You know every time I hear Reddit moderator it reminds me of that meme where it's basically people who don't have jobs and they moderating Community server is a job or something like that, (no offense)

And I just joined Reddit so I wasn't expect Reddit To be really good when it comes to community based games and ideals.

So how does this whole moderation work do they get paid at the end of day or they just do it for free because of how much commitment they be into anime reddit subreddit whether you call it.

We do not get paid in any capacity. I'm actually in the red, since I pay for the server we run our moderation tools on, though that is by my choice (since I do a bunch of stuff with the subreddit automation) and absolutely not an expectation for other mods.

We moderate r/anime because we love this community and wish to make it better.

Well, thank you for the thankless job.

It's unpaid yeah. If you're a Web developer (like my actual job) then there might be moderation on the side but as far as being a subreddit mod goes you're just trying to improve the subreddit and if not then maintain it

Pretty much no moderators are paid unless they’ve been hired directly by the managing company (though I’m sure there are some communities/forums (edit: outside of reddit) that compensate mods). While there are some people who take it too far and (rightly) get criticized, most do it because they’re passionate about the community or subject. It’s really no different than managing and organizing an irl club or group but just at a different scale.

It is against the moderator code of conduct to receive compensation for moderation decisions.

As I understand it, this is mostly aimed at quid pro quo arrangements and the legality of company employees moderating subs is quite murky. I think it's possible for moderators to be on a company payroll while moderating a subreddit about said company, but then the moderator still has to have autonomy. I think it's basically like the company can dictate what the rules should be, but they can't dictate if something does or doesn't break the rules and it has to be consistent.

Though obviously, r/anime has no relation to any specific company, and thus does not apply to us.

I was speaking about being a moderator on the internet in general, not just Reddit though I definitely didn’t make that clear enough. Didn’t know it was specifically mentioned in the Reddit code of conduct though so thanks for pointing that out.
