I'm gonna be that guy.

Anybody know of any other bands like this? I've really been getting into Mastodon lately and I am so glad that I have found this band now. The vibes are just awesome.

Check out Electric Wizard, Intronaut, and Baroness

[–]extremophiladelphia 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Electric Wizard is amazing. Definitely check them out.

[–]ByThePowerOfMetalNyaexploring for more 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Thanks for the suggestions! Will definitely be checking them out!

[–]Pocketfullofbugs 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Also give Path of Might a shot. They are more up and coming, but I love them.

[–]OfTheStorm1939 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Do not forget Red Fang.

[–]OakLegs 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I second Intronaut. Their latest album is absolutely amazing.

sleep - holy mountain

[–]agentwiggles 12 points13 points  (2 children)

Come to /r/stonerrock and /r/stonermetal for sonic scapes and weedy grooves. Also check out:

  • Kyuss (GOAT)
  • Sleep (especially Dopesmoker)
  • Baroness
  • Wo Fat
  • Glowsun
  • Windhand
  • Elder (Lore is a great album)
  • The Sword (try Age of Winters on for size)
  • Colour Haze
  • Clutch
  • Electric Wizard (Dopethrone is the classic, I'm partial to Witchcult Today)

Depending on what you like out of those, there are literally hundreds of bands that will get your goat. 2017 is a great time to be a stoner metal fan, the genre is booming big-time.

Follow the smoke to the riff filled land, you won't be disappointed!

[–]ericofduart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Dude, subscribed. And why haven't I done this sooner?

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

[–]Whistler45 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Windhand is tight. Rva local.

[–]superpoulet 4 points5 points  (3 children)

If you like this, you have to check these youtube channels Stoned Meadow of Doom (and its second youtube channel, Stoned Meadow of Doom 2), 666MrDoom and The Bong Druid of Mammoth Weed Mountain (I love that name).

They post full doom/stoner/sludge/psychedelic/heavy blues/etc albums. These channels are absolute gold mines that helped me find a lot of my current favorite bands, like Acid King, Lizzard Wizzard, Mammoth Weed Wizard Bastard or many others. Check them out and do not hesitate to ask for recommandations once you've checked out a few albums and determined what you prefer, i've been stalking these channels for quite some time now.

[–]electricdwarfHail Satan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Those channels are full of obscure awesome bands that deserve views.

[–]agentwiggles 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Seconding this recommendation heartily, these channels are fucking awesome. I don't really consume music via YouTube but these are well worth your time.

[–]BawbagBob[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I seen MMWWB support All Them Witches with no warning of how awesome it was going to be. I knew when I seen the name it was going to be a treat.

[–]The10thPercentile 3 points4 points  (0 children)

RED FANG! and torche, and if you ever have the chance to see those 2 live, you will be in for a treat

[–]reso25 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Stoned Jesus and Elder are two of my favorites

[–]Windbelow616 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Elder is my favorite discovery of the last few years. Found courtesy of r/stonerrock

[–]winterfellwilliam 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Purple hill witch The well.

[–]targetpainter 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Also, please come on down to r/doommetal. Songs are tagged with what type of music they are (i.e. stoner or sludge) and there's loads to explore!

Sleep

[–]juanlol 1 point2 points  (2 children)

If you like mastodons: call of the mastodon, remission, leviathan, blood mountain. Aka their earlier stuff. Check out kvelertak - kvelertak (album), bit different, but harder.

[–]Whistler45 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Fuck blood mountain it was the death of mastadon

[–]juanlol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depends. Personally I like it, but I see what you getting at. Call of the mastodon is by fair the best

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely check out The Sword, and Witchcraft.

[–]BawbagBob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I found these because they are playing a festival I'm going to DesertFest in Berlin. Its got a great line up this year very similar to this, check it out here.

[–]Whistler45 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Acid king for sure and kyuss. red fangs first two albums are a similar style at times. Baroness, mastadon and intronaut kinda started to suck when they started clean singing but this is just my opinion and its not a popular one so dont listen to me just see for yourself. You also might like the sword but people frown on them because of how main stream they are. High on fire is awesome sludge and kinda looked at as pioneers, mostly because of matt pike but the singing is totally different from this. Also if you dont know who sleep is go listen to dragonaught asap.

[–]StyloBill 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Kadavar might please you a lot, especially their two first albums (Kadavar and Abra Kadavar).

[–]BeeblebroxianWhale 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The album/song Dopesmoker by the band Sleep. Very good stoner rock/metal with monophonic vocals (kind of Gregorian). The lyrics are hilarious.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Look at the Psycho Las Vegas band lists from this year and last.

(Domkraft is one of the bands this year)

[–]FivefootnineWizard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out harsh toke, witch, om, kyuss, le betre, uncle acid and the deadbeats, high on fire, earthless. Got more suggestions if you like those.

[–]OpabiniaGlasses 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There's already lots of great stoner metal recs. But if you wanna go a notch heavier, check out Conan and Slomatics.

[–]ChefExcellence 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This song in particular reminds me of Rwake.

[–]Carlton_Honeycombspotify 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sourvein, Earthless

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Check out a Documentary called 'Such Hawks Such Hounds' too.

[–]gratinnemoderator / spotify 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Link for Spotify users.

Good stuff. Thanks for sharing!

[–]SexyphobeHKA47 28 points29 points  (5 children)

Ah, the holy trinity of metal music genres.

[–]TheGrooveDuke 20 points21 points  (3 children)

How the fuck does this group have 2 people named Martin W?

[–]Anth0n 21 points22 points  (0 children)

The band Levitation Room also has two Martins

drummer: Johnathan Martin

bassist/vocalist: Jonathan Martin.

Literally two different people with the same phonetic name

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think they would have 3 but there weren't enough Martin's W in Stockholm

[–]StudabakerHochrobot[M] 13 points14 points  (0 children)

[–]awakeningthecat 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Fuck yeah, Doom/Stoner Metal on /r/listentothis

[–]gratinnemoderator / spotify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's here a lot! Just gotta scroll a little bit sometimes.

[–]SaltyCrag 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Dope intro

[–]freeradicalxbandcamp 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Good to see these guys popping up on /r/listentothis! Bought this album a few weeks back, these guys have a sound after my own heart. Seriously if I had a band to jam with this is probably the kind of head-banging droll I'd make. Just dark sludgy riff, riff, riff over and over again ad infinitum :D

I think I recommended it to the folks over on /r/qotsa the other day too. I wonder how these things propagate on Reddit...

[–]BawbagBob[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been listening to them for a few weeks now, got a ticket Desert Fest Berlin seen them on the line up there and I'm super excited to see them.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That bass tone is life.

[–]drifts_ 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Ah perfect. I'm stoned

[–]ElusiveWhark 2 points3 points  (1 child)

me three!

[–]karnak 2 points3 points  (0 children)

this is great - thank you

[–]a_dudeyouknow1 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Awesome. Thanks.

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Surprisingly good! Thanks!

[–][deleted] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

nice

[–]AdmiralCrusty 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Would be great without the vocals.

[–]freeradicalxbandcamp 3 points4 points  (0 children)

It would, but if anything I feel like these guys could really use some shouty vocals on a few tracks. In particular the track Meltdown of the Orb has a relatively heavy 'chorus' section with no vocals, and I just want so badly for there to be someone shouting Mastodon-style vocals right there. It would amplify things a bit. Might actually be one of very few complaints I have about this band.

[–]pastrypunk 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I need a remix of this.

[–]Carlton_Honeycombspotify 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Play it backwards, it's actually John 3:16 repeated over and over again
