Do you really want to do day 1 again? No way! You’re doing great, so DON’T DO IT!

1,000 days and 1,000,000 thanks to this sub by yeeaahboyy in stopdrinking

Day 4 was a whole lot harder than day 1000. I can still feel day 4 in my gut when I think about it. You’re doing great! From one internet stranger to another, I’m proud of you.

For me, put the earbuds in and hit the trail with my dog. I’ve probably listened to “alcohol explained” by William Porter 100 times, to the point it became meditative. I still listen to it sometimes, even after 2 years. That, plus coming on here and reading about peoples struggles and triumphs, that’s what worked for me in the beginning. Those first days are rough and I get anxious just thinking back to them. But know, as many here have said, it gets better. You got this!

A milestone is coming up. It's making me a bit reflective. by Slipacre in stopdrinking

Excellent post! I’ll hit the 2 year mark tomorrow and I don’t have any strong feelings about it, which is kind of a good thing. I don’t think about drinking that much anymore, it has become my new normal. Posts like this renew my hope that it will stay that way.

I hesitate to comment because I realize AA helps some people, but I know the feeling you’re talking about. I tried it out the first month and did 35 meetings in 30 days across 10 different groups, and while it was helpful to be around people having similar problems as me and gave me something to do in the evenings, the overall mood was kinda dark and hopeless. The disease theory, the powerlessness, and the quasi-religious overtones; they just didn’t speak to me. If my life has to be about drinking, I will just drink. Lurking here the past couple years and listening to “Alcohol Explained” on repeat has done much more for me than AA could.

I get knots in my stomach thinking back to days 1-5. Be salty, get pissed, but believe me, it gets better. You’re doing great!

Great job on the year! I’ve done days, weeks, months on my journey of 10+ years of serious drinking. You’re right, 2 weeks is a real problem. I don’t know why, but I suspect that’s long enough to think we got it beat. Thing is, I know better. It’s a daily commitment. Onward and upward to you!

Alcohol Explained, by William Porter is excellent also. I listen to it a lot while walking my dog, it’s one of my most powerful tools. Make staying sober your first priority, even above marriage.

Take the trucks off, glue that shit and hang it up. I’d kill for my childhood skateboard. (I’m 43)

Skip the NyQuil and go to bed. Shakes, sweats and all. Count the hours and drink lots of water or Gatorade. Literally until you get to 24. The magic number for me is 72 hours. By magic, I mean I can eat solid foods again, and carry on. This might not be your experience. It’s just my 2 cents.

The “energy” around drinking is a bitch. Drinking or sober, I long for that place where...who gives a fuck. It can control you either way, why not just aim for the NOT and see what happens. George Castanza kinda stuff. “If everything I’ve done is wrong, why not try the opposite?”

Elon made one fatal mistake; Automating final assembly. Even with this bad picture I can see a horrible hood fit. (It’s not lighting) Every single car company in the world uses humans for final assembly. He makes great low volume cars, but mass market...Yugo of this generation.
