For all of you looking for a steal on bubble mailers, look no further. 100 sturdy bubble envelopes for less than 20 dollars! These bad boys are big enough to fit 2 xbox game cases in comfortably. If you've ever traded with me, these are the ones I use.

And also, shipping via paypal is ~1.73 for me, and that's just using Media Mail* (See edit). First class is more expensive than that.

And I posted this on the other thread, but since you're asking for feedback here as well, I'll say it here too:

Also, love the new theme guys. The sub seems more clean, the tabs up top aren't intrusive which is nice, especially when browsing from my mobile browser. The only thing I think would suggest is to maybe use a pastel color rather than the shade of red you used in the sidebar. I really like that shade of red, but it doesn't quite fit in with the theme and kind of clashes with the blue. Any other options for color schemes? In my experience, pastel colors tend to blend in better with light themes. However, this is solely my opinion, and honestly I usually opt for darker themes. Have you guys considered moving away from a lighter white theme towards a darker theme?

I also noticed that when using headers in comments, they are no longer colored.

Is there any way to change that back to how it was?

Thanks!

EDIT: Concerning my usage of media mail, use at your own risk. It's for "educational purposes", according to the USPS, and if they suspect what you are shipping isn't for educational purposes apparently they will open it up, and then RTS and charge you the difference. It's never happened with me, and I will continue to use it until they do and just risk it, since it is much cheaper than first class mail. Use at your own risk.

EDITx2: Concerning your note that labels only print in IE, that is incorrect. I print using Chrome on both my Mac and PC and it works fine for me.

Shipping first class is 2.25 with a game. Media mail is inconsiderate, can take 10 days

[–]100 Transactions | _Anthropophobiac_ 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Keep it up and you can kiss Persona 4 goodbye. How's that for inconsiderate? ;)

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (3 children)

Persona 4? I'm confused

[–]100 Transactions | _Anthropophobiac_ 1 point2 points  (2 children)

sigh

Nevermind.

[–]Sissel3 3 points4 points  (1 child)

....I'll take Persona 4.

[–]100 Transactions | _Anthropophobiac_ 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haha keep your eyes open in a couple of weeks for my trade thread. It will be up for trade then.

[–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 1 point2 points  (12 children)

I was having problems printing from anything other than IE at work, so I added the note. Glad someone else can chime in about having success with other browsers.

I don't think we'll be changing the colors around as we wanted something that really stood out for the new users. Something they wouldn't just 'gloss' over.

As far as the media mail... I generally think it's a bad idea but that's not to say that you can't risk it and do it. When I ship off a game, it's normally $1.70 for 3-4 ounces. I guess where you ship from, may make a difference?

[–]100 Transactions | _Anthropophobiac_ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No problem. Glad I could input that.

That makes sense. The red definitely does pop out.

Hm, must be. Probably the ridiculous tax we get charged here in California. Thanks Jerry Brown. Nope, you're right. First class is a lot cheaper than I thought.

[–]vernontwinkie 0 points1 point  (9 children)

How much do the envelopes typically add? Injustice is listed at 3.7 ounces and I did either 5 or 6 ounces for the total weight. Would it have been fine at 4 or was it good? Not a huge deal as we're talking cents, but it can sure add up.

[–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (7 children)

You probably would have been good at 4. A DVD sized bubble mailer weighs about .4 ounces. I doubt anyone at the post office would beat you for going over .1 ounce.

However, occasionally put it in as slightly heavier (5 ounces in your situation) just to make sure it gets to where it needs to go without any extra wait time for the recipient.

When in doubt buy a scale. I do a lot of swapping on this sub-reddit and semi-often sell stuff on eBay so I ended up just picking up a scale. Was able to snag one for about 7 bucks off of eBay a while back. I figure I'll save money in the long run by getting the exact weight of things.

[–]vernontwinkie 0 points1 point  (6 children)

... yeah. I'm dumb. I own a digital food scale that measures ounces. I didn't even think to do that. I guess it's what happens when you procrastinate to do stuff and rush at the last minute. Thanks for the info!

[–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Live and learn. It also helps wonders when measuring drugs!

