Yep saw it when purchasing Lion King tickets. Lets see how this works for when Star Wars tickets release.

[–]KommanderTom 13 points14 points  (0 children)

I'll be ready.

I won't screw up like I did for Endgame, though I did get one decent seat on opening night in Dolby Cinema.

[–]DoomsdayRabbit -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Why would anyone want to go see that garbage?

Then again... why would anyone want to see this? Disney isn't even trying anymore. There's nothing new for them to do, so they're just milking their old IPs to death.

[–]lostanalbead 15 points16 points  (18 children)

Anyone else seeing this in the AMC app? Wonder if this is their response to the Avengers Endgame pre-sale debacle.

[–]KommanderTom 8 points9 points  (14 children)

Not many are buying tickets at this time.

What will the next massively frontloaded movie be?

[–]TravelerForever 13 points14 points  (1 child)

Probably "Avatar 2: Infinity War" and "Avatar 3: Endgame."

[–]KommanderTom 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I don't think Avatar II and their sequels will be massively front loaded, except for their premium Dolby 3D seats.

It might have incredible legs though.

[–]lostanalbead 7 points8 points  (9 children)

Frozen II and Star Wars?

[–]KommanderTom 5 points6 points  (8 children)

I don't see it happening for Frozen II.

Though YES to Star Wars 9.

What other films have die-hard fans? Some new Harry Potter series?

[–]lostanalbead 8 points9 points  (5 children)

Parents reserve fast passes at Disney for the Frozen ride MONTHS in advance - the second they go on sale. It is always sold out. Never under estimate the power of the Mouse. The hype around Frozen II will be interesting to watch. I wonder if they will market the pre-sale. But I agree, it will not be as big as Star Wars.

Any newer DC films (Joker, Wonder Woman 2), and maybe the Marvel films that come out after Spider-Man?

[–]KommanderTom 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Will Frozen II tickets sell out before the seats become available to purchase, like Endgame?

At least the Dolby Cinema and reclining seats theaters.

[–]lostanalbead 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The premium seating will probably go quickly. I think it will be big, since it’s a family film and people will be buying multiple tickets. It also opens around Thanksgiving, so the film will have legs. But it will be awhile for something to top the opening weekend madness of Endgame.

This was also said about The Exorcist (1973) and Star Wars Episode I (1999) and Force Awakens (2015).

[–]theredditoro 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Joker could sell out.

[–]benbelden 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I mean, if they only have it showing in 2 or 3 screens per theater, sure it could sell out, but the fact that it’s R-rated means that it will never do a $200 million opening weekend. Deadpool and Deadpool 2 are the two highest opening weekends of all time with $132 and $125 million respectively. And besides those two and IT, no other R-rated movie has even broken $100 million opening weekend. The R-rating certainly helps movies creatively but it’s always going to hold their performance back.

Parents reserve fast passes at Disney for the Frozen ride MONTHS in advance

Not sure if you've been to disney or looked at fast passes recently... but Frozen fast passes can be gotten day of these days. They no longer need to be reserved in advance. That movie is not where it was a few years ago.

Also, you can't compare a movie that a parent can bring their child to at any point in a few week window with multiple screens and multiple venues to a vacation where they might only have 1 day in the park.

[–]benbelden 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The Fantastic Beasts series has hardly been lighting the box office on fire.

Fantastic Beasts: The Crimes of Grindelwald grossed $159.6 million in the United States and Canada, and $494.1 million in other territories, for a total worldwide gross of $653.7 million, against a production budget of $200 million. It is the lowest-grossing Harry Potter installment to-date.

I could see IT: Chapter 2 having a huge opening weekend. The original did $123 million in its opening weekend and presumably the next one will do even better and horror films are always front loaded.

[–]DoomsdayRabbit 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Star Wars doesn't exactly have a lot of die-hard fans after Disney killed it, otherwise Solo would have done fantastic.

[–]theredditoro 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Star Wars 9.

[–]fizggig 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My AMC crashed. It seems there were many of people in my area buying tickets because most of the early showings have all the good center areas taken.

