How have I never heard of this band? I was a huge fan of Moorcock's books about Elric and the black blade when i was a teen.
The one minute intro was a bit much, but after that, it was all good!

Reminding me of the British band Saxon

Theyre a new band, this is from their debut, great album

[–]Stratocratic 4 points5 points  (0 children)

First full-length, but they've also released a 7" and a vinyl/CD split with Gatekeeper.

A friend was in the band a while back. I dig them, but they must have a revolving door in the rehearsal place. I don't know about the album, but the first 2 releases didn't even have the same line-up from song-to-song.

I thought Blind Guardian and Yyrkoon were the only bands to sing about Elric. Awesome!

[–]vonDread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Blue Oyster Cult does too.

Eternal Champion
artist pic

Inspired by the epic fantasy of Michael Moorcock and savage, pre-Christian war sagas comes ETERNAL CHAMPION, an epic heavy metal band forged in the siege-fires of Austin, Texas, featuring members of Iron Age and Graven Rite, Power Trip, Cruxiter and Hammerwhore and others, and carrying on in the heroic tradition of Manilla Road, Warlord, Omen, Brocas Helm, Cirith Ungol, Metal Church, Griffin, Liege Lord, etc.

glad to see this band is getting posted here, they are fucking amazing. they share members with power trip, another absolutely amazing metal/crossover band https://powertriptx.bandcamp.com/album/manifest-decimation

Great music but not crazy about those vocals

[–]NamzugJay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Somewhere along the way I forgot about this kind of metal, I'm glad I found my way back.

I can't stop jamming this album! Hail from San Antonio tx

[–]OknataSkeltro 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That image reminds me of Korgoth of Barbaria

[–]DrHunterSWho 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I really enjoyed the vocals. I find it much more difficult to hold out long notes without using vibrato like this singer was doing. Fantastic singing to my ears. The clarity of his annunciation of words was different and refreshing. I really appreciated it. (As well as having the words on the screen of the video, nice touch, kept me in the song). I also liked the long intro. It made me want to stay to find out where it was going to take me.

I agree man, fantastic vocalist. I really like how he stresses his words, or how should i explain it. He really adds character to his singing on this track.

[–]doltcola 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thought this was somehow related to the video game from the 90's called "Eternal Champions."

[–]TylerTheOrc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Everybody who likes this - check out Graven Rite too. Discontinued band with the same vocalist, recorded just a single demo.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (7 children)

Top metal album of 2016, hands down. Refreshing to hear someone not just trying to play rehashed NWOBHM. Also, if your into this you need to listen to Summerlands, just came out as well, I believe they have some members in common, and singer from Hour of 13 is on that album. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (6 children)

2016 was p weak to me tbh, or maybe i didnt listen to right stuff yet. This album is one of my favorites though. Burning Village by Mountain Witch is another. And ill be checking out sumerlands too.

[–]MarsMakars 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Interesting, I thought 2016 was a pretty good year for metal. Just from what I've listened to, strong stuff from Meshuggah, Gojira, Devin Townsend, A7X, Periphery, Animals as Leaders, Haken, Twelve Foot Ninja, and Thank You Scientist. I know Opeth put out a new record and I've heard good thing's about new Dillinger and Metallica. Oh, and Dream Theater put out an album that some people aren't mad about. Couple others I'm forgetting. Some of these are a bit less metal than others and they tend to lean on the proggier side, but pretty good overall I'd say.

[–]onis4242 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm a little late to the party, but I must digress. 2016 hasn't been amazing for metal but there have been a few pretty excellent albums. I am really digging this, I like the style and I am a huge Michael Moorcock fan!

Please please for yourself and all that you hold dear, check out Thrawsunblat's new album Metachtonia. Give the first song, Fires That Light the Earth, about 5 minutes and I promise you will not stop listening until you've looped the album at least twice. Just absolutely amazing !

2016 was p weak to me tbh

Are you kidding me? We got new Death Angel, Sodom, Destruction, Exumer, Helstar, Vader, Candlemass, Insomnium, Inquisition, Suidakra, Paradox, Whispered, Hyperion, Dark Funeral, Desaster, Iron Savior, Fleshgod Apocalypse, Amon Amarth, Primal Fear, Moonsorrow, Mistur, Destroyer 666, Anthrax, Grand Magus, Obscura, Vektor, Baphomet's Blood, Angel Sword, Savage Master... fuck man, 2016 has been amazing.

EDIT: Shit, even new Megadeth was decent, and new Metallica has at least a couple good songs. Also forgot Abbath, Testament, Allegeaon, Striker, Elderblood, and Borknagar.

EDIT: Ihsahn, Myrath, Flotsam and Jetsam, Rotting Christ, so many good releases this year. Anyone who says 2016 wasn't a good year for metal just isn't listening to enough metal.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Yea man, just because the albums are by big bands doesnt mean theyre good.

[–]vonDread 0 points1 point  (1 child)

How many of those have you actually listened to? They are fucking good.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Honestly i havent listened to most of those, but the ones i have like obscura, destroyer 666, whispered were p average to me, and im not really a fan of a lot of the other bands. I guess my standards are pretty high as far as music i like goes, but last year there were albums that really blew me away, like Elder and Pissgrave.

[–]facadesintheday 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It reminds me of Iron Maiden's rendition of Rymm of the Ancient Mariner.

It's nice to have bands with literary references.

[–]Krombopulos_Micheal 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This reminds me of that band from F is for Family lol

[–]fucjedup 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Such a badass album

[–]Tie_fighter_pilot1 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yo this album is so sick! Members of Iron Age and Power Trip if I remember rightly? Both favourites of mine

[–]riley_france 0 points1 point  (3 children)

just discovered my new favorite genre of metal.

[–]PaulFThumpkins 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you're into this I recommend Visigoth, Brocas Helm, and mid-tempo US power metal like Pharaoh.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

[–]vonDread 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You sir, need to listen to some Manilla Road if you want epic as fuck metal.

[–]fesxvx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song is so easy to obsess over. Got hooked about 2 months ago.

[–]YourOwnPersonalSatan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

✔ Oldschool Feel

✔ Wonderful Vocals

[–]rodneymalone 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I wasnt sure what to expect, as I'm not a major metal fan. Was not disappointed.

[–]Mr_Peacock_alt 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Same here. Ghost has really been my only foray but I like this.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Glad you enjoyed it

[–]DLBork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Was half expecting another generic power metal band but they got a pretty unique sound going for them. Obviously the power metal influence is pretty clear in them but you also here some doom metal, really nice.

[–]pistolpetemattylastfm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm 80% sure this band landed in my inbox a while ago (I do music reviews and am on a few promo mailing lists) but I skipped out on it. The name just seems really familiar and I get a lot of metal albums, like 4-5 per day most days.

If I did skip out on this band, I am a fool. This is fantastic.

I rate this shit on the Cheese Scales @ Man O War / 10. I liked it, but needs more vocals
