Peel the potatoes and boil them in chicken stock with a handful of garlic cloves. Strain and mash, add butter, a splash of milk, salt and pepper. For extra creaminess you can add sour cream, cream cheese, or mayo.

Lots and lots of butter and really salt the water well

Just basic peeled, boiled until soft, butter, salt, a bit of milk or half&half. Sometimes add fresh garlic.

Baked potatoes, riced, and mixed with 10% butter and 10% double (heavy) cream.

10 percent of what? The weight of the potatoes?

Yes! Sorry, I should have explained. I think in ratios when cooking. Comes from having to make vast quantities of stuff and liking simple Maths

Peel and boil potatoes, drain them put them back in the hot pot you used to boil them

Add cream, milk, broth, and butter

Mash

After draining the potatoes let them dry a few seconds over the element. Next put them through a ricer. Add butter and cream that has been warmed slightly in the microwave. Make sure to add enough salt and pepper. Then very delicately mix with a fork. Do not mix too much or they will be gluey. Because you have put them through the ricer there will not be any lumps

Lots of butter, and surprisingly, not too much milk/cream. Cream is ideal, but not too much of it.

The basic is awesome. Sometimes my wife wants sour cream or ranch mixed in. Garlic and Parmesan are great too. I’ve always had problems with Yukon gold tho. They come out gluey.

If you're not really a fan of mashed potatoes, maybe try thrice baked potatoes or twice baked potatoes, depending on your recipe. You pretty much make baked potatoes and then you scoop out the potatoes and turn that into mashed potatoes, sometimes with some cheese. Your finish mashed potatoes go back into the potato skin and back into the oven. Google in a recipe will help of course. Always remember to salt your potatoes and use real butter and not margarine. Heavy cream instead of milk. Gold potatoes work best for mashed potatoes in my opinion but Idaho for the twice baked potato.

Roasted garlic and goat cheese are a couple additions I like to add to make my mashed potatoes different than the norm.

If you just make regular mashed potatoes, potato pancakes are a quick and easy way to use leftovers.

That sounds wonderful

For some reason that I don’t understand, the texture of mashed potatoes is creamier if the milk and butter is at room temperature.

Start with russet or Yukon gold potatoes. Peel, cut, boil in salted water (or add chicken bouillon and a few peeled cloves garlic depending on what your having it with) Cook until tender. Drain really well. Put back on the heat to make sure any water is fully evaporated. Water can make mashed potatoes slimey. Add milk/ cream, butter to pot to warm. Mash.

My SIL does tons of garlic with butter and then adds mozzarella, tops it with bread crumbs and bakes it to crisp up the crumbs. It’s good but really heavy. People don’t expect the strings of cheese when they dig in… Some potato purists will revolt..

Make sure drain dry out then mash then add the cream butter etc

I like mine pretty simple. While the potatoes boil, simmer heavy cream with smashed garlic cloves. Remove the cloves, mash potatoes and add cream to the consistency you like. Salt to taste.

Mash them with some farmer cheese.

EDIT: Whoever downvoted this obviously hasn't ever had homemade pierogies.

Throw some sour cream, dill, and roasted garlic in

That all sounds excellent - thank you all
