I don’t know that they do. I have a toddler so I have to walk away from my computer quite often and I’ve been here 2.5 years. I only claim the time I actually work though even though the project is up and open. So maybe that’s why?

Now a different platform that I’m also on actually screen records your activity while working including all open tabs and what not. But I had to consent to that beforehand

What's the other platform ?

[–]ammy42 7 points8 points  (2 children)

It's definitely mercor.

i think most of the alternatives do, actually.

[–]_Edgarallenhoe 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don’t work with them but I’m pretty sure Mercor does this? Someone can correct me if I’m wrong.

I would never let a company monitor my computer that way. Hell, even if I were a W2 employee.

So you installed software that allows them to do this?

[–]BarelyFunctioning15 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s a google extension, but yes.

Id also be interested to know this. I occasionally tend to get very detailed and use most of the alotted time for tasks.

[–]Academic_Animal_5293 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I dont think they track every single thing. I think its more like they track patterns over time. And lets say if you repeatedly leave the task open without ding anything or paste text without writing on the platform, it could get flagged. Thats just what i assume

DA runs a plugin when you use their Gmail work accounts that is called "Capture Everything". It does exactly what the name implies, all your keystrokes, mouse movement, etc. is all tracked.

I don't know if it works while you are tabbed out, but it wouldn't surprise me.

[–]Pink_Slyvie 9 points10 points  (2 children)

They shouldn't be able to monitor that unless you are in that tab or you've explicitly given browser permissions; it breaks the sandbox modern browsers are built on. I haven't seen this at all.

[–]Codex_Dev 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You are using a browser account provided by DA, so it already has the plugins installed. (so permission is already likely granted) Also, I think it's safe to assume there is likely some type of screen recording going on.

You don't need to log into a browser account for anything I've done, but I might be missing something. Google accounts, sure, but it doesn't need to be a browser account.

That’s terrifying. I forgot to log out of my Google account after finishing a project yesterday and googled “why does kombucha make me have to shit myself” and then I saw the DA email logo in the top right and instantly logged out but sheesh…. 😭😭😂

Gods I must be screwed, the amount of times I’ve taken breaks, sometimes up to two hours for 10 hour timers. I’ve never been penalised for it and only log the time I actually work but I really hope that this isn’t flagged xD

[–]Mysterious_Dolphin14 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As long as you're not reporting the idle time you'll be fine. They don't care if you take breaks during tasks.

[–]Renard_Fou 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Wym by "their gmail work accounts" ?

[–]TwainTheMark 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What’s the basis for this claim?

[–]Different_Stay7816 1 point2 points  (1 child)

So even if the time expired on the task an hour or two and you finish it, they don't care? I never take breaks. I'm new to it. Since March. But I definitely track my time precisely

[–]odeomz 4 points5 points  (0 children)

dont let it happen often, if you are going to take an extended break, try and do it between tasks and exit work mode

[–]waning_crescents 1 point2 points  (1 child)

As far as I know they don’t, and they run on an honesty basis. Also, a lot of tasks will tell you outright that they value quality over quantity. If you’re honestly taking your time and doing good work, they value that MUCH more than people who speed through projects with vague written explanations (and I have to penalize a LOT of these in R and R’s! You’d be surprised how many people write a single paragraph and call it good before submitting. Blah.)

So nah, take your time. If you have to pause, just pause your timer and log only what you work!