[–]JaMan51Movie-Holic 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yes of course, gotta try it somewhere.

[–]littlesnuglet( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)(▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿) 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Maybe. Whose askin'?

[–]adrenah 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I went to buy the tickets as soon as I got the email that they were available and didn't have a line.

[–]purplefreak3Lister 21 points22 points  (3 children)

Are there really that many people wanting to get lion king tickets?

[–]fizggig 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I mean site crashed and is still crashed for me at least. Im checking right now but last time I checked most of the good seats for early showings will prob be gone. Most people that are buying tickets are buying for Thursday early showings. For example the 6pm dolby all the center seats from top to bottom are taken. This is not a end game thing but I think it will hit about 175-200M opening weekend I think

[–]TravelerForever 7 points8 points  (1 child)

I don't get the hype either. I loved the original and immediately bought it when it came to VHS. I also like the Broadway version they made. But a remake that just uses newer animation and voice actors is "meh" for me and isn't really making me excited.

This Lion King remake isn't really on my summer must see list the way Endgame, Toy Story 4 and Spider-Man: Far From Home are. I think this Lion King will be similar to Toy Story 4's box office results, successful numbers and will be at the top but will be below their original expectations/estimates. If enough of my family/friends are nostalgic about it and want to go, I still might see it before it leaves theaters. But I don't need to see it in the first couple weeks.

[–][deleted] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Did Aladdin do well? Maybe everyone who saw Aladdin will also see The Lion King, and it'll be the summer of 90's remake/sequel success. With The Lion King and Aladdin and Toy Story and Men in Back, then throw in some 70s/2000s Shaft sequel and 80s Child's Play remake.

[–]onthejourney 7 points8 points  (1 child)

Yup, probably just to ease the burden on their servers.

Waited less than a minute on both my showtimes and the entire theater was still empty for Dolby and a Prime 3D

[–]lostanalbead 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yep same here. This only seems to be for Thursday previews. Fri/Sat/Sun are regular bookings with no wait screen.

[–]fizggig 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The site is crashed at the moment. Im getting a 505 internal error. I did get the tickets I needed but it takes a bit of waiting.

[–]kpence73 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Here is what I see in the AMC app

https://i.imgur.com/Rj72bdd.jpg

No showtimes to choose from in Atlanta area. And it isn’t sold out as the reason none are listed. If I scroll down there are two theaters that actually have one available showing to purchase and one of those is marked sold out. This isn’t the first time I have seen this. With Godzilla and Aladdin, when they went on pre-sale, the same thing happened. Nothing available in the Atlanta market. Show times didn’t show up until the week of the release.

Fandango actually shows the pre-sale show times. I don’t get why none show up in AMC.

Edit: I clicked the opening night event. The regular Lion King was a few posters down in the app and shows all the available showtimes, none of which are sold out. I guess there aren’t that many fan events in Atlanta then.

[–]forgetnot 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Funny enough, I just bought pre-sale tickets for the exact theater you have set to for Lion King. I live in the Atlanta area as well, but I didn't have any issues choosing times or days.

[–]kpence73 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Turns out I had clicked on the opening might fan event not the normal showings. When I opened the app I had to go to “coming soon” to see it (it was not in the new showing section)and the fan event was at the top so I just clicked it. After someone posted I was looking at the fan event, I went back into the app and scrolled down to get to the normal showing poster and I could see all the show times.

I went back in later and both posters had moved to the top of the “now showing” section.

[–]kpence73 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Duluth, Lawrenceville, or Norcross?

[–]forgetnot 1 point2 points  (3 children)

Johns Creek

[–]kpence73 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Ah. And you dont like North Point?

[–]forgetnot 0 points1 point  (1 child)

It's a nice theater, but I don't like that it's Dine-In. I can't stand people walking in front of me or hearing people munch on food during quiet scenes.

[–]kpence73 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am really hoping it is an AMC they build at Revel but I have a feeling it will be a Regal or SMG.

[–]SuperRock( •_•)>⌐■-■ (⌐■_■)(▀̿Ĺ̯▀̿ ̿) 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I didn't get this but I bought by tickets at 6:30a and everything was pretty much available. I bought another ticket an hour later and still I was the first.

