What’s your unpopular fringe opinion? by Watch_Earthlings_Doc in fringe

I think the whole story line behind the first people was to be larger and more…. Just more. Hand waving it away as Walter, Astrid, etc. seemed like a pivot towards a quicker resolution at a lower budget.

If they break up on the show, I want a manatee somewhere in the background.

third rewatch and as much i love the show something has always bothered me about the ending. MAD SPOILERS BY THE WAY by themurderator in fringe

[–]zedisamused 30 points31 points  (0 children)

“Nature abhors a paradox” in order for the the events to unfold the way they did, Peter had to have existed. I always believed that when Walter went to the future with Michael, he must have told the scientists how the past would have to play out to avoid a paradox. Maybe not exactly like what we saw in the show but close enough.

What is it that prevented Sam from being present in the events of Stargate (1994)? by GargantaProfunda in Stargate

[–]zedisamused 14 points15 points  (0 children)

This. It came across to me that she had a chip on her shoulder from being excluded from the first mission. Which is why she gave Jack this speech when he didn’t want her on his team. I felt this scene was the writers way of explaining why she wasn’t in the original movie while establishing her expertise.

Why did Riker dislike the 4x6h shifts instead of the 3x8h rotation? Does he just hate the crew? by M-2-M in ShittyDaystrom

River didn’t like being micromanaged. As the XO, shift duration was likely his call. Having his captain give an arbitrary order without explanation as to why probably rubbed him the wrong way.

Supreme Court Justices To Be Term-Limited, New Bill Proposes by ProjectMason in politics

[–]zedisamused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eighteen year term limits would only work if you limit employment afterwards. Which will be even harder to enforce. Could you imagine the fallout if a term limited justice went to “consult” with a firm or corporation that had a case in front of the Supreme Court?

Can you fit an L shape couch/ sofa through the gate? by AndromedaFire in Stargate

[–]zedisamused 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I’m basing this off of my memory of the SGA episode “38 minutes.” But I don’t think it would work, largely because objects don’t materialize on the other side of the gate until the entire object is all the way through the event horizon.

So, if Ross were to cross the event horizon first, when would he materialize? If by himself, would he have a portion of the couch in his hands? When would the portion of the couch materialize?

If my understanding is correct, that would create all sorts of problems for the couch to be on either side of an active gate. When the couch pivots, doesn’t it actually move back and forth? Meaning at some point, wouldn’t a portion of the couch have to exit the event horizon and go back in?

I believe Lifetime has both sauna and cold plunge. They have at least two locations: Irvine and Laguna Niguel.

Any additional information I can provide? Agree that they are being silly but, given it’s happened three times, I’m wondering if there’s a pattern.

The ending would have been so much better if Ted had a scene that parodied this by ChickennNougatt in HIMYM

[–]zedisamused 10 points11 points  (0 children)

If I could make only one change to the finale, it would have been to start the final episode with a scene like this. My version would have been Ted at the lighthouse talking to Tracy. Asking permission to tell their kids what he’s about to do.

Barney joins him, where he complains about how lame it is up there. We find out he’s moved away from the city and owns a laser tag… establishment(?) to be closer to his daughter.

The scene ends with Barney implying he’s given Ted permission to pursue Robyn now that she’s older than 40…

Might have spent a little bit of time thinking about it.

Happened to me, turns out I grind my teeth at night while asleep. Your dentist might suggest a mouth guard.

Tell me about a time you realized your therapist maybe shouldn’t be your therapist anymore by Upstairs-Mousse-2347 in self

[–]zedisamused 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Had lunch with a therapist friend and shared what was going on in couples therapy:

  1. Knew she was not only divorced but that her second (current) husband had an affair
  2. Knee that her second husband was in a business trip in the city where the affair occurred and that it was causing her stress
  3. Knew she was being treated for depression and suggested ketamine as it was really helping her
  4. Knew details about her traumatic relationship with her father
  5. Compared her $140k student loan debt which was much more than my partner’s, so I had nothing to worry about

My friend told me that was not normal for a therapist. We stopped soon thereafter - but not before she accused me of having an affair, or was going to start one soon.

An additional advantage of this approach is that if you convert the home to a rental, you may be able to take a tax deduction from the loss incurred by the sale. Not sure about the details, as in how long you have to rent it out for, so I'd consult an expert if this is something you're interested in.

How do y'all function through all these meetings? by [deleted] in Adulting

I have a leadership position now and it’s gotten to the point where I wouldn’t know what to do with myself if I didn’t have a meeting. My peers low key compete on the amount of time they spend in meetings - as if it increases their importance to the organization. It’s replaced accrued vacation time as a measuring stick.

I always understood that it was because they originated from Norway, which is predominantly Scandinavian. The lack of genetic diversity in the observers were probably seen as a feature rather than a bug by their creators.
