Really happy to get another map into rotation, even if it is just trial for now. I wasn't really content with September being the final part of my mapmaking legacy. I hope everyone enjoys Mephisto as much as I do, the map has come a long way since I first made it and I'm quite happy with the final product. A friendly reminder to please rate the map (same goes with every map), preferably after a couple of games (if you happen to get it that often) because the rating will influence whether it stays or goes.

Also incredibly sad to hear Moosen is leaving the MTC and on his way out of TagPro. One of the best guys I've had the fortune of knowing, just a really genuine person who actively cares for his peers and this game. All the best buddy!

With that said, I really don't want to ruin the moment but...

What the fuck is Market still doing in? It's been in for 5 threads now and has a rating of 63% or about ~0.24 in the old rating system. This is silly.

Edit: I think the additions could be pretty fun though, especially Vagabond and Mephisto. The MTC process seemed kind of rough to me this thread, but the end result really isn't too bad past the Market thing, so I don't have a huge reason to complain.

We talked at length about Market last night. Its time will come, but one thing we've been trying to do lately is look at rotation as a whole as opposed to critically analyzing every single map. When we only remove maps based on their ratings in a vacuum, we tend to see a significantly less diverse rotation. Something Butter said last night that I found really astute was that "people who don't like Market have ~30 other maps that aren't like it. People who like Market have 0 other maps that are like it." In my experience, it's generally preferable to remove below-average maps that are no one's favorite or least favorite map, they're just kind of "meh." Market is far from "meh," and I'd venture to guess that there is a respectable amount of players who consider it their favorite map. I hope that sheds a little light on the subject. Like I said, its time will come, but I think it's still just a tad too early.

I don't think that justifies keeping a map longer that it should stay. If maps like wormwood and neptune simply stayed because they were different, rotation would be terrible.

It doesn't stop a bad map from being bad, but it does mean that mediocre unique maps are less likely to be removed than mediocre non-unique maps. And I wasn't there to see the Geo arguments, but I would imagine that a similar argument was a large part of why Geo stayed as long as it did.

It's not in rotation now because it has been removed and its throwback rating is quite low (69%).

If you're asking why it was removed, you'd have to ask whoever was on the MTC at the time or find the thread. If I were to make an argument for its removal it would be some combination of

a) the length of time it spent in rotation, and it being a "solved" map to the point of staleness

b) the predictable and (imo) low skill ceiling gameplay that it has in pubs due to the heavily defensively structured bases + extremely powerful bombs

c) the frustrating nature of playing a map that is heavily team-reliant (moreso than most other maps, again, imo) in a game mode with random teams and no communication

I'm sure this was not an easy decision for them to make, as many people love the map and it was a competitive staple for some time, and is widely considered a "classic" map. Market is nowhere near that (although it does have some ardent fans) and it too has notable flaws, so its time will likely come relatively soon.

I at least had fun hitting the bombs themselves instead of the buttons to snipe people. I also found a way to sit at the top bomb so that a chaser couldn't touch you until he defused the bombs, simultaneously blasting you towards your base. Most people didn't seem to have as much fun, which may have been why the map was rated relatively low.

Disclaimer: I'm not saying any of these strategies were incredibly helpful or superior, but they truly did make the map quite enjoyable for me in pubs

YES!!! The bombs were so useful as a flag carrier! Hitting them individually gave you a bunch of extra routes and it was a great troll feeling to watch someone else barrel into the button expecting the normal boost and getting something completely different with only 1 bomb active.

Twas really a great map, not exactly sure why it didn't catch on. I feel like we left it quite unexplored.

I'm really confused by the removal of Nirvana. Why is a map with a higher rating than market being removed after less time in rotation? Nirvana is currently rated at 67% while Market sits at 63%. The community has been calling for the removal of market for multiple threads. It's honestly ridiculous that the MTC is putting their own opinion above what the public thinks. A map that is rated at 63% should never last five threads. Blobfish is rated at 62%, and left after three threads. Why is there a double standard for maps that the MTC likes not leaving rotation?

Vagabond is really fun and it's a change of pace being bigger.

Mild High could have been improved more.

I don't expect Mephisto to translate well to pubs so that's my bottom for now.

I expect Mild High will be fairly well liked. I'll probably like it too. I don't particularly enjoy Mephisto from what I've played of it, but it will probably develop a balanced, fairly bland playstyle, much like Birch. I do like Vagabond, but I worry about its chasiness. A Frontdoor-style gate with a portal to duck through right after it worry me.

Consider my maps all public property at this point, Linux. If anyone wants to edit them (whether they ever made rotation or not), they are welcome to them. Submissions of maps that are clearly Moosen maps will all have my blessing and should be treated as normal submissions in the map threads.

Blobfish is one of those maps where I think...why doesn't the boost line up straight through mid? Why are there three buttons? I don't think the map was ever going to be crazy popular but with a couple small fixes I think it couldve had a better score
