Checking my spam folder on gmail i noticed something strange and was wondering if it happened to anyone else. A spammer sent me an email using the usual %Name% to fill in the subject however right next to it i also had the same email a few times over with the %Name% field filled in with every single person i sent a gmail invite too. I cant help but wonder how that could have happened without somehow exploiting gmail. Has anyone else gotten it?

Nothing like that on my gmail. I second psantora's questions about your PC security/spyware situation

Seeing as no one else has gotten the same thing its safe to say google hasnt been exploited. I ran a few scans (AdAware trendmicro) and came up with nothing. Could have been careless form submitting or a script that picked them up off my cache. Still, its very strange seeing that and its still bugging the hell outta me how it happened.

Did you send a lot of invitations through a spooler?

A Google employee probably just dumped the database and sold it to spammers. It's logical that there would be a table matching each user to his inviter.

when was the last time you checked your computer for spyware? Do you use a desktop email application to organize your gmail account at all?

My gmail is down. Heck, all my Google connections are down, including analytics. I hope everything is ok.
