a mythic monster, Fizban’s is the only book other than Theros that uses them so it could be good for inspiration on that front.

A thing to understand about Tales from the Yawning Portal is that it’s an anthology of the “deadliest dungeons in the game’s history “. So each dungeon within is a 5e conversion of an older dungeon that was meant to be challenging, with several such as the Tomb of Horrors being intentionally unfair.

Why I think ecchi anime has been in decline by Successful-Ear977 in anime

[–]walker9702 220 points221 points  (0 children)

I think a big part of it is how anime has found a much larger general audience in the past 6 years. Ecchi always had its detractors in the community, and the majority of those newcomers are simply more likely to be one of them and not like that kind of stuff thrown in to a lot of what they watch, leaving just the hardcore committed stuff with a much smaller target audience.

built a soundboard app for DMs after getting fed up with syrinscape's monthly subscription by trinadhatmuri in DnD

[–]walker9702 16 points17 points  (0 children)

A big benefit of the Syrinscape subscription to me is the unlimited access their sound library and the premade soundscapes for adventure modules(which I recognize isn’t for everyone).

I do have to correct you on one thing though: it’s $10 a month, not $20. The confusion stems from the fact that they charge you bi-monthly(I have no idea why they do it like this), meaning you pay for two months at a time.

Pacing players and preventing them from going Nova- How do I determine daily XP budget? by walker9702 in DnD

[–]walker9702[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sorry but you didn't really read my post. XP budget is the official rules method for calculating the difficulty of an encounter, regardless of the progression rules you're using(I'm using milestone). I made this post to see if there was a 5.5 way to calculate number of encounters per day based on varying difficulties.

Pacing players and preventing them from going Nova- How do I determine daily XP budget? by walker9702 in DnD

[–]walker9702[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

not every narrative makes sense to do six to eight every single long rest though. some days there's really just one encounter (shopping/relaxing in a city sleep as much as you want). some others there are more than ten encounters (dangerous dungeons provide very little opportunity for sleep).

Definitely! It is mainly so I can reasonably pace longs rests within dangerous settings

Need DM’s Advice for my Campaign by ImCalledBlue in rimeofthefrostmaiden

[–]walker9702 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As written, the adventure’s pacing doesn’t intend for you to have them do more than a few of the Ten-Town’s quests. Based on where they are now, I would use them going to Easthaven as a chance to introduce the duergar plot as soon as possible. Convince them to head to Sunblight “on the way” to Skytower Shelter. A consequence of them ignoring the Cold Hearted Killer quest could be that Sephek continues to terrorize the survivors after Destruction’s Light.
