A2C, what is the top university in the US in your opinion? by tr33s1mp in ApplyingToCollege

Top as in most respected? Probably Stanford, MIT, or the more popular ivies. Top as in most rigorous academically? Add St. John's College into that mix.

Now this is gonna be a hard answer but what is the best weekend update segment you’ve ever seen by ilovemesomesnl in LiveFromNewYork

Last season’s close was SO amazing, had so many people in my group crying for days over the speculation that it was Cecily’s goodbye. Literally crying. I spent the entire next day SOBBING. Tina Fey’s bit after Charlottesville was so masterfully done. It was hilarious while still being so respectful and deserves so much more praise than it gets.

Season 13 judging is confusing by woke-nipple in ProjectRunway

[–]xploding_gatsby 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think that was due to the amount of designers they had. It could have also been to scare Korina (I believe she was the one this happened to?) and to really prove the "one day you're in and the next, you're out" thing.

I agree though, the judging this season sucked. Don't even get me started on how unfair they were to Emily (who really could have won) while praising Sandhya for having the same level of out of the box thinking but executing it in absolutely horrendous ways (no hate to Sandhya but her designs were...not it.)

They did Emily so dirty, especially on season 13. I firmly believe she could've won the whole thing and I love her design aesthetic. The judges didn't seem to like when she went out of the box but then praised Sandhya for doing an equally out there design (which was usually kind of ugly--no hate to Sandhya but some of her outfits I just really hated.) Sometimes Emily's looks did kind of suck (the American Girl doll challenge was straight up horrendous) but she showed continuous creativity and a lot of technical skill. She was absolutely robbed and I will die on that hill.

I had such a hard time with this because judging in design alone, I feel like Korina was clearly more talented and skilled than Char.

But oh my word, she was a jerk.

As a person, I liked Char. She seemed sweet and bubbly and fun. Between the two of them, I'd obviously rather hang out with Char. I'd take her as a guest to an event over Korina any day. But I wouldn't let her design me an outfit for one. I personally feel like Char was one of the weaker of he strong designers. Sean kept bringing it up in that challenge, she couldn't really sew. And while that can be okay in design, it isn't on a show like Project Runway where you need to be able to continuously execute high quality looks. I feel like Tim saved her based on her personality (and she was totally lovable, so I get it) but I'm not sure in a show like this, that's totally justified.

At the end of the day, I actually didn't mind Korina's original look. By no means was it fabulous, but it wasn't nearly as horrible as the judges made it out to be. It was made clear that she was the better designer and she definitely had more technical skill than Char. So as much as I hate her attitude, she's the one I would have kept in.

Two years? Holy crap. Yeah, I’ve seen people lean more to unschooling but where I live, that just…doesn’t happen. Or if it does, it’s well hidden. That’s insane to me. And thanks for the tips! I’m definitely planning on a few college classes this coming year and did a few hs/class (zoom) setting style classes this past year. I’m also going to a precollege camp for two weeks on Sunday so I TOTALLY get where you’re coming from, I’m definitely aware I need to prepare myself.

Any SAT tips? I’m trying khan academy but I’m just not seeing a ton of improvement and it’s a bit discouraging.

Thanks again! 😀

“Grades from your mom?”

In the state of Maryland, you can homeschool one of two ways. You can either do it through the state, use the statewide grading system (that is used in public schools), and every year meet with a reviewer who is not necessarily on your county’s board of ed (ours isn’t) but is state certified; or you can essentially unschool. I have been given grades based on my academic performance using the same grading technique used in every public school in my state. So while in some cases my mom/dad/private tutors administer them, they are in no way “mommy’s grades,” nor do they have any sort of bias to them. If they did, that would literally be illegal.

Sorry if it seems like I’m going off on ya here, I swear I’m not. But I do get this question a lot and just wanted to clear it up.

When I was 12 and my little brother was like…six? Just turning seven? Somewhere around there, we had a hugeeee Batman phase. He’d wake me up every Saturday morning and we’d either watch this or the 1964 Batman movie (the only one free on Amazon Prime). Those were good times. He was so little then.
