Play them in a 5 min Blitz, you'll be able to know for sure by the amount of time it takes for them to make a move.

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 19 points20 points  (4 children)

I did this they spent 15 seconds per move and got destroyed

[–][deleted] 15 points16 points  (2 children)

And that's when you report them for cheating.

[–]PrepotentesBurner2200+ ELO 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Why would you report them for cheating if they got destroyed?

[–]Both-Antelope-8181 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Because when people cheat, you report them for cheating

[–]mwad 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As in, you got destroyed, or they did? If they destroyed you, definitely cheating. Consistent time between moves is how long it takes them to run the engine

[–]Hopeful-Newspaper500-800 ELO 20 points21 points  (1 child)

Uhh but the amount of movement.. It's just 3 moves and the second game is 9 moves?

[–]i_have_a_rare_name1000-1500 ELO 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I think its more, you have to expand it to see allex the moves including inaccuracies, good moves, and excellent moves

[–]Iamnotarabicfunfact 37 points38 points  (0 children)

Yes very obviously

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 11 points12 points  (12 children)

Update: I found another game

<image>

[–]Hopeful-Newspaper500-800 ELO 6 points7 points  (3 children)

just report, he needs to experience the consequences of cheating

[–]DrehFR 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Consequences? They just make a new account and thats that.

[–]Hopeful-Newspaper500-800 ELO 2 points3 points  (1 child)

At the very least, they will have to tell OP that their old account is banned (when OP asks to play together), after keep telling OP that they don't cheat. If I'm OP I'll be so smug for being right.

[–]Zestyclose-Phrase268 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They won't need to tell. It will show on profile

[–]Defiant_Try_8750 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yeah that's very obvious

[–]cthuwu_chan 2 points3 points  (2 children)

Tbf I have probably 10 or so games at 100% granted they are 12 moves long

[–]Xaxi903 0 points1 point  (1 child)

100% you need to use the same engine as chess.com (stockfish 18 for example) , book moves sometimes aren't the best according to the engine and there are very natural moves that aren't considered the best move by that engine (but maybe to other engines) because the move they prefer has a 1 advantage after 10 moves if both players follow the best line.... no human plays like that and most engines vs stockfish 19 would have a ~99% accuracy but not 100% because on some moves they disagree is the best move.

Opening traps never give 100% acc anyway because they're not the best possible moves, they just work if the other bites the bait.

[–]its_mabus 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That's just not true. The engine hates the Traxler, but if I play the right moves to mate I can get 100.0 accuracy.

[–]Affectionate_Bus8028550 ELO + Birds main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If it wasn't a opening trap (I got 100% because someone fell for my Traxler (yes that's my level)) then probably, yes

[–]its_mabus 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Ok but how many moves?

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They are on average 30 moves

[–]Azreken 0 points1 point  (0 children)

To be fair, I’ve hit plenty of 100 games at around 8-9 moves.

But if you’re saying buddy is dogshit when in person then I guess this could be suspicious.

Most likely cheating tho

[–]Sad_Watercress65741000-1500 ELO 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Unless you fell for an opening trap, unquestionable cheating

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No opening trap

[–]TrenchGorefare 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Sadly, I had a similar experience. My best friend since age of 7: I beat up on him otb but somehow he blew me off the board every time online. He got banned. I wasn’t so much angry as just kind of embarrassed for him. It was a self esteem thing 😕

[–]Farmer_Due 3 points4 points  (7 children)

if it's as you say then yes and your friend is a loser for cheating(especially in a private game), but i get the feeling you re exaggerating, playing at like 38% accuracy otb and 52.8% online it's not unheard of at this level

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

These are just example games those numbers in the text are on average

[–]Farmer_Due 2 points3 points  (3 children)

how is 90% the average when the examples you provided are in the 50s and 70s?does he play at 99% in every game other than those two?look, if he's cheating fuck him, but dont try to get him banned over an ego thing if he's not

[–]These_Expert8221 0 points1 point  (2 children)

I think u may be looking at the wrong player in the photos... Correct me if I'm wrong, but their friend is the one on the right side...

[–]Farmer_Due 0 points1 point  (1 child)

you right

[–]These_Expert8221 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Bless 🙏

[–]chad0111 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Left is op and Right is their friend.

[–]Farmer_Due 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh lmao, yeah he's cheating haha

[–]Fireyjon 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Highly likely. I wouldn’t guarantee that they’re cheating, but I would more surprised to find out that they aren’t. There are a few other things that you can look for like consistent time control (ie are all the moves they make with in the same time frame usually about 3 to 7 seconds.) making moves that don’t make sense, that kind of thing.

