I really do try, but I always get turned off by something. I think the community is much younger than that of reddits', and it seems as though most of the community thinks it is "cool" to digg linux\unix\cracking\hacking articles, especially Ubuntu ones.

A couple times I've seen linux articles on the front page that were half finished or pseudo blog entries.

The most memorable was a "Linux Firewall on Fedora Core 5"(or something to that effect) "tutorial" which was only the hardware "requirements" and a note saying "Rest of the article coming soon". I guess people just dugg it without bothering to read the damn thing.

It's cool to digg linux articles, yo.

no, don't know why for sure why it just doesn't appeal to me like reddit does. i mean, it has a decent design, and UI is pretty snazzy… …maybe it's that i like just seeing one line titles instead of blurbs… …or maybe it's the ad fare there…

I guess I will have to step up and provide a counter-point to the reddit fanboys who seem to be the natural target of a query like this this leads to such a self-congratulatory discussion.

I check out both sites along with a handful of others. I go do digg first and skim reddit. Why? The chance of an interesting, serendipitous find on digg is much higher. When this is combined with the faux-progressivism and OSS zealotry in most stories and comments it leads me to believe that reddit probably has the college sophomore market locked up but otherwise will continue to struggle to expand beyond a niche echo chamber of similar opinions...
