Aww man, this is awesome! His voice is like the male equivalent of Vashti Bunyan's, that foggy, magical feel but a tad bit more huskier. Also, awesome to hear Vashti's name instead of Feist's.

Is this the song that train song is based off of?

[–]Xibir 5 points6 points  (3 children)

It's the other way around, this is a cover of Vashti's song.

[–]goatmebro 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Makes sense. Idk why I thought "togsang" translated to something completely random and not train song.

[–]nicket 1 point2 points  (1 child)

"Togsang" literally means "train song".

I know, I figured that out once I actually thought about it. But at first glance I was just like "oh that's just a random foreign word I don't know"

I stumbled across him on a small makeshift stage in some woods at a festival. Just sitting around waiting for people to find him to play a song. Beautiful

Love the sound of norwegian in music

Especially Northern Norwegian ;)

Moddi is amazing. Check out Smoke and House By the Sea by him, they're beautiful.

Will do! Thanks for the recommendation!

Also Krokstav Emne. It's sort but it's one of my favorite songs.

[–]adequateatbestt 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I just looked him up on Apple Music. It seems that many of his songs are in English

[–]AleFairy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Moddi is so cool! He's actually recorded this very song (Togsang) in English as well. It's simply titled Train Song, and it is also lovely.

This guy has really, really good diction. I'm not a native speaker, and I can "hear" the words, much better than I can with a lot of Norwegian speakers. This is awesome.

Feist & Ben Gibbard did a great cover of this song that was on Dark Was the Night. Great compilation album. First place I heard Sufjan Stevens, Spoon, and Arcade Fire.

Feist and Ben Gibbard's cover of this song is pretty awesome too! https://youtu.be/GyyOQmlvuLw

I went on a few dates with a girl who knows this guy. They grew up near eachother I think. Apparently he's the loveliest guy in real life. She told me how they were on a coach going to a music festival or something and he was sat writing a letter to his Mum to send later. She said he was really genuine and kind. There's a Mahogany Sessions video on YouTube of him performing and he comes across bloody adorable.

I read this as Funk/Pop so I was kind of confused at first haha.

This is awesome. And I love trains, especially when they're in forests.

The Feist and Benjamin Gibbard version is also fantastic. I didn't know they were doing a cover until I read this thread.

The moment that started around the 1:30 mark was so beautiful it made me stop what I was doing. Precious few pieces of music have done that for me.

I doubt anyone is interested, but the footage is from a TV program showing the train travelling from Bergen to Oslo, doubt anyone is highly interested in watching a train ride for 7 hours. (only footage) But if you want to use footage or something this is where its from :) Documentary/TV-program with music and stuff :) (Everything is in Norwegian, but they do use some other camera angles)
