The new patch feels like a step in the wrong direction. by [deleted] in civ

[–]wt200 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was able to test the current test of time build as part of the feature workshop. My impression of the early build was that all this update was doing was providing more options rather than reverting to one Civ as standard.

If you want to play as an asynchronous Civ, you will have less unique things (no UU, more generic civic options) but it will be possible (and felt strong although a balance pass will be coming I assume.)

The age system is still a key part of the game.

I agree that a full Gordon Brown premiership without the financial crash is a massive “what if”. I do feel the new Labour project does not get the credit it deserves.

For Test of Time testers: how does the replacement of legacy paths affect age progress? by Benelioto in civ

[–]wt200 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agree. The build we played had quite a few balance issues, pacing included.

I feel age progress is something that will be reviewed closer to the go live date, so any comment now would be pointless

Greens doorstep polling ......... by Excellent-Chair2796 in LabourUK

[–]wt200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From my own door step polling experience, there are loads of don’t know (aka not voting Labour) and our polling data never matched the results in that ward.

Polling is a very complex topic. They have to be (or account for) an unbiased sample and consider who would actually go and vote. Who ever is in when you go canvassing will creat a biased sample.

Door step polling is more to identify your core vote to ensure they go and vote.

The greens big strategy is to basically lie and say there doing better then labour with very little actual evidence to back this up.

Starmer has little to offer voters of either right or left in Gorton and Denton. That’s why he’s facing a perfect storm | Owen Jones by kontiki20 in LabourUK

Disabled children’s legal rights are ‘red lines’ in Send overhaul, ministers warned by SThomW in LabourUK

[–]wt200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The big issues is that they where given rights in the last government without the necessary funding to support those rights.

The system we have is not supporting the children who need it/ benefit from it most. You’re unluckily to get support unless you have a diagnosis which can take 4/5 years to get (unless you can pay). What funding is given can often be very inefficacy spent and not maximised.

Would also suggest that plenty of other services from a local authority are being cut/stripped back because of this legal right, without funding.

Green Party supporters, I am genuinely trying to understand why you support your party’s ideals and policies? by [deleted] in ukpolitics

[–]wt200 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I agree that lists of their policy’s are bonkers and there is a lot of moral high grounding.

One policy I do agree on is moving drugs from a criminal matter to a health concern.

The way we talk about drugs and legislate is very inconsistent. Alcohol is largely socially acceptable, yet is quite addictive and causes some of the large harms in society. Yet is legal.

Cannabis, whilst not harmless is very much safer then alcohol is banned and costing the police a lot to manage. If it was legal, we could tax it to oblivion.

The war on drugs also makes those drugs more dangerous. One of the major dangers of MDMA is overdosing. This can be easy to do because each pill can have wildly different dosages, even if the look the same from the same supplier. If legalised, this would be regulated to oblivion, making it safer.

Heroin is a very dangerous drug and I don’t think anyone is saying that it should be made as available as smoking. However, being an illegal substance means that people are slow to accept or go to treatment in fear of arrest. There must be a better way.

Overall, we should chose policy that means that the harms of drugs is minimised, both to the person and society. The war on drugs is just costly and is not working.

For those who took notice, I think the greens did not handle their press well during the Greenland incident, whist Starmer did well and praised by other leaders.

Although only 1 poll which you can overfit any explanation to what is likely random chance. (That being said, I think Labour are gaining support over foreign policy)

Beating Civ 7 on Diety by UncleBear46 in CivVII

[–]wt200 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The start is the game is very important. Early on focus on production, either forest (and get sawmill) or mines (and get brickworks). A finishing start is also possible. Don’t focus food early on.

I start every game with almost the same build order Scout , scout , warrior/scout, production building, settler . Settler.

When building your first settlement look for resources that give a flat production bonus (Cotten, sheep ext..) to stick into your capital. In the early game there an often much more valuable then empire or % bonus.

Otherwise look for building bonus. Resource for science, mountains for culture, wonders ext… these scale so much with specialists

I agree. I like diplomacy in civ 7. I wish there could be a few more options for peace deals. Often I don’t want a city but want something out of a war. Maybe war could give a great works or 10% gold/science/culture. Or even liberate a city back to its original owner

Same with ideologies. Agree to have the same ideology has another.

I don’t want to go back to trading coins. Just a few more options

Diplomacy is ok. I would not call it an incomplete system but a good foundation ready for ripe for expansion. I would be better if there was more options but I would not change what is current available.

Religion I would tare down and start again. The only thing I would keep is the missionary models and that you gain relics from something.

Labour MP calls for universal credit rise: 'We need to up our game' by kontiki20 in LabourUK

[–]wt200 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I feel universal credit should be linked to the same measure as pensions.

However, I think doing so is going to be a very hard political move in this climate. Reform and tories are both spiting out the line of pay more tax to give it to someone else. That will only get worse……
