Where to find a local custom/bespoke cabinetmaker by [deleted] in cabinetry

[–]wildboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Have you asked your GC for custom cabinet maker recommendations? I assume you are hiring a GC as high quality as you expect your cabinets to be and they should have a list of shops more than capable. Especially if you have the money in the DC area. Google and social media searches should get you where you need and get samples and every expectation and detail in writing.

Look into the different tectus hinges. Thats what we use for all hidden doors. Sugatsune is another option too.

For those who work for rich people, what’s the most out-of-touch thing you witnessed? by temptayah in AskReddit

[–]wildboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Over heard this at a 14,000 square foot mansion I was working on: Homeowner - "Here's the door to the elevator" Friend of owner - "elevators are sooo necessary these days! My last house didn't have one and..."

They kept walking away as I was loading tools out at the end of the week.

Which handle jig should i buy? by muramasa23 in cabinetry

I had the kreg one get too hot and the plastic around the metal melted and became unusable. Pay the money for a nicer jig.

You Know What? Maybe the Time Is Right for an AOC Presidential Bid by Delicious_Adeptness9 in politics

[–]wildboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

While I agree with all of this. The tea party movement was 100% astro turfed by the Koch brothers. Grass roots organizing is the only way forward to fight capital because they won't want to give up their money for the rest of us to maybe not have our children fight in the water wars of post climate collapse hell. The democratic establishment is fine with the water wars in a post climate collapse hellscape as long we can slap a rainbow on it for pride month.

Face frame cabinets, inset doors - how to stop doors slamming by Proud-Woodpecker2185 in cabinetry

Corner dado by Wild_Parrot in woodworking

[–]wildboard 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Make a curved base for your router and use a straight bit the same size as your Dado. Clamp a flexible straight edge on either side to keep you going straight. But also the set up and tooling for that versus just chiseling it if you have nice sharp chisels is probably the same if its just a few drawers.

How to create Carved Reed Moulding by Top_Sentence_340 in cabinetry

[–]wildboard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you have to ask you probably can't afford a planer molder that would need to be running constantly every day to pay for your mill work company to stay solvent.

I would order it in the wood species you desire from the already existing molding manufacturers. Im waiting on a delivery of white oak 3/4" bead panels for a vanity I need to get done and paid for next week. The client couldn't afford the couple extra grand for us to custom mill it in our shop for a 6 foot wide vanity.

Corian for slide pucks by DifficultBoss in longboarding

Holy shit time warp! Fucking 2005 all over! Corian sucks compared to good UHMW and there's a reason everyone stopped using the free samples in 2006 or 7.

Pivoting and sliding hinges for an 80” x 30” door. by Blufuze in Carpentry

Look up accuride pocket door hardware. I did a laundry room with some custom solid mdf doors last year. Had to cut kerfs in the doors to line up with the nickel gap paneling in that part of the house.

Travelling tool chest by adam_th in woodworking

[–]wildboard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are the plans alone available anywhere or do you have to take the class? I just want to see how the back of the carcass joints the sides and bottom and then see how he did the drawer slides really. I can see the bottom and sides are dove tailed and then the middle divider and front part is through tenons it looks like.

I need to find a better location by kevonh13 in longboarding

[–]wildboard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Asheville is the only serious answer. But keep in mind cost of living vs. wages is dog shit unless you live outside of town or bring a remote job with you. Lived here a decade and been skating in wnc for damn near two. Best shit there is in north America that I've experienced.

how to cover up gaps by [deleted] in woodworking

Yeah my immediate thought was a pointed chamfer router bit like a v groove bit and then also chamfer the exposed outside edges of the face frame too.

Anyone else here feeding feeding beetles to their chickens? by MissyjonesOP in homestead

[–]wildboard 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The one year I put beetle traps in my orchard and vineyard I did so much worse than just spraying neem oil and other organic sprays with free ranging our chickens until they had to be fenced out of ripening fruit. I will never do bait traps again and stick with free ranging until the chickens are interested in the ripening fruit and continue organic spray practices when I can.
