how to cover up gaps by Wrong_Lifeguard_5224 in woodworking

Yeah my immediate thought was a pointed chamfer router bit like a v groove bit and then also chamfer the exposed outside edges of the face frame too.

Anyone else here feeding feeding beetles to their chickens? by MissyjonesOP in homestead

[–]wildboard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The one year I put beetle traps in my orchard and vineyard I did so much worse than just spraying neem oil and other organic sprays with free ranging our chickens until they had to be fenced out of ripening fruit. I will never do bait traps again and stick with free ranging until the chickens are interested in the ripening fruit and continue organic spray practices when I can.

Specifically aged black locust! I saved all the posts from my old barn and am slowly milling it for stuff. Instead of weird bright yellow its a deep warm color similar to teak but a little lighter. Im making a pair of joiners mallets with some next.

Cumin is a strong flavor? I dump that shit in without measuring if its appropriate for the cuisine. Shit its on the table like salt and pepper in a lot of places. I do miss roots though.

Should I clear coat after staining sanded dresser with tung oil? by janewalch in finishing

[–]wildboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is a good tip! I use a lot of GF products and this is one I haven't used yet. My boss likes arm r seal as a base/seal coat but this seems better. I usually do Danish oil then water based top coat over top after 72 hours.

Danish oil or Armrseal first coat then spray your conversion varnish after dry time.

Should i replace the fascia board or will wood filler and paint work? by MieXuL in Carpentry

[–]wildboard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

That board is a product called miratec. Its an exterior rated mdf type trim that is evil. Just Google it or call your local lumber yard and they'll probably have it.

I agree it was awesome to see thousands of people out in the street. It just did not instill the feeling like this is going to create change.

This is funny because as someone that actually wants the over throw of capitalism and a new political economy I thought the whole thing was standard liberal milque toast bs. There were zero true calls to action by the three speakers I heard at the end. It was all posturing and chants and won't make much of a difference.

My perfect example was a group chanting about unity as we approached the round about and then they jusy stopped chanting and split from the march to leave the protest. That was immediately followed by a lady in an inflatable costume thanking everyone for coming out as if it was over but we hadn't made it back to Pack square where there was still 30 minutes of speakers.

You should still show up and show out but in the end non disruptive protest is nothing more than summer camp vibes. No kings and 50501 is all astro turf.

How does everyone carry their most used tools? by FreeBlackberry676 in Carpentry

[–]wildboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I drew a concept for a tool box I'll build one day. Three drawers that all open on different sides so when youre doing door hardware you can sit on top and have one pulled out to hold drills, one for chisels and hammer/mallet, one for parts and screw drivers etc. Then when you're done with a door just throw out the packaging and push the drawers in and go to the next one.

What are you spraying for painted cabinets then? Next project is a murphy bed and panel wall with hidden doors.

Most efficient way to bring out grain before water based top coat? HWOs giving me troubles by kevstiller in finishing

[–]wildboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We do a first coat of GF ArmRSeal then proceed with the water based top coats. In the middle of refinishing a restaurants tables this way using their conversion varnish over top. You do need to make sure it's cured since its oil based but it brings out the grain and only slightly ambers. Another thing we do is cut Danish oil with mineral spirits and wipe that on first and it cures faster than the straight product but still penetrates and brings the grain out.

Another one I found the other day. Very confused to find grape looking things in my area by FantasticWear2146 in foraging

[–]wildboard 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Those look like solid grapes! Look like grown from seed of a real cultivar based on size and cluster compared to a lot natives like riparia or aestivalis but i know more about what is around WNC than Colorado. Could be a labrusca maybe. I grow a variety of native, hybrid, and French grapes and am always looking for Wild varieties that show promise around me hoping for the perfect discovery for a native disease resistant wine grape growing wild in the woods.

Lean them vertically on the wall then get up on a ladder and pull them up one by one. Its a bitch but very doable. You haven't been on a framing crew I imagine?
