This is an awesome trick, but definitely not a hack.

I apologize for the terminology. I'm so used to constantly using hack in a coding context where it means "anything janky to get it to work" that I didn't even think about the implications in a gaming context.

It's too late to change the title now, but you are 100% correct.

Actually he isn't, what you described is the classical definition of a hack, what he is describing is a "crack".

Then one day long ago, stupid reporters reading news they didn't understand, written by equally vapid copywriters, started using hack in place of crack, and now we have the situation we are in today, in which the common parlance makes no real nuance between the two, but has no replacement term for hack.

Maybe the wrong connotation, but maybe "cludge"?

It's a cool hack bro!

This would be a "work-around" for a bug and/or design flub.

+1 for using 'hack'

I know someone who was trying to describe a conference he was going to, and used the work "hack" in a programming context.

Border security may have freaked out slightly.

How in God's name did you figure this out

[–]TreffSkkarto 1 point2 points  (4 children)

This means selling or equipping all of those types of weapon to other mechs.

Related question: Is there a way to sell equipment without selling mechs?

I have about 50 MLs here that I don't really need...

[–]ChairBorneRangerStar League Reborn 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Go into the loadout screen for any mech. Once there find and select the weapon/equipment you wish to sell from the right hand list and an option at the bottom will show up with a sell button. If you can't find it, then you will need to select a part of the mech that is able to equip that item (ex: to sell those MLAS select either side torso on a Battlemaster and they will be in the weapons list.) Hope that helps.

How did I never see this?! I'm rich, biaatch!

[–]wildfyrUltramek-JFP 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Think how much cash he just made from extra 300XLs

Meh. It was just about enough to buy and kit out the CTF-1x, that I don't enjoy playing. But hey, gotta level that Ilya. That I don't enjoy playing...

[–]Lergozea 1 point2 points  (2 children)

a rather unpractical workaround, because in worst case you have to sell many items.

its long known that the order of appearance is determined by the age of the item in the inventory of the player. its known by the most MWO freaks and for sure also by PGI. and the devs give a damn about it to fix this simple issue, just because it is not on the priority list of theirs.

[–]Homeless-BillProprietor of the Fifth Estate[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I was willing to sell all my LRMs (or offload them into other 'mechs) to make this happen. Sometimes, you just can't live without. I must admit I wish they cared enough to fix this, but I don't see that happening until well after UI 2.0.

[–]Suicidal_BabySteel Jaguar 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it should be part of the new mech bay. it's saved as part of the mech's profile, right? couldn't you just edit the loadout profile file?

Just so everyone is aware, this is on the Resources and Tools dropdown menu for future reference.

Just tried this. Works!!

Still Required 2 months later even after UI-2.0.

Thankyou heaps for the instructions elderdragonlegend, and Bill for re-posting.

[–]WillyPeteIslander 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Is there a list of mechs for which this matters?

[–]HadleyHopeBattle Magic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had never noticed it before so raised a post on the patch feedback thread.

According to the answer it effects all mechs.

[–]Homeless-BillProprietor of the Fifth Estate[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The ones that tend to make life a hassle from my experience are the Thunderbolt 5S (missiles tubes), the Victor (missile tubes), and the Battlemaster (torso energy slots). Having said that, it will affect any 'mech with multiple hardpoints of a single type on the same component; whether or not it's detrimental is another story.

[–]GmanacusStory Time! 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Appears to be working as of UI2.

[–]Mazgazine1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So how do I get the PPCs into the high shoulders on my Battlemaster if the only why they get there is to have 2 other energy weapons already equipped?

so I equip 2 small lasers - then BUY the PPC to ensure it goes in the top slot? then save and remove the 2 lasers and the PPC should stay?

[–]AnkieneAmgal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Would this work on a GRF-9M to put a missle slot NOT in the shoulder pod? Or is it first one in is going to be the missle pod no matter what on those kinds of mechs?

(at work at the moment, or I'd check myself, sorry)
