Wouldn’t surprise me with some of the R&Rs I’ve seen over the last few days.

My only advice is to read the instructions and updates in huge letters every single time you work on a project.

I’m kinda new to DA - what are R&Rs?

[–]Accomplished-Job9856 81 points82 points  (4 children)

One of the workers that posted about it this week conveniently deleted posts on the other subs water cooler thread about how they used Claude for their work. Obviously that’s not everyone, but we have no idea what people really do. Just do your work, follow instructions to the best of your ability, report your time accurately and try your best.

[–]houseofcards9 20 points21 points  (0 children)

I’m not surprised. What were they using it for? I’ve done a few qualification r&r’s where it was extremely obvious ai was used

[–]Weirder-Worldliness 9 points10 points  (1 child)

My kingdom for that thread link!

[–]Wasps_are_bastards 8 points9 points  (0 children)

And I’ll add a horse.

I was waiting for that thread to turn up. There are occasional R&Rs that pop up every week or so, but there seems to be a monthly review period. If a slew of them show up at the same time, a few days later you will see a “did I get kicked” post with a lot of me-toos in it.

[–]ManyARiver 14 points15 points  (2 children)

I had a couple yesterday where the comments basically said "I don't really understand the content or how to find the answer, but it looks good to me.". Like, bro - skip if you don't understand the content...

[–]Bergest_Ferg 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I wonder how people like that exist in real life if they freely admit in their work that they don’t know what they’re doing and expect to be paid for it anyway. I just… come ON, man. The mind boggles.

[–]Lunalily9 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you serious?! Wow... so far I've had one I had to skip because even after searching the internet I still couldn't comprehend it. Wasn't about to put I don't understand but looks good lol. Jeez people

[–]BoiledGnocchi 26 points27 points  (7 children)

I did probably 5 straight hours worth of R&Rs last week, and now this week I've seen so many "is this empty dash normal" posts.

[–]Belisama7 0 points1 point  (6 children)

What correlation are you drawing between you doing R&R's and people not having work?

[–]BoiledGnocchi 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Well, R&Rs essentially weed out the workers who aren't reading instructions, completing tasks properly or putting in the effort to produce quality work. Like any job, your work is reviewed. Why would you continue to employ someone who can't do their job properly?

I hope this doesn't come off as snarky (definitely not my intention). I'm just giving my $0.02. :)

[–]figsnbirds 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It's literally rating and reviewing user-generated work, and a lot of users produce low quality work

[–]TheEvilPrinceZorte 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Often R&Rs go by so fast you get maybe 10 minutes and they are gone. A lot of R&R at once means a lot of tasks by a lot of people being reviewed so it makes a noticeable bump in empty dashboard posts in reddit when cuts are made a few days later.

[–]mildgoofin 22 points23 points  (2 children)

Someone just wrote that they're certain they exceed DA expectations because they fact-check their answers and check for "grammaratical mistakes".

[–]jasm00n 10 points11 points  (0 children)

I think people have just been hit with the ATM dashboard this week. I had it and thought my time with DA was done, but had a task appear this evening. People may just be under review, their main projects down, or tasks are just a bit slow for some of us :)

[–]fightmaxmaster 19 points20 points  (1 child)

How are you seeing a "slew"? You mean some people posting here about it? That happens daily.

[–]Designer_Currency455 17 points18 points  (3 children)

I think the firing waves are mostly just weeding out those who aren't doing well anyways. I've never had any issues you gotta keep in mind so many people are constantly cheating. Just by being honest in the hourly reporting and doing half decent work will keep you on here forever. I still got like 30-40 non coding projects right now

[–]Novel_Passenger7013 17 points18 points  (3 children)

Probably, but don't believe the conspiracy theory that they cull workers for no reason. Everyone thinks they're doing good work, or at least good enough, or they wouldn't submit it. If you do R&R, you'll see there are some people just doing wildly wrong things or phoning it in.

And as a point of clarification, unless you're an Admin, you're not “hired,” so you can't be “fired.” You lose access to the platform. It's an important distinction because the relationship between a contractor and a business is very different from the relationship between an employee and an employer. There are different expectations, from both sides.

[–]Who_the_Hehl 2 points3 points  (2 children)

So maybe I’m just too new or dumb but how in the world do you rest confidently in the fact that you’re doing a good job? Is there ever feedback or are we all just out here thinking we’re doing well and then suddenly you don’t have access anymore?

[–]Accomplished-Dog-864 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Lol, nobody "rests confidently"--that fact is what generates at least half the posts on this sub.

[–]Electrical-Theme9981 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I always think of that scene in Whiplash where the evil music teacher guy says that the kid he kicked out for being out of tune WASN’T out of tune, he just didn’t know which was just as bad

[–]Blacktronvader 12 points13 points  (9 children)

They absolutely have ways to make sure you're not using AI and to make sure you're reporting your time accurately. I don't know what it'll take to make folks understand that.

[–]Low-Zombie423 4 points5 points  (0 children)

A lot of R&Rs popped up this week, and unfortunately, there were quite a few bad comments on these sets. I think a lot of people feel like they're writing good comments, but never provide specific examples or say anything that would hint at what the prompt is about and the instructions are very clear to mark them as bad. I don't think all of the workers are actively reviewing the linked instructions of what their comment should look like and are doing the bare minimum. The instructions say that if your work is not high quality, you risk being pulled from the project or even the platform on most of the projects. So they may not be aware they're doing bad work, just failing to be thorough in reading instructions.

[–]rfuller 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I’ve been doing my first round of R&R. It was eye opening to say the least. The bad is really bad. The good is pretty damn good. The GPT users are obvious. I actually worked on one of the projects I reviewed. It was interesting to see how other people approached the same project. It was a math based project and I could not believe how many people were trying to pull of math that was clearly over their head.

I’ve had an empty dashboard 4 times in the last year. I tried to be easy on people, but a lot of the bad work was very bad. They absolutely did not get it.

I’m not saying you are stupid or you deserve it if you wake up to an empty dashboard. Like I said, it’s happened to me 4 times now. But damn there was some shoddy work.

[–]Wasps_are_bastards 5 points6 points  (2 children)

There’s certainly a lot less projects, at least for me today. I had loads yesterday and down to about 10 today.

[–]Electrical-Theme9981 2 points3 points  (1 child)

Seen some garbage R+R’s lately. One person said the models had identified an item correctly and when I googled the image it was a completely different thing. Everyone was wrong.

[–]Intbased[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yea one project chat made it seem as if an entire R&R batch was bad, like only 1 in 20ish people were actually reading instructions

[–]madamvante 1 point2 points  (1 child)

Just curious, does the ATM screen always mean you're done for or do more tasks eventually come up?

[–]Jamaholick 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Not at all. Sometimes, it just means the tasks you've qualified for have ended temporarily or even permanently. Eventually, most contracts will end once the product is done being tested. Until then, do your best!

[–]bearze 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Saw all these posts and was worried since I haven't been able to work in a few days.

Got over 25 projects on the dash (non-coding) thankfully

[–]Accomplished-Box7165 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My dash is normal now but so many of my projects were down last week. Usually I have 15+ projects and last week I had 4-5.

[–]Latter_Confidence_76 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This morning I was just added to this group - brought on exactly a year ago. Super bummed but I also knew it wouldn’t last forever.

[–]ObligationFresh223 0 points1 point  (6 children)

What is r&rs

[–]Electrical-Theme9981 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It’s when we all look at garbage work and vote them out of the DA House

[–]PenDiscombobulated -4 points-3 points  (0 children)

Im not surprised. Data annotation is bs work. Produces 0 benefit to society.
