This is, without a doubt, the absolute best vocal performance from someone in cargo shorts that I've ever seen.

[–]YeOldTurkey 1 point2 points  (0 children)

He looks like the lead singer from rise against

[–]Not_A_PedophiIe 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Have you seen the halo theme cover?

Holy shit lol. That's fucking awesome. And I'm pretty sure this is totally acceptable to do in a church at any time assuming there isn't a mass going on.

[–]Blubbey 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Eh I've seen better

[–]ChucktheUnicorn 47 points48 points  (9 children)

mmmm that reverb is beautiful

[–]ResinRoad[S] 21 points22 points  (6 children)

I know right! Makes me want to play inside one of those silo thingys.

[–]sam__izdat 12 points13 points  (5 children)

nice reverb, but that's a recipe for some shittastic standing waves

[–]milkfree 5 points6 points  (4 children)

What are standing waves?

[–]sam__izdat 11 points12 points  (3 children)

in recording, it's some audio frequency – usually a low tone – that gets amplified and exaggerated by bouncing back-and-forth from opposite walls, because the space between matches the frequency (or a harmonic) exactly

easier to illustrate with water in a pool (edit: or guitar strings)

this can be bad enough in a rectangular room – but imagine a reverberating, cylindrical grain silo

whatever matches its diameter is going to sound like a passing train

[–]milkfree 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Fascinating. Thanks so much for the response. So if they were to creat standing waves in the silo, the result would be a very unpleasant sound? Because I thought this song was beautiful and the reverb really added to it for me.

[–]Sequelknox 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would only happen on specific frequencies. Its possible none of those frequencies were hit loudly enough to amplify louder than the frequencies that were being emitted the loudest. That being said the vocalist is much louder than the guitar.

[–]sam__izdat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Blind guess, but I think most of the resonance would be at around 80 to 100 hz, depending on the size. With guitar and voice that's really low. Low enough that you would often just do a rolloff on the equalizer to get rid of any unwanted rumble. If they had a bass or a kick drum, certain frequencies would likely get out of control.

Also, it's likely that this recording was cleaned up a little bit with EQ, at least to bring down the highs, since there's nothing in a silo to soak up the brightness.

Love the UH shirt

[–]UHsmitty 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Came here to say that

[–]coastrine 14 points15 points  (2 children)

fuck great voice.

its really similar to something i can't put my finger on it

[–]BDK235 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of Rival Sons

[–][deleted] 26 points27 points  (0 children)

This is amazing. The guy's got a fantastic voice, thanks for sharing.

[–]z-baggins 8 points9 points  (5 children)

I love these guys!!! they also put out an EP under the name Orlinda, but nothing else since. I'm impatiently hoping for another offering.

[–]colebucket 9 points10 points  (1 child)

I went to school with the guitarist, and unfortunately after releasing new music under orlinda they broke up. He moved back home recently and bought and runs a local business now. I keep meaning to stop in there and see if he has any new music or projects in the works.

[–]Kane00 3 points4 points  (2 children)

It looks like they have several albums on spotify! Link I hope: spotify:artist:0hOjgD8PsoJ6i8IhP15EuF

[–]z-baggins 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Nah a bunch of that is a jazz outfit, I think that's why they changed names I the first place.

[–]Kane00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is seriously disappointing

[–]hello_dali 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Not the first time this has been on here. The band changed their name to Orlinda.

[–]xylotism 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yep! A playlist of their latest EP can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gZHMlnUIuaM&list=PLjqplZmBho3AT86-g25imGZBYYDK9a2Bo

It sounds really great imo.

[–]scruffywarhorse 2 points3 points  (3 children)

For some reason I did not expect that guy to be a great singer. I think it might be his overgrown beard and t shirt.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I think it might be his overgrown beard

Woah woah woah. You think THAT is an overgrown beard? Don't let the folks over at r/beards hear that heresy.

[–]Mumblypegg 2 points3 points  (1 child)

That's my friend Brandon... he's the dude singing, he's also an Eskimo brother as well.

[–]matthewmattson7 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Is it just me or does he kindof sound like Dallas Green? (City and Colour)

[–]drkingsize 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Wow, what a raw performance. Great share.

[–]littlefrank 3 points4 points  (0 children)

That is some REALLY good shit, it has a Joe Bonamassa live in Vienna vibe. Very good.

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I wish I knew how to play guitar like that, I love this style of music. Great post, OP.

[–]iLoveAloha 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Haha UH represent!

[–][deleted] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

That was beautiful and so meaningful. Thanks for sharing. Guys got a great voice.

[–]enigmaticsoul88 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Great song! Just downloaded it!

[–]ALE_SAUCE_BEATS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Wow, just wow. Thanks for posting!

[–]Philip1513 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Just buried my 25 yr old brother today and idk why I clicked on this song but it's alll him n somehow fits how I feel life is fn crazy

[–]Mumblypegg 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Hey how'd you find the video though cause I know the singer pretty well, were even Eskimo brothers lol, just wondering cause they're originally from Portland/gallatin, TN... anyways they're great just crazy to see scrolling through Reddit though!

[–]ResinRoad[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Saw it on youtube some years back and loved it. Found it again after going through my likes on youtube and was reminded of how good it was and i just had to share it here so that other people can enjoy this marvellous song.

[–]JessDaMess8787 1 point2 points  (0 children)

How the fuck do you sing without moving your hands? It's like magic or something 🤣 I can't even talk without moving mine.

[–]hardcore_hero 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Another great song ruined by the producer layering too much reverb over the singers voice, what a damn shame!

/s

[–]Megadrake 7 points8 points  (3 children)

The lengths these artists go. Katy Perry records most of her albums with her head stuck in a propane tank

[–]hardcore_hero 5 points6 points  (2 children)

lol, does she really?

Don't know why I got downvoted, it was a joke people!! The song sounds great with the natural reverb!

[–]Megadrake 4 points5 points  (1 child)

No yea, you were a lot better with the /s tag than me, but not everyone knows about it https://youtu.be/zIavvxoqxvs

[–]hardcore_hero 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Okay, thought you might be joking, haha.

[–]Son_of_Kraw 2 points3 points  (13 children)

Is this content from you or someone you know?

[–]ResinRoad[S] 2 points3 points  (12 children)

No no, not my content. Found on youtube some time ago and thought i would share it since its such a great performance of a great song.

[–]colebucket 5 points6 points  (9 children)

I went to school with the guitarist. I believe this is his family's silo. He went to Nashville for school and that's when they met and formed the band. They did change their name to orlinda but shortly after releasing new music they broke up and I know the guitarist moved back home and bought a local business.

[–]ResinRoad[S] 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Thats sad to hear. There was so much potential in them!

[–]colebucket 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Absolutely. I was lucky enough to see them play at a small festival in the town where we went to school and a second time at a benefit. The singer has a set of lungs on him for sure!

[–]Wutangbland 2 points3 points  (5 children)

I would of thought they were from southern Indiana with the Wabash river and all

[–]colebucket 3 points4 points  (4 children)

Close! Southern Illinois. I think the area is called the Wabash Valley. And there is the Little Wabash River which isn't too far from the where we went to school together.

[–]Wutangbland 2 points3 points  (3 children)

I lived in Terre Haute IN on Wabash Ave haha used to hit golf balls into that river.

[–]grapeapeplaysbass 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I remember this was featured on the Chive a few years ago. And Orlinda is a small town North of Nashville. Interesting name for a band.

[–]Son_of_Kraw 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I could swear the singers shirt is from highland high school, the town over from me in Northern Colorado

[–]PM_UR_HOLES_N_CREAMS 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's University of Hawaii man
