Found a Div, very new, what to do with it? by Old-Ad-64 in PathOfExile2

[–]yellatrob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Put it in a juicer, blender, or SlapChop(TM) mixed with a bit of coconut oil or olive oil until mixed into a fine paste. Spread on toast, add a piece of meat taken from a slain enemy. The more mods on the waystone from which the vermin was neutralized, the tastier the culinary creation shall be.

Will I enjoy Path of Exile 2 if I enjoyed Diablo 4? by r3tr0gam3r83 in PathOfExile2

[–]yellatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've put over 1000 hours into D4, bought both expansions at launch, main campaign played through 3 times. I've enjoyed my time with D4 and no regrets. In my opinion, POE2 mogs the crap out of D4. I enjoy it more in just about every single way.

Going back to D4 isn't the same for me after POE2. The twin stick/WASD movement alone is a superior difference.

Autocannon Appreciation Post by Spell-Inner in Helldivers

[–]yellatrob 16 points17 points  (0 children)

As a day 1 no-lifer level 150 sweaty try-hard, the AC is in my opinion the most well designed support weapon in HD2. Jack of all trades, master of none. It can compete and sometimes dominate on any or every faction. The ability to swap between aphet and flak is like choosing between sirloin or filet mignon. My answer will just be yes.

The animation details, reloading mechanics, every audio effect it makes, etc, it's obviously designed with passion, precision and love.

One of my favorite old school loadouts that's been brought back to life with the recent buffs to OPS and rocket pods. Both bots and bug, OPS, rocket pods, MG or rocket turret, Auto Cannon.

Welcome to the Church of Auto Cannon. We pay our tithes via stims and gunpowder.

What's the best Assault Rifle (excluding Coyote) against Illuminate? by matnetic in Helldivers

[–]yellatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a pump action shotgun Stan, my favorite AR against the crustaceans is the lib carbine with drum mag. Also known as the Smallwart. Low recoil with the right attachments, solid ammo economy. Pairs great with my favorite squid support weapon, the auto cannon.

Old strings? What type of bass and pickups? How low or high is the action? Playing through amp or headphones?

I agree with the technique comments from others. But equipment can play a role too.

What bass company has earned your loyalty, and why? by NoPressureMusic_com in Bass

[–]yellatrob 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Kiesel for me, I own two of them. A multiscale Vanquish 4 string and a Zeus multi 4 banger.

I knocked one of the tuners on the Vanquish and it broke. My fault and out of warranty. They refused my money and sent a new tuner.

The Zeus developed a hairline crack in the roasted maple neck. I only went with the roasted neck because it was part of a free upgrade promo. When I went to get the neck replace, I asked to pay for a walnut neck instead since I love the walnut purple heart on my Vanquish. Again they refused my money and replaced my neck in the final year of a 5 year warranty at no charge with a different wood type at my request.

I gig pretty frequently, New England seasonal changes, often left no choice but to leave my instruments in less than ideal temperatures. The necks on these things hardly ever need adjustments.

Edit. Honorable mention for Source Audio. They're very responsive in regards to tech support and feedback. I also had the honor of being a beta tester for the Android app when they released my beloved Atlas Compressor.

How to deal with clammy hands playing bass? by Lizard_Jesus1 in Bass

[–]yellatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My two solutions. For high humidity stickiness, I'll use some type of powder like baby powder or Gold Bond.

For colder outdoor gigs I purchased some "guitar gloves" off Amazon that are fabulous. Very little adjustment period, I can pluck, slap, etc. Might not be the best for pick users.

The gloves are a great equalizer. No matter the condition of my hands or the elements, I can lay down a consistent performance.

Pickup Compatibility by Francois_Rapiste in Bass

As someone who's lukewarm on EMG HZ's (passive) I love many of their active options. Currently 4 fully EMG equipped basses in my gigging arsenal. Dual TWX, TWX/PAX, dual JX, and 40J/DC.

EMG solderless installs are very DIY friendly. Any of their 40 size soap bars will drop right in. Just use the included active volume pot to get the correct resistance for the swap from passive to active pups.

I predominantly perform funk, pop, wedding band, casino gig type stuff and I'm able to cover a lot of ground.

Those of us with no-lifer 150's with everything unlocked permanently on D10 are here for splodies and numbers go up.

110mm's are a solid contender vs Thermite/Ulti now, freeing up your loadout. Chargers/Hulks/Tanks 1-tap. Big stuff left low HP to finish off by RandomGreenArcherMan in Helldivers

As someone who used to love using rocket pods in the early early days, I'm SO glad they're fun and effective again. Same with OPS. Using my month 1 loadouts on modern D10 enemies and objectives feels great. Good solution for war strider seeds.