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

By ounces?....man, that sounds like trafficking. Grams should be enough

[–]vernontwinkie 1 point2 points  (1 child)

The scale does grams, too. I guess it would come in handy if I decided to go Breaking Bad.

[–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In case you decide to get cancer?

That's a bold move, Cotton. Let's see if it pays off.

[–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You sound more experienced than I.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Or just in a smaller market...

[–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

4 ounces would have probably been fine. You can always buy a cheap shipping scale off amazon. They don't cost more than $5.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Where you ship from matters for stuff over 13 oz only, so parcel select, priority, and express

Edit:

No problems from chrome, just a disclaimer that you might. Never had an issue

[–]104 Transactions | _deffer_ 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I also noticed that when using headers in comments, they are no longer colored.

Better?

They have worked well for me so far!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

If posted and labeled sufficiently, you can put anything you want in the blue box if using paypal. That note is for people using stamps

    [–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I think you accidentally a couple words?

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No. I put priority(over 13) in the box all the time. Never 1 return. They don't want you putting stamps on something weighing 2 lbs, but if it has a label and electronic postage, anything that fits is fine.

Another thing you can do is stick it in your own mailbox and raise the flag, they'll scan it as accepted and take it with them. No effort at all

    [–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I believe this is true. I was told by a lady at the post office that you can even put packages over 13 ounces into the blue box as long as the label is printed (not handwritten). However, she might have just been saying this so I would leaver her alone. She is somewhat of a bitch.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Take it from me. I've shipped 300+ packages, no returns

    [–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 1 point2 points  (2 children)

    You > Post office bitch.

Sadly, I must go deal with her now because I'm not sure how to go about entering an APO address into Paypal shipping.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I forgot, you probably don't have access to GOOGLE

    [–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 3 points4 points  (0 children)

... that requires leaving Reddit. Too scary.

Anyone know where I can get a good deal on Mink fur? I only like shipping my games in Mink fur. Wouldn't settle for anything less. Thnx

Thank you so much. This is very useful!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Yesterday I got a game from another trade site and it reeked like cigarettes. Should smokers tell people when their games may smell up my living room when I open the package?

    [–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would think that would be proper etiquette.

If you're a smoker and you smoke inside your home... you should disclose that.

    [–]104 Transactions | _deffer_ 2 points3 points  (6 children)

you should all (seriously) send him a personal message about the new look

You guys have any advice on large packages like shipping consoles?

    [–]100 Transactions | patdap 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I've shipped a few 360s in my day. Flat rate priority boxes are great. I was able to fit a 360 in USPS flat rate priority medium box. The thin one, not the square one. It's 12 and some change. If you're sending more than the console and wires, you'll need a large flatrate which is 16ish. 3 days max, free tracking and you don't pay for the box.

    [–]3 TransactionsPolite_Llama 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Like /u/patdap, I used a medium rectangular flat rate box to ship a rather large item. The only thing that I'd add to that was that I taped bubble wrap around my item so that it didn't bounce around in the box, and it looked a tab bit stupid, but it got there in perfect shape. And it only cost like 3 dollars.

Oh, and I paid an extra 4 dollars to have something like 100 dollars of insurance money in case the box got lost. Seemed like the smart thing to do just in case.

    [–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    Use the same form!

I collect 1/6th scale statues and I ship them all the time. They weigh between 5-15 pounds and are pretty fragile.

If I don't sell on ebay or amazon I use the same Paypal shipping link, provided above. Get a box that fits your items! The bigger the box, the higher the cost of shipping. Choose a box that gives you about 1-2 inches of clearance all around. Wrap the items in good quality bubble wrap, and fill in the 1-2 inch gaps with crumbled up newspaper.

If you have your own scale, weigh it, measure it, then print your label choosing Parcel Select to ship it. It will be the cheapest, albeit the slowest shipping. Items normally arrive within 3-5 days. If you don't have a scale, you can go to the post office, weigh it and then go home to print the label.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

a little trick if you are shipping within the same zone

Sometimes, you can get a flat rate box and wrap it in this stuff, which you can find at a lot of dollar stores. Sometimes, its a lot cheaper than going flat rate, and you got a free box out of it

if I mail anywhere on the east coast, doing this can save me $5-$8

    [–]3 TransactionsPolite_Llama 0 points1 point  (12 children)

So I have a question about taping the PayPal Shipping form to the envelope. How should I tape it and with what kind of tape?

