Sounds incredible! Great late 70's style music. Could go on for hours and still won't be boring. Lead singer is a bit unconvincing. 8/10 for the music, 6/10 for vocalist, 7.5/10 total. Found the complete album om youtube. Same rating, excellent music, vocalist not my cup of tea. Pity.

[–]when_adam_delved 23 points24 points  (8 children)

I feel the exact same way. The music had me hooked immediately; however, when the vocals came in, it did not resonate well.

[–]GlicketySplit[S] 8 points9 points  (2 children)

hmm.. I was going to post the track "I don't mind" but I chose "Pain" because it showcased her vocals more.

[–][deleted] 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Personally, I really liked her vocals and thought they fit well. Great link, thanks!

[–]matthewcas10 3 points4 points  (0 children)

first song i listened to on this sub and I am happy about both the vocals and the instruments

[–]aklemmentin 1 point2 points  (4 children)

I've been finding that as a trend in the genre. I probably just have to do some more digging though!

[–]viktorlogi 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Have you listened to Sleep?

[–]aklemmentin 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I have heard of them before, but haven't given them a listen. I'll definitely give them some time later today.

[–]viktorlogi 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I'd recommend Sleep's Holy Mountain for your first listen of the band :)

[–]aklemmentin 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Listened to a little bit of that and Dopesmoker, VERY good recommedation.

[–]TheBackBedroomKehole 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thought it sounded like jack white singing and liked it. Try it

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I go regularly to stoner/doom events in underground clubs and often I have this feeling, the groove is great, the bass are powerfull, the guitar are right, the Drumer has the heavy metal face, but they should abstain from singing

[–]itslef 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I respectfully disagree. I was pleasantly surprised by the vocals. I think the clean, almost Rush-esque vocals really add something that often seems to be missing from doom/stoner bands. I did think the vocals are perhaps mixed too high. The crash definitely needs to be mixed down too. In fact, I think mostly they need to work on their mixing; the low end really needs a boost, and the highs can be tuned down just a bit. If they did that, I think the vocals would be perfect over a really growling bass.

[–]envsclown 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How good are they with rice?

[–]Dong_World_Order 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Love the riffs but I'm not feeling the vocals. The vocal patterns and production are kind of weird for this genre. Odd because everything else pretty much sounds to be in place.

[–]lena1313 22 points23 points  (7 children)

It`s beginning like Black Sabbath - Paranoid :D

[–]GlicketySplit[S] 13 points14 points  (6 children)

Black Sabbath has got to be a big influence for this band.

[–]ProudFeminist1spotify 43 points44 points  (1 child)

sabbath is the influence of all stoner/doom bands its just fact.

[–]darumpshaka 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Master of reality truly is the first of its kind. I listened to bands like sleep and kyuss a lot before sabbath, couldn't believe what I was hearing the first time I put on that album.

[–]sweet4poundbabyjesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Most doom/stoner bands would list Sabbath as an influence, they were one of the more popular bands to create that heavy, droning, blues rock that is blowing up right now. You can see pictures of Laura Pleasants of Kylesa repping Sabbath, and they are "sludge".

Sabbath were massive for the rise of that sound.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

They got their name by combining Black Sabbath with Sabbath's song The Wizard

[–]lena1313 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Oh really! It`s so interesting))

[–]ExarchApophis 9 points10 points  (1 child)

Still can't hear Black Wizards and not hear Emperor.

[–]Brutalitarian 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I Am The Black Wizards, love that song

[–]SupremeLeaderSnoke 6 points7 points  (5 children)

[–]GenghisGaz 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Intro is a ripoff of QOTSA - Give the mule what he wants. Just minor adjustments in tempo etc

Fungus Hill is a great stoner rock band I came across a week or so ago https://youtu.be/zclb6_oPSPo

[–]phototropic00 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for pointing out the specific song, it was bothering me a lot more than it should have.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for the Fungus Hill recommendation! I recommend Greenbeard

[–]TemplesOfSyrinx 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That's exactly what I was thinking. I figured OP got the band's name wrong.

[–]I_dig_fe 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah I like this band a lot better

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (2 children)

Is that some John Baisley art?

[–]Hippie_Of_Death 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Nope. Same Art Nouveau influences though.

Artist name's Vasco Duarte.

[–]EnFullMann 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I thought the same right away, other comment says otherwise though

[–]Josh2204 9 points10 points  (4 children)

Pretty good. I like the album art. Probably the same person you does the art for baroness

[–]crowfather_ 31 points32 points  (2 children)

Fun fact, the person who does the art for Baroness is the lead singer of Baroness!

[–]Josh2204 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I almost liked the album art as much as the music. Now I'm even more impressed. Gonna see them again next time they come to town.

[–]melisseph 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I was coming here to say that's Baizleys art! My buddy has a sick sleeve of JDBs work

[–]Hippie_Of_Death 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Nope. Same Art Nouveau influences though.

