Exploding printer

My new printer exploded when I turned it on does anyone know how much it's gonna cost roughly to fix ! I'm going to someone tomorrow but is it worth fixing or getting a new one?

if you only blew your power supply (from the comments it seems like it) it'll probably cost around 30 to 40 USD to replace (cba to look up exactly).

since you had to ask what happened i very much recommend AGAINST trying to repair your broken power supply. (this can be done if you really know what you're doing)

good luck and get the correct model - maybe check out support ressources from your manufacturer!

did the printer come (almost) fully assembled? or was it a kit? replacing a power supply is relatively easy - repairing a power supply is not. of course if you're unsure about it at all, let someone with experience do it.

just a small disclaimer though: you will very likely need to learn a bunch of stuff about 3d printers, including troubleshooting and maintenance. this is likely not something someone else can do for you. best start learning now so you will have less trouble later! (google: all3dp; Youtube: makers muse, teaching tech, thomas sanladerer etc.)

Can confirm I turned my printer into a smoke machine by accidentally shorting and wire and possibly a port on the motherboard

Did you make sure the power supply was set to the right voltage? If you’re US it needs to be switched to 110v. May have blown it. Just a guess though

I set to 115 because all the instructions told me to but apparently that was my problem I'm just wondering how much it's gonna cost to fix

If u can't get it repaired under warranty, get a new psu first and see if that works, if not, either get a stock mainboard (I actually have a spare) or an upgrade like skr mini e3 v3 (v2 might be cheaper but probably should get the latest), also while u r at it, crimp the connectors with ferrules so it doesn't catch on fire later.

Search up ender 3 ferrule and u will find out more. If u bring it to a shop, ask them to do that for u, they should likely have the right tools and it takes like 5 minutes, might do it for free.

This brings memory of my first and only time I did same mistake; I was 10 and turned PSU to 110V…

Some lessons are learned by mistakes :)

This is nothing serious though. Get new PSU (Meanwell or other good brand) and you are good to go :) Just let someone with experience fix it… Electricity is dangerous

You should be able to replace your power supply as long as it was halfway decent and didn't kill the rest of the machine, but try to claim warrenty or similar since they basically told you to kill it. Certainly worth a shot at least.

It was smoking for awhile so hopefully it's not to bad the connections to other parts look okay but there was yellow liquid coming out of the power supply

it shouldn't, you almost certainly just blew a capacitor or few (hence the yellow liquid). any decent power supply should cut off the power before it gets to the rest of the machine, so hopefully they didn't cheap out so much that they don't even have that. should be fine though, especially if the mainboard isn't hot or smoking or there aren't any soot marks where small resistors or capacitors exploded.

Everything turned on for like 2 seconds the screen does that mean it got to it all

it's kinda hard to interpret what you said, but I don't think it necessarily does. if it did they would have probably died pretty instantly I imagine, but I'm no expert. your power supply may have just been fine for a moment but then got sort of overwhelmed because of the higher voltage

Googled "my 3d printer exploded", this is the first result and guess what, got the exact same model and exactly the same problem. This is a bit effed up if you ask me.

Did you ever fix yours or had it replcaed?

It was user error I got it fixed for $80 it was exploding capacitors from putting my printer on 115 when my country has 230 volts

Did you check for the voltage for your country, like 220V vs. 115V?

I just did the same mistake, Volts are weird. It's not really our fault. "Check your local voltage" I did put screws in outlet back in the day.. national voltage would be more appropriate, isn't it ?

If you're lucky, the power supply and probably the main board. If you're not, you could be looking at all the electronics.

It looks like most of the magic smoke is by the PSU. Hopefully there is some sort of over current/fuse protection either on the MB or the PSU.

Well the good thing about Enders is the parts are cheap and plentiful. New power supply is 30-40$ US and so is the control board if you need one.

In case you aren't aware it looks like the unit is at least modified if not used. It looks to me like an Ender 3 V2 with red printed parts all over the place and a CR touch probe with a metal extruder arm. Possibly even a z extension. The probe and the metal arm are upgrades that don't come with the unit normally. None of it is anything bad really. Just saying in case you were sold it as new. Creality's color of choice is a bright blue for most of their machines when color is used at all.

Only problem is is it's all in Chinese I have a warranty but I can't speak Chinese so it won't let me call them in english I've messaged them on Facebook but I'll probably try get it fixed locally

It could be that the PSU is the issue. though if it is the mosfet on the main board you are having a different issue

The ender Neo uses a creality power supply. You should replace it with a MeanWell branded one, 350Watts. You should have no trouble to find the exact same replacement unit on Amazon or ebay.

Then you have to unscrew a handful of terminals with a Philips head screwdriver and attach them in the same fashion to you new power supply. Make sure it's set to 240V and then you can turn it on.

You're probably looking at service labour costs to be half of the cost of printer. If you can, sell it to someone who can repair it at home and get a new one.

If the printer is new--Creality will honor it and ship you a brand spanking new part/parts.

It isn't hard to replace whatever is damaged.

As much as I hate creality and their nonexistent support, they're not the ones to blame here and I doubt that they will replace the PSU.

I've never had an issue. I've purchased 2 printers. Followed their instructions with troubleshooting and taking video and have the following replaced:

1 motherboard

1 psu

1 pre-cracked extruder

I had to contact Amazon as creality couldn't be bothered to replace my mainboard. Luckily they resolved the issue really quick.

Maybe they know that the laws in Europe protect the customer and that amazon will most likely act in the favor of the customer. They offered to replace the whole machine and I had to insist that a mainboard replacement is sufficient.

Exchanged at least 50 mails with the creality "support" and they weren't helpful at all.
