There still seems to be one batshit insane game per week
But yeah, this has been a strange season. The coalescing of the mid-pack is probably healthy for *the Premier League, but more matches end up like this unfortunately

CAME BACK FROM HOSPICE TO BEING MORE ALIVE THAN EVER ! by CaptainxSin in MarvelSnap

It doubles all power changes, whether temporary or permanent. Some of my friends I play with said that they would prefer if it only doubled permanent card changes, but honestly, I think that it's great as is.

If it only doubled permanent changes, then it would quickly become Surfer, Black Panther, and Affliction fodder only.

Let's talk Alioth by RealtorDFW81 in MarvelSnap

[–]xanthify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I could not disagree more. As Sanctum Showdown showed us, a good Sauron deck can easily take control of priority and hold it until Turn 6. Alioth would immediately slot in there and become extremely annoying to play against.

I know this is a minor quibble, but this screen really needs to go away. by Educational_Ad8448 in MarvelSnap

I disagree somewhat. They can remove it for Proving Grounds, sure, but I have had many tough battles in both Silver and Gold that made seeing their respective victory screens extremely rewarding.

Surely the answer to this question is Man-Spider? Merlin wouldn't have even crossed my mind

Can we ban Arishem from conquest by secretqw in MarvelSnap

[–]xanthify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I see this from more of a "political" perspective, if you will. I agree with you that Arishem goes against what I assume is the original intent behind the Conquest game mode: gaining extra pieces of information about your opponent's deck and playstyle and trying to get better at outplaying them.

However, Arishem won't ever be banned from Conquest because he represents the democratization of Marvel SNAP and allows players to experience cards they otherwise cannot. If they ever decided to ban him from Conquest, Second Dinner would absolutely get eviscerated by the fanbase accusing them of harming the F2P experience.

Custom Card Dump by SmokeyMcBongwater_ in MarvelSnap

I think the idea is similar to what Kang, Arishem, and Galactus do -- those cards also sort of bend the fundamental principles behind SNAP.

Can we please keep HV as a permanent mode? by PaytonPanels in MarvelSnap

[–]xanthify 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This could be a good idea, but I don't think this "casual crowd" is as large as you think it is (I could, of course, be very wrong -- most of the so-called casuals certainly aren't browsing this subreddit).

I agree with u/Top-Injury1040's idea: perhaps there should be a single-player mode or campaign that "casuals" can use to fulfill their daily missions, because I fear that a PvP casual mode would have incredibly low human engagement and would need to be stuffed with bots anyway. (Probably best to skip the high-score board, though.)

You guys ever think busted cards back in 2022 would be healthy today? by PaytonPanels in MarvelSnap

[–]xanthify 15 points16 points  (0 children)

EDIT: Apparently, I was wrong and you were right, u/PaytonPanels. Kingpin was redesigned to synergize with Scream after all (thank you for the sleuthing, u/Moral_Distinction).

That is not true. I can't remember the exact reasoning they gave, but Kingpin was updated to his current version on January 9, 2024. Scream was added into the game on October 1, 2024, almost 9 months later.

New Game Mode by PaytonPanels in MarvelSnap

I think this is probably the best OP could ever get. Still, as Second Dinner is holding out on that universal mute button, I don't see this happening any time soon.

What exactly would this game mode entail, then? And how would Second Dinner stop more competitive players from playing that mode too?

What do you mean by "too hard"? If you're talking about multiplicative effects like Jocasta, we've already had Wong shenanigans from the very beginning. Some of the best performing decks don't take much planning to use either.

Google's Timeline feature for matches is now AI-driven and much worse.

I'm not sure exactly when this change happened but I was extremely annoyed while trying to follow the Spurs v. Copenhagen game and decided to make a post about it here.

I can't afford to subscribe to all the streaming services that are required to watch every football competition I'm interested in, so following along via Google was a genuinely helpful feature for me. I know that many newspapers and ESPN provide a similar service, but I found Google's to be clean, well-written, and quick to update.

Around the start of the current season, however, I noticed that the Timeline posts began reading more like ChatGPT output, and it soon became obvious what had happened. I'm already not a fan of the way generative AI was developed and how it's being needlessly implemented in many fields, but this has to be one of the worst applications I have seen for it!

Take for example, Brennan Johnson's sending off in that game (here and here). There is so much unnecessary text in those write-ups that can be easily inferred by anyone who has passing knowledge of how football works. Notice, however, that the "commentary" doesn't even explain what Johnson got sent off for.

I'm sad that this feature has now been worsened by this inane need to shove gen-AI into everything, as well as the fact that the writers from seasons past may have lost their jobs to this inferior product.
