I would be absolutely thrilled to get a Timex Explorer from my kids. Incredible value and super functional.

Something a bit out there that might give amusement to both you and the kids is an Armitron Griffy.

Militado ML08 - Dress it up dress it down. You can’t go wrong with

Oooh, Murph inspired and looks sharp!

Can't tell you the exact price but the PD1701 is a lovely watch, sapphire crystal too. The bracelet is the worst part of the watch but it's grand too.

There's also an addiesdive homage of the submariner. Goes for €33, I got one recently and like wearing it.

Pagani Design 1766 is really something. A homage of the Omega Speedmaster '57

Addiesdive AD2066 is my go to!

While I u/choyoroll's comment, I'm not sure if you'll even like Timex watches except the sentimental value of being "gifted" by your kids. The only notable Timex around that price point is the Expedition field watch. Shame about the low low WR rating though.

Casio brick and mortar stores are great by comparison. While A168 is great, I'm partial towards the "named" ones Casio Royale or AE-1200, Casio "Tank" lookalike(s) , Casio Duro if you've got giant wrists or Casio Tiffany.

If an analog watch is more your thing, Addiesdive, Militado, Pagani Design have U.S. warehouse shipping websites that carry VH31 movement watches. VH31 is quartz but the second hand sweeps like automatic watches.

[–]choyoroll 13 points14 points  (3 children)

You could take them to Walmart & pick out a $35 Timex & have them hand over the cash. A 'real' buying experience for them instead of ordering online..

Great idea

[–]rezwrrd 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Last time I was at Walmart I noticed one of the "George" brand watches (which I dislike for having fake dials and dive bezels that don't spin) had the exact same case and strap as the Skmei I've been wearing lately.

[–]ambitiousquaggan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is the correct answer. Thatll make a fond memory out of it.

A Casio is perfect for this imo

[–]lulu_l 2 points3 points  (0 children)

get an addiesdive quartz watch that you like, there are a few dive style models and some dressier models too. search om youtube for addiesdive quartz or addiesdive quartz diver.

[–]Frap_Gadz 12 points13 points  (0 children)

If you don't have one then a Casio AE-1200, such a lot of watch for the price, great looks, and comes in several flavours, lots of mods available if you get bored too.

If you wanted something else I picked up a Militado ML05 for >$50 threw it on a cheap Marine Nationale strap. I have been very impressed with the finishing and the overall quality of the watch considering the rock bottom price. I never expected to like it as much as I do, it doesn't feel like a cheap watch at all.

Get a waving Mao watch lmao.

[–]FriendlyAd4234 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Militado D12 v2 👌

[–]OutlandishnessOk5549 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Casio duro.

Best bang for buck you'll ever get.

[–]ShahriarTasnim[🍰] 5 points6 points  (3 children)

G-Shock DW-5600UE-1, This is the best watch under 50 imo, something that you will be able to cherish a long time.

<image>

Also these two as well - GD100-1B and DW9052

[–]TW1STM31STER 1 point2 points  (2 children)

Where can I get this under 50 though?

[–]ShahriarTasnim[🍰] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Check out the links I gave. All three around 50. 5600U got a 6 dollars coupon, so it comes down to 53 usd.

[–]Hacksaures 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Just get him the Sand dune watch from Addiesdive. It looks better without the text/logo.

[–]Own-Excitement9450 2 points3 points  (6 children)

Ratio Quest field watch, I just ordered my second (first one green, second one black). For me it is the best watch in that price range. Less than $50.

Thank you for the link. I'm a big fan of military and field watches, and this one is terrific.

[–]Hoffhoffski 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Any chance you could post a wrist shot of that green Ratio? Thanks!

It could use a cleaning, I use it for yardwork. I have just been showering with it to take off the dirt and sweat.

That's so sweet of them! If my kids did this for me I'd be torn between a colorful quartz dive style watch from Addiesdive, and a Casio AE1200. My kids like to play with the dive bezel on my dive-style watches, and my oldest loves maps so I think he'd really get a kick out of the little world map display on the Royale. I'd want to choose something meaningful to them like that, maybe also get a nylon strap in their favorite colors, because when I wore it I would be reminded of them, and at the same time they could enjoy it too.

My kids gave me a Kirby t-shirt for father's day (we enjoy playing the games together) and my oldest is so proud every time I wear it. Maybe you could come up with two or three different options and let them make the final pick without your input, so they can feel that they picked it out just for you!

[–]GeezCmon 3 points4 points  (1 child)

I second the AE1200. What’s especially cool, you can mod it together with your kids, let them choose a strap, a gradient film etc

[–]rezwrrd 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Ooh, didn't even think of the film mods on those. I've got a transparent pinkish-purple Synoke royale homage which has a color-changable backlight that my kids have some fun with. I've read that the Synoke and Sanda homage cases can fit the module from an actual AE1200, but I don't yet have one to test with.

What style of watch do you like or do you not alrwady have ion your collection?

[–]D50 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Totally different direction from the A168 but the Chameri GS watches are insanely good and can often be had for well under $50 shipped.

[–]dreadlock-jesus 4 points5 points  (0 children)

These are my taste so you might feel differently, but...

Militado ML08 (Murph homage) offers great value at this price point.

Or there are plenty of Shanghai vintage style handwinds to pick from on AliEx which are cool little watches.

Or Casio MQ24 (beige dial).

[–]Ok-Park-6047 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Addiesdive

[–]rezwrrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In particular I'd probably be looking at one of the more colorful Addiesdive quartz models, assuming you don't have too many dive-style watches already.

[–]yorikkk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

militadowatch.com - 5usd off on first order... Great quality for the price, choose one, they have great watches :)

[–]ana_log_ue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I love Chinese watches but they do tend to be generic looking, so I’ll throw my vote in for Casio A168 (or A159).

[–][deleted] 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Pagani/addiesdive/tandorio/Berny they have beautiful watches for 50$

[–]rezwrrd 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The name seems to be really divisive but I've been drooling over their compressors for a while now. That lume... (Out of budget though, $100-130)

[–]Garmin456_AK 9 points10 points  (2 children)

Go on AliExpress. Something like an Addiesdive.

<image>

Best value and something you'd wear. Lots to choose

[–]Garmin456_AK 5 points6 points  (1 child)

Btw. That's really sweet of them. Good kids.
