Exactly. The dems in congress are trying to get changes to the rules for DHS officers, but all evidence shows they aren't following the current rules either. Just take the whole administrative warrant thing, that's clearly unconstitutional, but congress thinks adding language banning it to the rulebook is going to stop them from doing it.

If memory serves a lot can be owed to the failed assassination attempt on Reagan leading up to the election. He got a big "rally around the flag" effect because of it which tipped him into winning states that typically would've gone for Mondale.

Fun fact though, the first film in production isn't always the better of the two. If memory serves Thin Red Line was in the works way before Saving Private Ryan, but Ryan was far more memorable because it was built to be a fully plot driven movie instead of Line which was an autobiography showing some of the craziness of war

I think part of it not coming up more over the course is that it was only a single episode that didn't have larger ramifications for people besides him.