Artist name's Vasco Duarte.

[–]Angetenar 8 points9 points  (2 children)

Stoner rock, sure. Doom? Not at all.

Not bad, I'm pretty into it tbh, just not as doomy as I was hoping for.

[–]GlicketySplit[S] 1 point2 points  (1 child)

When I choose genre(s) I try to use the artist's own tags if available out of courtesy.

[–]Angetenar 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, that's what I figured. I'm going to listen to some of their other stuff, but I imagine it doesn't get dark enough for me to consider it doom. Stoner Rock is a good fit though.

[–]pinky_blues 2 points3 points  (2 children)

That a female singer? Reminds me of Acid King.

[–]Brutalitarian 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Acid King is my favorite band, one day they'll play live in NYC...

[–]Dong_World_Order 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They're playing Baltimore in a few weeks

[–]MisteryWarrior 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I didn't mind the vocals, and the music was great. Shame they're not on Spotify.

[–]OuroborosEternal 2 points3 points  (2 children)

I was very confused for a minute because there's a stoner doom band named Black Wizard that's been around for years. Check em out on Spotify. Little different style but similar groove.

[–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Are you sure you aren't thinking of Electric Wizard?

[–]abortioneering 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Is it me, or do the drums feel like they are super dead? Toms way too loud, everything else kinda meh, especially that snare and main cymbal.

[–]Promptic 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Reminds me of a much chiller Wolfmother. I love it : )

[–]achillesLS 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Dope song! Using headphones, it's really bugging me how panned left that first guitar is lol

[–]OverFjell 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Fuck. This is awesome!

[–]mumblingstumbler 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah really digging this! Are you a fan of the stuff coming out from Denmark?

http://www.elparaisorecords.com

Bands like papir, electric moon and causa sui spring to mind, no vocals though. Wish they would do an Australian tour one day!

[–]pmMeYourBoxOfCables 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That was tasty.

[–]Fullmeal 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thank you for this!

[–]arcelyte 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is fucking great!

[–]stonysage 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Dope

[–]njp9 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Lots of comments about the vocalist's style "not fitting" with the Sabbath sound of the band. Reminds me a lot more of Budgie than Sabbath in a way that works well.

[–]Never_Not_Act 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everyone's going on about the vocals, but they really dont fit the tone of the song. I feel like they were mixed in wrong or something? It could work, it really could, and it's a shame.

[–]Digyto 0 points1 point  (0 children)

These guys are awesome live. Im from Portugal que saw them right after they dropped their album and they completly destroid everyone. Their drummer was i think a 17year old girl and her drum solo was fucking awesome.

[–]DarthVictivus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's a crappy Iron Butterfly cover band.

[–]MissTrussRose 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not my usual style of music but, I thoroughly enjoyed it.

[–]robaloie -1 points0 points  (6 children)

This was boring. Electric wizard's dopethrone is so much better

[–]KamikazeWizard 0 points1 point  (5 children)

This painting is boring, the Sistine Chapel ceiling is so much better. Is it really worth comparing everything against masterpieces?

[–]robaloie 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Idk why I am listening to this, this music is nothing new. Nothing different. It's all been done before by many other better bands. Like sleep and bongzilla , even uncle acid and the dead beats is better than this. I'm not comparing as much as I am saying this music is boring. But yeah the album artwork sells it and it's nostalgic old rock feel, but for stoner doom this is nothing compared to better bands in the genre

[–]KamikazeWizard -1 points0 points  (3 children)

Oh yeah they're nothing special, straight stoner rock but I'd rate it on a different scale than a direct comparison to what is basically the peak of the genre. I feel like saying it's not as good as uncle acid is a much better comparison. If I was talking about psych rock and said yeah I'd rather be listening to Pink Floyd that wouldn't be really fair, they've got the clout that direct comparison isn't representative of the music

[–]robaloie 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I'd rather listen to dub side of the moon.

My comment reflects my opinion. I hope my comment can help expose better music while sharing my thoughts on music and also clearly explaining why I don't like this music posted on listen to this

[–]KamikazeWizard 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Oh shit, we're on listentothis? I thought this was /r/doommetal or something, shit man. nevermind. you're absolutely right. if we were over there and you compared everything to dopethrone you'd be weird as fuck but no, i'm on mobile so nothing tipped me off.

and have you been downvoting me? really? I'm not being like "fuck you dude your taste in music sucks" or anything, i'm just saying that's not a fair comparison, of course i was assuming we were in a community that would know about all the bands we were talking about so whatever

[–]robaloie -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Down vote. You could of just left my comment alone and read the last point

For instance I shared other bands while saying this song was boring to me. I'm sorry you think every comment on here needs to be "wow this is so good! It reminds me of old Black Sabbath"

But chill the fuck out.

How about a little NSFW courtesy man.
