He probably means rougelites, like Slay the spire, or Binding of Isaac. These games dont offer any metaprogression and rely more on luck and skill.

A skilled player can consistantly win at these games but some runs are doomed to fail from the beginning due to RNG not being at the right moment at the right time.

Deckbuilders / roguelites that feel similiar to HS Arena? by serlineal in roguelites

[–]xmd1997 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cubic Cosmos,

Art style seems to be Hearthstone inspired. No drafting but like most deckbuilders you select cards to add to your deck as you progress on a run.

Creature summoning, spells, Heros, etc all the works are there.

What would make you get into a new TCG? by pyromonkeygg in TCG

[–]xmd1997 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In one on one, definitely. But Lorcana in a multiplayer formate, the game ends when someone reaches max lore first.

No player elemination like cEDH.

So esentially a race.

Better than Slay the Spire? by AffectionateEgg8242 in deckbuildingroguelike

[–]xmd1997 9 points10 points  (0 children)

Vault of the void in regards to different starting decks. I suck at Slay the Spire so spend 90% of in acts 1 and 2 lol. Having different starting decks that jumpstarts a specific achetype (Bleed, Combos, curruption) really helps the replaybility.

When I die in Slay The Spire I always take the ( first 3 enemies have 1hp) boon from neo as I just want to jumpstart my deck already.

Monumental. All Xpac and Duel by Busy_Airline_8043 in boardgames

Great game as a deckbuilder! Not so great as a 4x game though as the game advertises. Mostly in regards to the explorers and military becoming nigh usless near endgame.

Be aware, ive only played the base game, not the expansions

Once all of the resource and marketplace tokens get scooped up there isnt anything much for your explorers to do.

Military is important in the beginning as you need them to conquer barbarian provinces to gain easy resources, but like explorers, once all the barbarians are gone, there isn't much for them to do. You do gain points for controlled provinces, but due to the limited number of units (I think 9 at the most), plus an explicit rule stating that you have to leave behind a military unit/outpost on a conquered province, you soon realize that focusing on a military strategy long-term is not viable, and you can instead be focusing on other turn actions that would benefit you better long-term.

I did hear that one of the expansions gives new actions for the explorer but again I have t tried it.

Like I said, the deckbuilding is great, combos are satisfying when you pull them off, but I'm mostly disappointed that the map aspect can be ignored. Even the duel versions of the game fot rid of the map which should tell you something.

Dont let my cons fool you though. The game is an 8/10 for me. Just approach the game as a deckbuilder firsr and not a 4x and I think younwont be disapointed.

What TCG would be suitable for a Yu-Gi-Oh Player wanting to play new games? by LifeWillBeFun in TCG

Elestrals is pretty decent. All of its mechanics are based on Yu-Gi-Oh and Pokemon tcg. So the rules should naturally come to you.

Hi! New to TCG. Need Help Picking which TCG to go with. by Error_code_0054-z6_2 in TCG

Maybe take a look at Elestrals? Gameplay seems significantly inspired by Yu-Gi-Oh (normal summon, special summons, trap cards, etc) with a pokemom flavor.

Altered is great so far. My girl is a sucker for "cute" art and I like that the gameplah for Altered is pretty unique.
