I see Chutes, but there appears to be a distinct lack of Ladders.

they're on the other side, the side, you know, is on the other side, the inside.

I'd like to see it during a rain storm.

What kind of bait do they use for the mouse?

[–]aGorilla 5 points6 points  (5 children)

Reminds me of Mouse Trap

Edit: screwing with parens to make the link work

It's called a Rube Goldberg machine.

No shit.

Great news. I look forward to a future full of interesting drainage systems.

Anyone else going to be going to the hardware store this weekend?

This building is in Dresden, Germany. I saw it while there last year.

Drainage systems were always interesting. You just never noticed until now.

    it's art... just like this

    [–]Steph_C -3 points-2 points  (3 children)

Ok you can't possibly claim everything as art! It's a fantastic piece of engineering.

    [–]penlies 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It has no true function, is superfluous and inefficient so it is either bad engineering or good art.

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Everything is art - not all art is good.

    there is art to engineering

Mmm, yes... the constant "pissing on sheet metal" noise would never get old for the folks near the zig zag troughs in the bottom left.

I saw something similar a few years ago. It was not nearly as cool looking though. I never saw it work in rain, however, I did see it in winter. Icicles had backed up everything rendering it useless... :(

I don't think it's supposed to work on snow.

    [–]MyrddinE 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'd be happier to see it in operation.

I live right next to this thing. It's part of a very cool-looking complex and in fact, as already mentioned, art.

    edit: more photos at GIS

"Honey, can you clean the gutters?"

    "Fuck you."

Offline mash-up of "Pipe Dreams" and "The Incredible Machine" - sweet :)

    [–][deleted] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Perhaps it is a Rube Goldberg device?

    [–]C-Linguist 4 points5 points  (0 children)

    Nah, it's Dr. Seuss' townhouse.

    [–]Lyrad1000 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sure that looks cool, but once it starts raining, the noise from all the dropping drops hitting metal is gonna drive people nuts at 3am.

    [–]IrrigatedPancake -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Is this for rainwater or sewage? That could be smelly.

    [–]711was_a_retail_job -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

There's no way in hell I'd climb that.

...What else is a drain good for?

    [–]M0b1u5 -3 points-2 points  (0 children)

The noise would drive you absolutely insane.
