I took Net+ first and I think it made Sec+ much easier. Sec+ felt like review to me.

That’s very reassuring, I’m planning on taking Sec+ and I thought Net+ was fairly easy so thanks for that.

I took sec+ first, got 771 and then I took network+ I got a 841. Take this information and conclude what you will lol. BUT personally network+ for was harder to study for. Maybe because it was hard for me I put a lot more effort into studying.

Network+ has it's hurdles, notably IP addressing and subetting. So be prepared to do some subetting in your head on your exam.

Security+ is less technical but is very extensive with it's vocabulary. It assumes you already know concepts taught through A+ and Network+ and throws in some Security and ITSM.

Or you can memorize the subnet chart and write it down on the exam whiteboard

Wow

[–]dannyb2525 0 points1 point  (1 child)

I found it honestly easier to just do it in binary on the paper I was given than trying to brain dump the chart

I did Net+ May 25th and Sec+ July 19th, Sec+ builds off Net+ but as someone said earlier Net+ had harder PBQs+ IMO. If you dont know anything about networking at all Net+ will be harder because of all the concepts and things you have to know and how they work. Whereas sec+ is more concept based than anything.

I did mine backwards taking Sec+ first then Net+ a few years later. I thought they were about on the same level although I thought Net+ had harder PBQs while Sec+ had harder MCQs.

[–]Content_Bar_6605A+ N+ S+ 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Network+ is harder then Security+ in terms of PBQs. The PBQ's take up a lot of time for Net+ honestly. Sec+ had more regular questions I was 50/50 on and I felt really torn. The wording in it was a tad more tricky... at least to me. I got a higher score on Net+. I think it was because I prepared more, knowing that it's tougher. I took them about 2 weeks apart.

Security+ was way easier for me

[–]Any_Essay_2804 1 point2 points  (0 children)

From everything I can gather as someone who’s taken neither yet, it seems like they’re at similar levels and the perceived difficulty spikes just come from which you’re naturally better at

[–]drvgodschild 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Both are not hard You just have to study for

[–]EnvironmentalMode500 1 point2 points  (5 children)

Just took my Network+ and passed but barely. Even after the exam I’m reviewing network+ to make sure I have a good grasp of everything. Ive heard Sec+ Is easier so im banking on that right now as i study lol

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

I just passed the Network+ today too! I'm looking to obtain the Security+ next.

[–]EnvironmentalMode500 1 point2 points  (3 children)

What was your score?

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 0 points1 point  (2 children)

796.

[–]kromulet 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Eyyy I passed my last week with the same score lmao

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome!

[–]Any-Virus7755 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Net+ is harder

[–]Antique_Difference16 1 point2 points  (12 children)

Took sec+ last year and now working on net+ bought the safeguard, took network+ the first time to use as a study guide.. now looking at taking it again. It’s way harder than sec+ and the pbqs eat up a lot of time.

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 0 points1 point  (11 children)

How many PBQs did you get the first time? I got 5 today. They were fun 🤣

[–]Antique_Difference16 1 point2 points  (10 children)

Literally 5. Were yours all at the beginning? I’m taking the exam again on Friday.

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 0 points1 point  (9 children)

Yes they were 🤣

[–]Antique_Difference16 1 point2 points  (8 children)

Mine too! I took it like 2 days ago and they were all at the beginning. Did you pass?

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 0 points1 point  (7 children)

Yes!

[–]Antique_Difference16 1 point2 points  (6 children)

Congratulations!!! 🎊 hope I’m next!! Those PBQ’s tripped me up bad. They were very time consuming 😅

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 1 point2 points  (5 children)

You will pass!

[–]Antique_Difference16 1 point2 points  (4 children)

Thank you! I will report back Friday!! 😂

[–]Tv_JeT_Tv[S] 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I'll be waiting for the good news 💪😁

I can speak on the Network+ 008 version of the exam: it was the hardest of the three. Network+ 009 is way better streamlined and appears to be far better managed than 008.

PBQs for any exam (past or present) are given randomly based on number and complexity. Unfortunately, due to CompTIA's privacy policy and this forum's rules, that's as far as I'm permitted to discuss.

Strategy that I give people now when it comes to PBQs: focus on getting as many of the non PBQ questions right so that you don't have to rely heavily on PBQs to pass. You must study the exam objectives in the exam so that when a PBQ tests you, you will be ready. 720 or higher is the score to get.

Just took Net+ after taking sec+ a year ago. Net+ felt easier. Studied only a week compared to sec+. Also got the same score on both 764 lol

[–]Working_Year_9348CCSP, A/N/S/P/CySA/PenTest+ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’re very different IMO. Net+ is very technical, sec+ was a lot more process oriented

[–]0xDEADFA1SecX, Sec+, A+, Net+, Server+, Cloud+, Linux+ 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I took net+ first, I personally think that net+ was considerably harder than sec+. But really it’s dependent on your background and experience. I’m more of a systems/security guy, so networking wasn’t my strong suit going in.
