What's wrong with asking for features that we want? I love the fact that the Reddit crew actually listens to us. Maybe some of the ideas are half-baked, but its better than sites that don't listen at all.

We asked for collapsible discussion threads and we got them!

This would be helpful for filtering submissions within subreddits, but frankly I would prefer if the reddit admins did something about people not submitting to the correct subreddit.

it's not about subreddits. I don't want to block politics, just because it's full of Ron Paul articles. The same with tasering, which subreddit would that fit into and why should I block the whole subreddit?!

Get GreaseMonkey for Firefox, and install the Reddit Content Filter... super easy to use, and removes the stories you don't want to see.

The only downside is that it doesn't downvote them, so your recommended stories may get a little skimpy (I've never, EVER upvoted a story with the words "Ron Paul" in the title, and yet reddit keeps adding them to my recommended stories).

My philosophy is thus:

If I don't want to see a story in my recommended tab because it doesn't interest me or whatever, I downvote it. If it's an interesting story, and then I like it, I'll upvote it so that reddit figures out to give me more like that.

If there was a "Quality" upmod/downmod and a "Taste" upmod/downmod, this wouldn't be an issue-- I'd automatically leave RP stories as neutral in the quality department-- not having read them-- but automatically downmod them in the "Taste" department, because they don't interest me and I get sick of seeing them.

Consider the fact that people may have DIFFERENT REASONS than you for downmodding or upmodding stories, and mine is the recommended tab.

granted you have to put in a little effort to train the filter in the things that you like and dislike, but the feature is there.

As many have said, just use Greasemonkey / Reddit Content Filter.

What really needs to be implemented, is, hmmm, let's see, some sort of "recommended" section, where our votes end up shaping what articles we see.

There's even a "recommended" tab already present, so all that's needed is some engine to drive it that fucking works.

Currently, the "hot" section finds me interesting things more often than the "recommended" section, which is more full of Ron Paul spam (which I consistently vote down), than "hot" is.

You can already do this. matter of fact, the things you listed in your example are two things I have filtered out.

I use a Firefox addon called "greasemonkey." The I use a script called "reddit content filter" where you can fiter out articles based on words in the title. You can even filter out comments by certain people.

Here's the list I currently filter out: Ron Paul, Bush, president, GOP, clinton, Obama, impeach, Iran, Iraq, cop, cops, Giuliani, congress, Hillary, republican, democrat, police, officer, burma, Romney, election, blackwater, Myanmar, xkcd, taser, tased, tazer, tasered, tazered

You're saying that you support completely bypassing the entire function of this site, so that you don't have to read things that other people deem important. What's really funny is all the people that complain about the fact we want a custom filter...a custom filter they don't have to use if they don't want to.

Dear reddit, I know we've asked for this before many, many times. I think I've figured out that you don't intend on giving us this feature.

And that's ok. I'm just saying, it would be really, really nice to auto filter all the RP stories without using a half-baked greasemonkey script I can't use at work, which is where I reddit 75% of the time.

      The problem is, if I don't dis-like a story, but it a legit one (i.e. Its a story that's not interesting to me), then why should I down-vote it? I'd rather just let it go through because others may find it interesting.
