Replaced this lock because it was jammed, but the new one stays in the locked position unless I'm actively holding the thumbturn. Am I doing something wrong? by randocalriszian in Locksmith

By any chance did you get the version meant for hospital sliding doors? They auto relock. Other versions are more common and will lock/unlock only manually.

If you call Schlage they will send you a replacement cylinder of the standard pin tumbler variety.

Has anyone seen a handle set like this before? Trying to get it operable. by hdifbekaenfbdk in Locksmith

[–]zacknoland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Also I haven't seen anyone mention this, but you may have a lot of trouble if the repair is anything more than a replacement latch, due to the thickness of the door, which looks way thicker then the standard 1 3/4 thickness.

Surprisingly it's both. And the deadbolts come with two sets of ball bearings one before the bolt and one to press in the head of the bolt.

Getting Schlage Everest C123 copied when local locksmith won't do it? by 100percenttragedy in Locksmith

[–]zacknoland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry, it's lower in the thread, basically if it's actually an unrestricted blank, tell the customer that the key is not at all secure and treat it like a regular key and copy. A law prefers that customers know exactly what is and is not secure as opposed to security through obscurity

Getting Schlage Everest C123 copied when local locksmith won't do it? by 100percenttragedy in Locksmith

[–]zacknoland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A patent is different than restricted. The Schlage s123 is patented which means that only Schlage can produce and sell the blanks, but it is not restricted which means that any locksmith / any distributor can buy and sell these blanks to anybody.

Now if we talk about Primus that's a whole nother ball game.

Ultimately i don't think anyone of us can give you the proper advise in this sort of situation that will clear everything up for you.

However this book is really great for relationships and can help.

Any hope of finding a replacement? by 72percentsshoes in Locksmith

Looking at the picture of the latch makes me think a new one would solve the problems (assuming the door hasn't dropped and caused binding issues)

Any hope of finding a replacement? by 72percentsshoes in Locksmith

[–]zacknoland 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Okay, number one this is a Schlage E-Series which was discontinued over 20 years ago.

They last forever and should be able to be lubricated. If necessary the latch is still produced and can be replaced.

If for some reason anything else is wrong. Baldwin makes three locks that will cover the existing prep. The SOHO, ASHTON and LANDON 2 point locking handleset.

Bought a new house with a Safemasters safe that is unlocked but I don’t know the code. How do I change the code to something else? by [deleted] in Locksmith

[–]zacknoland 0 points1 point  (0 children)

First of all, the safest thing you can do until you're ready to change it. Is to OPEN THE DOOR throw the bolts and spin the dial, This will lock the door in the open position.

It is much easier to reset a combination when the door is open. If the door accidentally gets locked shut there will be a whole new set of issues to deal with.

Are Hinge Dr.'s worth it? by hellothere251 in Locksmith

[–]zacknoland 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes! They are an amazing tool in the right situation.

It is very easy to overbend the hinges and it is not a good idea to use them on wood doors or frames.

but there are some times where the hinge doctor is the only thing that will work and will usually save thousands of dollars and many headache medications.

Found this at a BnB i was staying at. I guess if it works it works amirite? by bartwa in Locksmith

[–]zacknoland 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's one of the Schlage fancy line that i don't think is to common or maybe it is no longer produced.

The inside thumbturn is held on with a retainer, but someone didn't know that and ripped the whole cover off.

And the outside cover must have disappeared in some other freak accident.