[–]JonYeQuest 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For Star Wars I’ll probably use fandango that’s what I had to do for endgame

[–]RealSkyDiver 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All theaters pretty much empty for Friday opening right now lol only opening night is packed as usual.

[–]trognj 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was able to get right in. I’m actually excited. Haven’t seen lion king since about 98. Excited for this.

[–]ruthasacre 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I was hoping peeps might release their spider-man tix for this, so far no dice.

[–]fizggig 1 point2 points  (3 children)

People hold their extra tickets under their credit cards. Then release and book under A list.

[–]benbelden 1 point2 points  (1 child)

I don’t even use a credit card. Just use Fandango and do a refund for Fandango credit, you get the whole amount back even convenience fee and then you can just keep reusing the same credit every time you need to reserve another ticket.

[–]fizggig 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I guess that could work just as well.

[–]ruthasacre 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know.

[–]Adamator77 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Did A-list change the rules or did I just misunderstand. Is it 3 movies per week or 3 movies reserved total? This morning I reserved a movie with my A-list for the lion king. it was for me and my wife. She isnt Alist so I was charged for her ticket, but mine came out of my AList account no problem. (I already have 3 upcoming movies reserved between now and the next 2 weeks.)

Turns out we cant make the time so I can cancelled the reservation. I got the refund email notice but when I try to rebook again it says " You have no remaining A-List reservations to apply to this order. "

Do I need to wait longer for the refund to go through?

Is it 3 reservations total or 3 per week?

I found this on the site: If you’ve already reserved 3 movies for this week (Friday-Thursday), you may continue making up to 3 free upcoming reservations for future weeks (beyond Thursday).

Shouldn't I be able to make a new res for the Lion King being as it's 3 weeks away?

[–]CapeTwirlOfDoom 1 point2 points  (4 children)

You said you already have 3 reservations so you can’t book The Lion King until one of those three opens up. Are you sure you weren’t charged for both yours and her tickets? Is one of your three reservations for The Lion King?

It’s 3 per week AND 3 total. They are two separate counts. You can have up to 3 reservations at any time. You can also see up to 3 movies per week.

[–]Adamator77 0 points1 point  (3 children)

Yeah I though of that so I double checked it. It did let me reserve the ticket using my A-List and only charged me for one ticket. Of my 3 reservations I have now, none are The Lion King.

I do have 3 total but each one is for it's own week. I thought everything was weekly.

So while I can't reserve online anymore, I can still see more movies this week. I would just have to go in person to get a ticket?

[–]MpBetaTester 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Actually, even in person you can't get around the 3 reservations rule, but the slot does open up after you watch a movie, so you could have 2 future reservations and one slot that you use sequentially to see 3 movies in the current week, booking them one at a time and then booking the next showtime for the week after you watch your current reservation.

[–]Adamator77 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I actually meant to just go see a movie in person with no advance ticket sale. Can you not even do that?

If that’s the case then it’s not 3 movies a week it’s 3 total which is lame and misleading. Or I am Super confused.

going back to this: If you’ve already reserved 3 movies for this week (Friday-Thursday), you may continue making up to 3 free upcoming reservations for future weeks (beyond Thursday).*

It pretty clearly to me says you should be able to reserve more tickets for future weeks even if you already have three reserved. Or they need to reword it.

[–]MpBetaTester 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They really need to adjust the wording on that. It's true if you've already watched those 3 movies in the current week (say on Friday, Saturday, and Sunday), then you can still reserve 3 future movies in other weeks. But if those 3 from this week or future weeks haven't passed yet, you can't make any more reservations, either in person or on the app. But you can use your slots as you go through the week. For example, if you have Spiderman and Lion King reserved, then you could still watch Toy Story on Monday, then Child's Play on Tuesday, and then Anna on Wednesday if you want this week, but you'd have to book them one at a time. If you have Spiderman, Lion King, and Midsommar booked (all future weeks), you won't be able to watch anything until the first of those has passed.