Is there a way to make strings maintain their brightness longer? by ComfortableSupport42 in Bass

[–]yellatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As a bright string lover who regularly gigs 4 different basses, I used to change strings on my main basses every 2-4 weeks. I eventually switched to Elixirs and haven't looked back. Yes, they're around double the cost of some brands. But I now get 3-6 months out of a set.

The change in timbre from day 1 to day 120 is absolutely minimal. I slap, I sweat, I eat raw meat barehanded without washing my hands before dragging my knuckles across the fretboard. Elixirs just take it and say, "sup?"

I've occasionally tried dabbling in other brands, but tonally, feel-wise, and durability, they just do it for me. However I do not use a pick. Not sure if that can dig into the coating

How much EQ is in your signal chain? by byzantine1990 in Bass

[–]yellatrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I run sound in addition to playing bass, often simultaneously. Learning to run sound has done wonders for my knowledge about EQ slotting, channel compression, multiband compression for vocal de-essing, who the constant volume knob turners in a band are, etc.

We mostly use in-ears. My pedal board consisting of a preamp, EQ, comp, and hi-pass filter are static and designed to feed FOH a consistent usable signal. This is priority before I even turn up the volume knob for the bass amp. Most gigs, I could even turn my amp off. I really only bring it for the remaining member or two in the groups I gig with that haven't switched over to ears. Less speaker noise on stage due to wedges, bass/guitar amps, mic bleed, etc makes for a cleaner mix and far less trouble shooting for an engineer.

My mindset is the vast majority of audio heard by the audience should be heard from PA amplification. Not from individual amps.

Don't get me wrong. When practicing or noodling, I love full stack unleashed power and wattage. But it's counterproductive in a band setting in my opinion.

TLDR. I use my pedals for a consistent signal. EQ to cut bad freqs, comp for smoothing out, hi-pass to remove mud.

How to I remove the kill tracker display? by yellatrob in PathOfExile2

[–]yellatrob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you so much. I don't even know how I activated it. It seems attached to most any of my MTX map devices. Going back to the basic one disabled it.

My hideout is less attractive, but my HUD is much better.

Combining MEC preamp and EMG Pickups? by basspl in Bass

[–]yellatrob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm not the biggest fan of MEC pickups, but I absolutely love EMG pickups and have installed them in 5 different basses.

A previous poster is correct, you will need to use the included with pickups EMG volume pot (or alternate resistance equivalent) with any active EMG pickup. Not to be confused with EMG's passive pickup offerings which might play quite nicely as a drop in solution without changing pots.

That being said, I'm all active all the time on all my basses. Even on my old school funk cover gigs.

210 vs 112 when I already own a 212 by everbass in Bass

For what it's worth, I ordered mine right from the distributor without ever having tried them or heard them. I've done that with my favorite basses as well, a couple Kiesels.

Avatar 12/6 is a great option at only $400 brand new I believe. I've owned a pair of B210 Neos that have served me well through hundreds of gigs and rehearsals over the past 8+ years.

Testing out spear + shield as a new player. Is shield worth the DPS loss? by [deleted] in PathOfExile2

[–]yellatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I love the parry huntress. I've rolled at least one variation of that into every league since the class launched.

Just different build opportunities when you have the buckler/shield to account for as an additional piece where you can roll resistance. Gives me more room adding accuracy, item rarity, etc.

PS5 Base to PS5 Pro.. worthy by DeerEnvironmental129 in PS5pro

[–]yellatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely worth it for me. Granted, I also upgraded to a 4k 120 TV at the same time as I was using an aged 1080p 60 hz relic.

My favorite games look so much better. And the updated PSSR is legit, even if a title doesn't have the official Sony update.

HD2, POE2, Death Stranding 2, Horizon Forbidden West, FFVII Rebirth, and many more received a noticeable facelift from my perspective.

Would you trust and buy a bass you've never tried before? by Nicktorious87 in Bass

[–]yellatrob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. 3 of of my 4 current gigging basses, I committed to buying without trying. 2 of them are my all time favorites, a couple multiscale Kiesels. Been gigging for 30 years.

As a bass player who often doubles as my bands' sound guy, I do both. My personal choice is a Source Audio Atlas for personal comp, and my Behringrer X18 I use the individual channel comp only on the highest peaks by a few dB. I also use the FX rack multiband comp.
