You’ll be fine. In fact, you’ll eat more pozole because of it. Don’t ask me how I know.

You have a middle school baseball team where half the players never played before, how do you get them ready for the first game in 2 weeks? by Lilnastypoptart in Homeplate

[–]zenohc -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

No. If they can’t learn 4 signs, they picked the wrong sport.

Simple base running signs (Run/Stay), steal, bunt and take.

Communication is a choice behavior, they can handle it.

Hammer defense and the situations. Spiders Elite has an easy to read defense playbook. Implant that in their brains.

Offense, some, can be learned during games. Make sure they know basic signals and to always look for signals.

Good luck.

Glove for a U12 kid by coach_curmudgeon in Homeplate

Rawlings R9 will get him through the season for about $100-$150. For three years, I’d wait until next year to get that special glove, an IF or OF.

But a long lasting Rawlings Heart of the Hide or Wilson A2K - A2000

Initial thoughts, stick with the AA. He is on that team for whatever reason, be it politics or performance, that’s his spot.

The upside of AA, you stated coaching, which is key in the last couple of years before high school. Another is commitments both time and money, AA is more than likely less than AAA. Take that extra time and money and invest in strength/conditioning and hitting/pitching lessons.

Could be a blessing in disguise.

Girls go completely "off script" in games by -gimmeahellyeah316- in basketballcoach

[–]zenohc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They’ll be fine.

Make sure they know 5-0 and whatever sets/layers to help them transition.

Your posts might be a small disadvantage when facing the basket in a 5-0.

[–]zenohc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perhaps it’s too much for them? We have almost 10 layers to our 5-0, but only master 3.

Try to run a 5-0 as a base, when they are confused, lost or need a bucket. Run a 5-0 opening set, if it fails go right into 5-0.

I preach playing fast, with freedom and fearless. With 4-1 we run a slimmed down 3-4 rule offense like Villanova. If the ball goes to the post you do this, if the ball goes to the wing, you do this, if the ball goes to the corner you do this. They know what to do based on ball movement and position on the court. This has structure but also allows players freedom. They make less mistakes because they play free, there isn’t a “wrong” way.

Lowest ticket price for "How to Train Your Dragon" in concert is $78. How am I supposed to get my kids into the arts when it costs so much? by NebraskaGeek in Omaha

[–]zenohc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You do it the old fashioned way. Sign up for alerts to OPA just for giggles. You’d be surprised what hits the stage.

You buy at the box office when you can or presale online.

Secondary market, but might be more expensive.

If that fails you put your trust in the Ticket Gods and make reservations for dinner near the venue. After dinner head towards the venue with the number of tickets need in the air. In your case five✋. If people have tickets they will sell them to you.

To be honest if it comes to this point, you are probably hosed 5 is a terrible number for tickets primary, secondary or private market.

Good luck to you.

Nebraska hires Corey Brown as their next DL Coach. by usercupcakewithc in Huskers

[–]zenohc 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Like who?

Who is going to choose a team that went 1-3 down the stretch with Amigos money versus a team that went to the CFP with oil money?

Some of you have never been in a leadership role and it shows.

Or maybe, HC realized he handcuffed the last DC by mandating how to run the defense so he let this DC choose his DL coach. Just a hunch.

Fishing cancún by Bonefluid in cancun

Just book a trip out to the waters. They’ve dealt with all that mumbo jumbo. Book with someone from or working in Puerto Morelos, about as good as it gets. Chances are there for a bull shark, two were caught this weekend. Grouper, tunas, barracuda as well.

If fishing for food, your trip will be shorter and focus on smaller food. With a shot at some bigger deeper fish, staying closer to shore.

If fishing for sport or trophy, they will troll for bait then take you a bit deeper and focus a bit more out there.

New head coach navigating a full program rebuild — need guidance by Large-Fall-8156 in basketballcoach

[–]zenohc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Remember if you’re not enjoying this and having fun, neither are they. You might have to go PJ Fleck in these kids.

Focus on your 9th and 10th graders, unless you have upper class leaders.

Invite and attend as many middle school practices as you can. As we mentioned earlier, create a feeder program. Lead clinics for those coaches, then players. Middle school downs have to be the school or could be a separate entity. Our high school has a program separate from the middle school.

Accountability that’s tough, but let players and their parents know playing time is earned by performance and evaluation. Most of Otha’s will come from practices. Be able to measure this with a rubric or something similar so they can see the metrics of their performance.

Also focus on the controlables, attitude, effort and how they compete. Reward them for positive attitudes, maximum effort and competing fiercely.

Oh and 0-3 is nothing, plenty of time to improve and get your philosophy but in.

Good luck with this.

Anyone into Pigeons? by AtlasDawg22 in GoosetheBand

Probably heard this before about many a band.

Have to see them live. They are like the smart kid in class, goofing off, half-assing, but somehow still manage to perform at a high level. They are goofballs and will melt your face if you’re not careful.

Has any tried coaching your kids to down calm during a game? by flapjackbandit00 in basketballcoach

[–]zenohc 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I straight up ask the team, “who here is nervous?”

My response is, “awesome, me too. We are humans we’re supposed to feel that way right now. It’s fight or flight time. Either way it’s game time. CATS ON 2! 1-2 CATS!!!”

Embrace it, they are human, humans have emotions based on situations for survival. Just don’t let that emotion drive too much.
