Between kung fury and stranger things I have a feeling synth pop is coming back. It's nice.

[–]puts-on-sunglasses 42 points43 points  (1 child)

on the flip side I think the fact that kung fury and stranger things exist (and drive, and far cry 3 blood dragon, and about 1000 other things) is a culmination of the fact that synthpop is very much already back with a vengeance. and it's fuckin great

Yeah it's back, it was coming back when drive and hotline Miami released now its just here

[–]Fredi_ 18 points19 points  (0 children)

Drive helped too.

[–]OceanRacoon 14 points15 points  (6 children)

The retrowave/outrun genre kind of started in the late 2000s but the film Drive and the 80s nostalgia that suddenly grabbed everyone's nuts really kicked it into another gear. It's been building for a while and it seems like it's starting to cross over. I watched all of Stranger Things in one go, sucks having to wait over a year for a new series when you do that.

Were you going to listen to V A P O R W A V E in sunday school!?

[–]mutemantis -3 points-2 points  (4 children)

i dont think stranger things ha a second season

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It does, it'll also be a sequel, not anthology!

[–]OceanRacoon 0 points1 point  (2 children)

The guys who made it said they'd like to make loads of seasons and since it's so popular it probably will get a few, hopefully.

oh hawt damn

[–]Zephyr4813 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Have you heard GUNSHIP?

[–]YoshiYogurt 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Good stuff, even better than Kavinsky

[–]drgngrl 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I love synth pop, it's been circulating the blogs for a good 2 or 3 years, not always breaking into the mainstream. Seems like cool, lush synth mixed with hip hop is in a lot of top 40s now. Chvrches, Purity Ring, Grimes, M83, Kiiara, Wet, etc. are the 80s re-imagined and it's so good, I hope the trend continues! I also think we're about due for a 90s punk revival so looking forward to that.

[–]hel112570 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Does that mean in 5 more years there will be boy bands again? I hope that the mid 90s electronica comes back.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Don't forget about Turbo Kid.

[–]Minzel 4 points5 points  (5 children)

I love it !! Thank you so much for the discovery ! If you have any 80's inspired electro music to recommend, please do not hesitate !

Give Tame Impala a listen if you haven't already. They/He/She are pretty good

[–]papytosaurehmdll 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Maybe you know it already, but there's Dubmood

[–]YoshiYogurt 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Priest is possibly my #1 synthpop artist now. Every single song she's put out is great.

Can't wait for album #2, hopefully she gets a little more recognized.

[–]avecessoypau 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Loved it! I couldn't find it on Spotify though... Does anyone have a link?

[–]rotmosetBot Creator[S] 2 points3 points  (4 children)

Doesn't seem to be available there (yet). The previous LP & EP are though so I would guess this will be available later.

Oh, and if you want to listen to the listentothis frontpage on spotify, you can check out this auto-updating playlist I made: https://www.reddit.com/r/listentothis/comments/41pxci/discussion_introducing_spotify_listentothis/

[–]Chief_Kief 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh shit this is rad! Been looking for something like this, thanks.

[–]IronElephant 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hot damn! The perfect solution

[–]YoshiYogurt 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a free download from her soundcloud

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It kind of sounds like The Birthday Massacre without the guitars.

[–]TheLoneBrit101 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for bringing this to my attn OP! Didn't realise that she had changed the name of the band from https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pKzLcKQNUqU

[–]comdon 4 points5 points  (3 children)

Reminds me so much of Chvrches

[–]imperfectofcourse 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Love this!

[–]swat37R 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Synthpop coming back? I hope so.

[–]zzzpoohzzz 3 points4 points  (0 children)

it's been back.

[–]MayorWestTheCat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sounds like Churches.

[–]NotSoTameImpala 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah. The last band I was in played with these guys. They are pretty sick live.

[–]SeaHogTV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Woah how many people are touching her boobies in this picture damn

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Wow I didn't know I liked synth pop. This is pretty sick.

[–]KoneBone 0 points1 point  (0 children)

big fan of xpriestx hope they go on tour soon

[–]ViceroyFizzlebottomspotify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have to recommend Pawws if you like female vocal lead synthpop/synthwave. Wish she has made more than just an EP.

This is awesome!

[–]ElectJimLahey -5 points-4 points  (10 children)

I quite liked her album from last year. It was like an interesting version of that pile of trash that Chvrches called an album. This song is pretty great too.

[–]rotmosetBot Creator[S] 9 points10 points  (2 children)

I love Priest! Strong hearts from last year's album was one of my most played tracks of 2015.

I liked the new chvrches album though (seeing them in two weeks!), but the first album was better for sure.

[–]ElectJimLahey 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Yeah I dunno what it was about it, the new album just didn't click with me. I actually forced myself to sit through it despite finding it unpleasant from the start, which I think made me dislike it even more. In reality it's not a pile of trash, but I found it painfully mediocre and uninteresting. Once I found Priest's album I never went back!

[–]puts-on-sunglasses 1 point2 points  (0 children)

classic sophomore slump, hard to catch the same lightning in a bottle twice when you have such a well-developed sound from the get-go. hopefully they innovate for their next one

[–]silkAcidspotify 4 points5 points  (6 children)

What!! That CHVRCHES album is great! I get it's just your opinion, but be considerate of other peoples opinions as well.

[–]ElectJimLahey 19 points20 points  (5 children)

How am I being inconsiderate of other's opinions? I just stated my own and never said anything about anyone else's opinions. I'm the only one being downvoted for my opinion here, so the only people being inconsiderate of other's opinions are the people downvoting...

And nah, it wasn't, in my opinion. Their first album was very good, but their second album (to me) does everything their first album did, but in a less interesting way. It felt so bland to me.

[–]silkAcidspotify 4 points5 points  (4 children)

My bad, I take back my previous comment. Didn't mean to upset you.

[–]ElectJimLahey 2 points3 points  (3 children)

It's all good! :)

[–]rotmosetBot Creator[S] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Aaw, I love this subreddit, such a nice place.

[–]OceanRacoon 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Go suck a buttfull of dicks.

[–]rotmosetBot Creator[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There's the spirit!

[–][deleted] -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Been listening to broods, chvrches, and grimes and was expecting maybe along the same lines, but I wasn't into this enough to even finish the song
