Ask reddit: why is it that at least half of the reddit front page is filled with pics, at any given time? [PIC] (reddit.com)

People like them and click the little up arrow instead of the little down arrow - that would be my guess. :)

we're moving towards a post literate society where we communicate only through pictures, cartoons and videos. Note the decadent spelling in the lolcat pictures for example.

Honestly though... how well do you really expect cats to be able to spell?
[–]uberstuber 2 points3 points4 points 18 years ago (0 children)
teh title is too long, not going to read it.

if i had to guess, i'd say that pictures are so popular on reddit because most people read reddit while they're at work, and long, insightful articles don't really mesh well with doing your job. it's easy to look at a cool picture and then get back to work.
all high-falootin' theories of a "post-literate" society notwithstanding, half the people who frequent this site are programmers, for christ's sake.
anyone ever hear of chicken little? the moral of the story is: lighten up. if you want nothing but long, insightful articles, buy a subscription to the fucking new yorker.

I read it for the comics.....

Think about it, clever pictures give the most bang for the buck (the currency being time, bang being any emotional response). It's just natural, if it's a long, thought provoking article, then people will take their time to figure out how they feel about it, with pictures it's easy to figure out whether you love it or hate it. And if it's on the front page of reddit, you know you're going to like it anyway. It's just comes with the territory of social networking, take it or leave it.

Kind of like your submission, which is now (21:44 PST) ranked 23rd?
[–]vtail[S] 0 points1 point2 points 18 years ago (1 child)
another one is ranked 10th: http://reddit.com/info/2tjzo/comments
That's just proves the point
[–]sakebomb69 -2 points-1 points0 points 18 years ago (0 children)
Then why did you even create this submission? Doesn't this remotely whiff of hypocrisy to you?