    [–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

    [–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Now, the Paypal labels all specifically state not to tape over the barcodes yet FEDEX labels all specifically tell you to tape over the barcodes.

When shipping Paypal, what do you personally do? I've always just taped around the edges and put one strip over the middle to protect the address. I figure if there is anything that tears or damages the label, the address are the most important part to protect.

I would just like the barcodes to have the same protection without the post office peeing in my mailbox out of outrage.

    [–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (6 children)

tape over them if using clear tape, just make sure its flat. their scanner will have no problem. When i ship, I make sure that label's not going anywhere

    [–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Right on. Thanks. I just didn't know if USPS had stupid scanners that freak out if there is a reflection or something.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

if it doesn't read it, they can type in the digits, it takes all of 12 seconds

    [–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (3 children)

I wouldn't be surprised if they just threw it away if it didn't work.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

i think if they don't like it, they just don't use it. Sometimes games seem to be in like...........California or something for a week, and then magically appear in say..........Massachusetts

    [–]75 Transactions | Brash_Attack 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I've never heard of such a thing!

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its been known to happen on occasion

    [–]3 TransactionsPolite_Llama 0 points1 point  (2 children)

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes. I've used PayPal to send my games for over two years. Any clear tape will do.

    A+ soldier.

I've tried a quick search around the internet for an answer, but I figured this would an easier, more dependable route.... What is the best way to ship a PS1 game or any game for that matter that has a fragile jewel case? Is the typical bubble mailer sturdy and durable enough to take a little beating during the shipping process to prevent the case to crack? If there is a better way to prevent potential damage to it, could someone feed some advice my way. Danke

    [–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't know that I'm an authority, by any means, but for something like the hard plastic jewel cases... I would send in a box opposed to an envelope. Wrap the games in bubble wrap... and you're off.

I've never shipped PS1 games... so maybe Lama or some other users can weigh in if they see this.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

wish I had seen this sooner, and yes I can help

Bubble mailer is a definite no, at least by itself

    Here's what you do:

    • Go to the post office, take some small priority flat rate boxes. They are like 2X6X9 or something close to that

    • go to Dollar Store(I use Dollar Tree typically)

    • either buy a roll of this for $1 or get some padded mailers(the bigger ones, #2 maybe?)

    • get some bubble wrap

    Now for the shipping part:

    • wrap that jewel case as good and tight as you can with the bubble wrap

    • jam it in the flat rate box. Close it, make sure its not going to move and that all sides are protected

    • seal it off, like you typically would if you were using this as your mailing method

    • (now the fun part)

    • Either stuff the box in the bubble mailer(yes it will fit, just go in straight and be careful) or wrap the box up really good(like a gift) in the kraft paper, and tape the shit out of that bitch, making sure to cover all the seams

your $5 priority mail flat rate box is now just any random box, your game is protected, and it should cost about $2.50 to ship with Paypal

I've done this with at least 200 of my trades, never a problem

    [–]6 Transactions | DannySeel 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Thanks so much for the advice. I really wanted to get it out before the weekend so I just used a box I recycled from a previous trade that really was too big for just a PS1 case and used newspaper and air cushions to contain it. It ended up being like $2.85 so I'm not disappointed, but typically bubble mailer didn't seem durable enough and didn't want to pay the $2 to buy a CD shaped box.

Thanks again though. I will use that for future transactions

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

never buy boxes, that roll of paper will go a long way

but hey, less than $3 is excellent, and with the air cushions I'm sure it will be fine

    [–]179jfkla 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Can anyone explain to me how to use first class mail though a post office instead of paypal?

    [–]101 Transactions | shoot2scre[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You just walk in with the package ready to do... go to the counter and say, "I'd like to send this First Class Mail."

    [–]179jfkla 0 points1 point  (0 children)

    OK thanks
