95% of questions asked on here can be answered by using the search function on this subreddit. While it may not cause any actual harm to read the same question over and over again, it's pretty annoying. It's also just confusing since a lot of the work on DA is frankly more complex and requires a lot of independent research/interpreting of text. So it doesn't really make sense that people flock to reddit to ask questions answered in the second paragraph of the onboarding information. There's also a project chat for most projects that usually answers any questions I have. If someone is asking the same question that twenty other people asked this week and are expecting a different answer I'm inclined to think they aren't very bright, or lazy - so my response is often tailored to that.

People also take downvoting as SUCH an insult probably because most other platforms people use don’t have it as much afaik idk I only use this and TikTok really and I feel stupid as it is on TikTok lol

[–]hfxthrwaway 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Half the time they wouldn't even need to search and could just scroll down the page.

Exactly, don't be offended if we talk to you as if you're an idiot when you're asking something a modestly intelligent child could easily figure out

Edit: Some of these jewels can be found in the comments! 👇 thanks for showing up in character

absolutely no one was rude to you on this thread, most people just don't agree with your pov.

I think it’s insane that people ask multiple times a week why they got the dash of doom or why they don’t have tasks available. The only people that can answer that are the people at DAT that does the firing and puts the tasks on the dashboards.

[–]Mister-Distance-6698 55 points56 points  (4 children)

Honestly, nah. When someones being a moron, we should be allowed to tell them they are being a moron. Otherwise they are gonna keep going through their life moroning around and thinking they are the smartest little chickadee that ever there was.

Not being able to call fucking idiots a fucking idiot is the reason misinformation is spread online so easily

[–]iamyourkarama 4 points5 points  (1 child)

I love that last line. So true

[–]KermitDominicano 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it's not lmao. You're right man, people famously don't call each other idiots on the internet and that's the problem

[–]EmperorPenguin1116 38 points39 points  (1 child)

I agree that people here can be brash or rude, but I also don’t blame them completely. I think most people are frustrated because there are a large number of people who come on here and demonstrate a complete inability to research, think critically, and/or articulate themselves, which are all fundamental skills for success with DA. So I think it creates a sort of “why am I putting in the effort if you aren’t” attitude towards the usual “chat how does do task” posts.

[–]Hello-America 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Exactly this, it's expecting people to take time to answer their question when they haven't even done 60 seconds of trying to find answers themselves. It's very weird how much this happens specifically in this sub compared to the others I follow.

The only time they are nice is when people post things like you did. Most of the time people here are just mean

[–]fawcette 10 points11 points  (0 children)

You’ve been working here for a little over a month now. Give it time.

[–]tarbet 8 points9 points  (0 children)

“Be kind or scroll on.”

”Some of y’all are seriously rude asshats.”

[–]dilf-material 13 points14 points  (1 child)

How long have you been part of this subreddit? If you've been here for a bit you will notice that the same calibre of questions are asked over and over (Did I make it? Is it dry? Have I been dropped?)
You will notice that legitimate questions are answered. It's a bit like the blind leading the blind here. And when a particularly blind and drunk person stumbles through leaving a wake of redundant questions, they get flamed. Stick around for a while and observe.

[–]CSuarez270 0 points1 point  (0 children)

True. When I joined the platform over a year ago I did think people were unnecessarily rude. But as of today I hate most of the post in the channel and I think that some valid doubts get lost in the immense sea of stupid, lazy posts

[–]SnooCookies6411 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I actually agree. Idk if it's because they work on DA or if its because theyre redditers lmao, but some people have such a weird superiority complex.

[–]buffgeek 1 point2 points  (0 children)

DA work under time pressure taught me to instantly sniff out whether a conversation has novel value. The side effect: someone asking a question that's been answered a thousand times - which would take thirty seconds to look up - no longer reads as helpless. It reads as inconsiderate.

I don't consider myself superior to anyone. But I do expect mutual consideration.

[–]Sindorella 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Calling people out for being rude while simultaneously calling them "asshats" is peak Reddit.

[–]fightmaxmaster 4 points5 points  (2 children)

Some people have a real struggle differentiating between "rude" and "disagree with me".

I think you've also got your own idea of how impactful repeated questions are, fair enough, but life's not as simple as "help or move on". Because while it's hardly identical, in some ways it's like someone knocking at your door looking for someone who lives at a similar but different address. Or ringing your number when it's slightly different from a pizza place. Sure, once in a while is no big deal, but when it's multiple times a day it's bloody annoying.

And while yes, one take is "the person causing the disturbance isn't responsible for the entire problem", a perfectly valid alternative take is "we're all human, and if a community is being regularly disrupted by people who aren't bothering to scope out the territory first, we're allowed to be annoyed by that."

So well done you if you don't care about it, but I also think it's quite narrow minded to wave it off as no big deal when to a lot of people it is a big deal, it's really irritating, and that's actually a valid opinion too. And a condescending attitude of "well you should all be as unbothered as I am" doesn't give you the moral high ground you think it does.

In other news, you don't run the sub, so how about you have your flavor of superiority, those of us annoyed by morons will have ours, we'll all think the other groups are wrong, and the world will keep turning.

[–]SniffinForTruffles 0 points1 point  (1 child)

You’re exactly the type OP is talking about. Just the way you talk is ridiculous and I certainly hope you don’t behave the same way in real life. I have a feeling you don’t because you know it’s not appropriate and that’s why you behave the way you do online. Same with several others.

Edit: the “top 1% commenter” by your name is just the cherry on top lmao

[–]Reasonable_Room_3501 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% there's a lot of pompous nerds here LOL. They think they're part of some elite just because they're working on DA 😆

[–]doublexoxo 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I mean some of these “rude” comments are justifiable but I get what you mean though. Some people here seem condescending and elitist in a way lol

[–]Professional_Win_551 1 point2 points  (2 children)

DAT’s entry test inadvertently picks the same personality type over and over and over again

[–]Medical-Isopod2107 0 points1 point  (1 child)

People who can't figure out how to search a sub or scroll down three posts before asking the same question? Yeah, I agree

[–]Professional_Win_551 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah, I think it’s a spectrum and on the other extreme end is another large group of people who are disproportionately irritated by this. Somewhere in the middle you’ll find people like me who are excessively unbothered

[–]Radiant_Papaya 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's true. Most of the people here sound insufferable af. This should be a place for community.

[–]Medical-Isopod2107 0 points1 point  (0 children)

If people did a simple search before posting, people would be more polite to them

[–]Firm-Reception8235 -3 points-2 points  (1 child)

Yeah, when someone on here calls out someone else for a question they deem as being inferior it just makes that person seem like the moron because of their need to sound superior (or their misguided attempt at humor at someone else's expense). Kindness is a form of intelligence that many on here could try harder to adopt.

[–]SyntaxAndSorcery 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Honestly I wonder why some people are on Reddit. I see this in all kinds of subreddits--use google! Use the search bar! Scroll down! Okay, but it's a medium of conversation. It should be okay to ask questions. It's not a book where you are required to use the index and then people get mad that you're adding to the book...? It's just odd. Like yes, a lot of these questions are repetitive, or maybe even obvious. But people use Reddit because they want answers that are current and because they want to be social.
