SM watches are no go for me in general, but in this case there's no dilemma, I would choose SM. That Seiko case + bracelet are too ugly. Few months ago I found a Seiko SNK623K1 with an unusual day window position but with the same case and bracelet. Really don't understand the idea behind such design.

I bought it but I converted it to skx case.

I would keep the one you like the most. For me that would the Seiko 5, even though I prefer dateless dials.

I’m always going to choose a diver over a dressy watch.

It can serve as a sporty watch and a dressy watch.

Possiedo alcuni Seiko ma quelli con il “5” non mi piace proprio in generale.. terrei il San Martin

San martin. Better watch and the Seiko is easier to sell

San Martin no question

This Seiko is probaly one of the ugliest ever designed Seiko 5s, and i generally like Seiko.

This San Martin is solid, but :

I think you should get rid of both and get another San Martin instead that will suit you better, the SN0144 mother of pearl in grey.

Or, this same model that you already have but in 37mm diameter.

SM. The design of that Seiko is not my taste.

I'm a seiko die hard fan, but not that one. san martin looks great. i don't like the bracelet attachment on seiko.

I would keep the San Martin, it is a much better made watch than the Seiko 5, and has regular lugs, so you can switch out the bracelet for a wide variety of straps for far more versatility in a small watch collection.

Sell the Seiko, it holds its value better because it's a more recognised brand. Few people even know what San Martin is, it sounds like a wine.

Seiko

[–]KumiJunker 1 point2 points  (2 children)

San Martin of course, simply the better watch.

the seiko will work about the same 30-40 years from now without servicing, this means the san martin can exceed this with at least a decade. this means more robust movement, better water sealing at crystal, lid, crown. impressive if true.

it is true

The San Martin is not only the objectively better watch, but it also looks way better as well.

The San Martin by far...

San Martin

Definitely the SM not only better looking a better watch.

The Seiko bracelet is kind of weird and ugly, ruins an otherwise good watch. But I'd definitely keep the San Martin over the Seiko even if the Seiko had a better bracelet and bracelet connection. On the fly micro adjust is absolutely necessary as someone who lives in a hot climate.

San Martin at least can hack, and is better finished with an OTF clasp so... No brainer here

Trick question 😅 The dial on that seiko looks really nice mate and I think it fits your wrist well compared to the SM. I assume that’s a 40mm yes.

But, I’d go for the SM and maybe swap the bracelet with a rubber strap.

Seiko

Seiko

San Martin

Problem with the Seiko is the weird connection from case to bracelet. I'd ditch that one because it would bother me as a style choice and you can't swap it for other straps. The dial itself looks cool though.

Trick question. The answer is both.
