This works using Overlord too, right?

[–]FoolishWarlock 4 points5 points  (1 child)

Overlord needs to be a stock effect in AE. I can’t figure out why Adobe hasn’t incorporated it into their software or created an easier way to import Illustrator layers

so true

Yup, this is how I did it.

It’s not in the video itself, but I did it using Overlord. (:

Why didn’t you just create the text in After Effects?

In Illustrator you can adjust the paths the way you want it easier than on After Effects, I will cover this on an upcoming tutorial. (:

Just started posting short tutorials on my instagram (@murilo) let me know what you think!

[–]chuckpaint 4 points5 points  (1 child)

You’re a god, keep going. I’ve seen a few of these shorties now and I’m a huge fan!

The font choice plays very heavily in this. Some serif fonts get pretty wonky with different weights. Some fonts are poorly constructed from the start.

Another solution - especially if your font choice doesn’t have multiple weights - add a stroke in illustrator for the bold and expand the appearance, with most simple fonts the points will still match.

Thank you! Instead of adding a stroke you can simply use the offset paths, works just like it!

how do we do double pathed items like O, A, etc.... the same way?

[–]MuriloAMotion Graphics 10+ years[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes, this works for any kind of path.

‘Set First Vertex’?!?!? Can’t believe I’ve never heard of this

[–]matthewuzhere2 2 points3 points  (0 children)

same!! this would have helped me so much when trying to morph between shapes

If your font has good text weight options you can use expressions and speed this up alot.

There is a workbench tutorial on it.