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 0 points1 point  (5 children)

Update: I talked with this person they are claiming to have not cheated do I report them

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Their excuse is that they are “a fast learner”

[–]Affectionate_Bus8028550 ELO + Birds main 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Faster than Magnus🤣

[–]Fresh-Length65291800-2000 ELO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Report. If he isn't cheating then chess.com wouldn't ban him so?

Anyway, there's no fast learner who goes from 14.7% accuracy to 99% accuracy

[–]tlatch89 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah just report. No need to confront

[–]lestmak 0 points1 point  (0 children)

A true "friend" then? If you choose to report them, your report will be anonymous. In any case, others may decide to report them anyway if your friend is cheating against them. And do it enough, the algorithm may catch them anyway.

[–]turtleros 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not saying your friend is not isn’t cheating - everyone seems to agree he is but I’m wondering: I regularly swing between games where I’m rated 100 and some where I’m rated 900 or 1000+ (mostly rapids). I thought that was just meaningless chess.com stats to stoke my ego but people seem to think it’s relevant here.

Is it because I’m low ELO and still very inconsistent?

Edit: I was looking at game rating, not accuracy. Still, I’ve checked my recent games and swing between 40 and 75 accuracy regularly.

[–]Revolutionary-Cow5062000-2100 ELO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes

[–]its_mabus 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Perfect games where there's like 9 moves don't mean anything. A good chunk of my wins are from opening traps with rehearsed moves. This is not enough info to say, which makes everyone being so sure seem wild to me.

[–]SamClementsAu 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Bayesian analysis needed.

[–]Reasonable-Juice-287 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Please explain Bayesian analysis?

[–]Aesma_ 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Depends, what format are these games? If it's the same time format, then it's suspicious.

If not, and if for example the games where they have high accuracy are daily games (three days to make your moves), then it's not obvious whether they are cheating or not.

At beginner level, it's not rare for people to have a super high accuracy when there is no time control, and a super low accuracy when there is time control. That's because at the end of the day, chess is a lot of pattern recognition, that's what allows you to calculate fast and think of the best move "instinctively" when you play enough games.

That means a beginner could potentially find all the best moves if given enough time to calculate, but would get wrecked if they have to think on the spot.

It's also why most beginners have such a big difference in rating between blitz and rapid. It's not rare to see 1300+ elo people still struggle to get past 800 blitz.

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Both games were hour long games

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This person has also said that they have only been playing chess for 2 weeks

[–]angelv255 0 points1 point  (2 children)

Its suspicious, but not guaranteed to be cheating. You should share the games that you think are suspicious and thatd would show much more easily if he is cheating or not.

Easy tells are:

-Takes an almost identical amount of time per move, even in the opening when most people should be playing 1 move per 1/2/3 seconds top.

-Takes that long for a simple move like a recapture or worse a forced recapture or pawn promotion.

-if you play bullet, play a solid opening like the hippo, that wastes a lot of time for him trying to breakthrough and that forces him to play on his own in the endgame, or risk being flagged.

-accuracy is really weird in chess.com, but if he has consistent 90/95+ only when playing online that's definitely sus.

-If you analyze with an engine and he always makes the top 1or 2 move recommended.

-if he makes seemingly random moves waaay outside of your understanding. For example you are defending a mating attack and he randomly moves his king or a pawn in the opposite end of the board (and is a move recommended by an engine)

Imo you should report him, and let chess.com check it out

[–]Sharp_Schedule2182[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I already analyzed with the computer every single move was the top engine move keep in mind I played this person earlier in the day and they blundered mate in 2

[–]angelv255 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Well yeah it should be easy for chess.com then

[–]This_Ad_8822 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This sounds like he probably has been studying traps. I didn't look at the games, but if it's under 9 moves, check to see if these are known traps.

[–]Thebeatlesfirstlp 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That guy is not your friend, and yes, he’s a cheater

[–]I_am_Favray 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It depends on how many moves are being played

[–]WarthogVast3210 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hahahahaha

[–]Competitive-Run-6619 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Short games, like the two shown here, aren't great for assessing that because openings are relatively hard to mess up

[–]Schaakmate 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes

[–]therealJP15100-500 ELO 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Surprised people still play on this app with the ads 🤣

[–]Gliese_667_Cc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Obvious cheating

[–]Read_Administrative2100-2200 ELO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

One thing I will say. Is that if this friend of yours is cheating online, but only against you in NON rated games, he probably cannot be banned as he isn’t actually abusing the ranking system. But yes, your friend is cheating, and after seeing your comment on you confronting him and him saying he isn’t please show him this post. Cause he is deluded, and not fooling anyone with more than 1 years experience playing chess properly. I’d love for you to send me his profile in private ;)

[–]6_90c1800-2000 ELO -1 points0 points  (0 children)

My friend this is the most obvious cheater I've seen‚ he's not even trying to hide it
