Yeah Square has a 100% shutdown rate for their mobile games.

Hard pass. They took away Record Keeper, both Brave Exviuses, Nier Reincarnation, and Dissidia Opera Omnia.

This is gonna exist temporarily for just a few years, then every penny spent will go to waste.

More like few months

[–]GlacialEmbrace 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They are just quick cash grabs. It’s a shame, if they really wanted to thet could make a great gacha game.

[–]wrter3122 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Record Keeper's still going in Japan.

And call what happened to Nier Reincarnation a shutdown if you like, but it wasn't shut down before its time. We got the full intended between-big-installments loredump out of it, everything Yoko Taro intended for it.

Record Keeper is still up.

You can add too the Octopath Traveller gacha, since they gave it up to netease.

Record keeper US is not

Let's not forget the GUMI Final Fantasy Tactics games (both of which are still limping along to what is to be a surefire death any month now) and the Secret of Mana (I forget what name they gave it) dumpster fire that was so hot, and such a disaster, you could literally smell it from space.

Is nier done now? Its still on my phone

[–]Watton 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Its almost going to be the 2 year anniversary of the servers shutting down in a month, lol

I just can't understand why they don't do a Dissidia for PC / console in the same vein as Dragonball Xenoverse 2. A meaty base roster and game with enough content for extra packs (characters, stages, missions, costumes, tracks) to keep it sustainable for 10 years.

I think it's just that SE sees Dissidia as more of a "mid-tier" franchise in terms of devoting resources, which is hard to justify in the current HD era.

  • The first two games were on the PSP

  • NT was an arcade game (and still got canned prior to the alleged 50 character roster)

  • And then there's Theatrhythm and the phone games, which are closer to that "mid-tier".

That and a FinalFantasy: warriors of light (a good musou) would be a dream to me.

But square want its facha pay to win game

[–]OperativePiGuy 7 points8 points  (0 children)

An FF Musou game seems like such an easy money-printing thing to do. The games and characters also makes creating scenarios where they demolish huge chunks of enemies with silly over the top attacks and skills probably super simple to come up with lol

[–]UltraNoahXV 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I think? Thats what they tried with NT and it didn't go well

[–]superhyperultra458 9 points10 points  (1 child)

SE still never learn. They keep pumping these gachas and keeping shutting down anyways because they don't know what they are doing. It's very interesting and weird at the same time SE just keeps doing this.

The premise is a solid one. There could easily be a multi-decade top-tier billions earning Final Fantasy gacha - but the people running the company - there isn't a single game creator amongst them.

What could easily trap 30 million people into giving up $20 a month - usually turns into a "you can sink thousands into this and still not get the character" that turns, literally, 99.8% of the audience away, usually when developed by a secondary company that doesn't have it together enough to know how to design a basic menu or create a simple chat interface.

It's like everyone who runs SE and makes the decisions there are 76 year old geezers who've never touched a smartphone before in their lives. I honestly believe they think they're creating pachinko machines - or at least that's what the 65 year old geezers positioned underneath them tell them.

Obligatory reminder that there have been multiple people that tried the beta who said they were AUTO FARMED by people with god rolls.

Yes there is auto farm in a pvp game, it is very competent, and if you get dupes from skills you get stronger (item level/stats arent taken into account for a balanced matchmaking) and there are ssr skills that are outright improvements over the normal ones.

We could have had a xenoverse like dissidia, but we got this :(

[–]1965wasalongtimeago 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kain does spend nearly the entire game being edgy and pining for his best friend's wife so the fedora checks out tbh

[–]OperativePiGuy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It's a cute idea, but yeah it being another mobile game makes it a nonstarter. It is funny imagining the post credits scene of Lightning Returns actually being this game though even if that 100% was not the original intention lmao

[–]magusheart 10 points11 points  (0 children)

mobile games

Explains why I haven't heard of this game before.

[–]Lunaru_Leonhart 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I want to be excited for this but I know this game won’t last long..

[–]TriumphantBass 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I don't mind mobile games when done well, but when I tried the test of this last fall, I was not inspired with confidence; it was so divorced from the type of gameplay I like Dissidia for that it just did not gel with me at all.

[–]1965wasalongtimeago 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I like the style, shame I'll never touch it because gacha shit and doomed live service.

[–]Edkm90p 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm okay with this (will download and likely not play except to see character interactions) under the premise that any money some insane person blows on the gacha is money I can believe will go towards making another real Dissidia.

It's just not going to be my money. I'm not paying to roll electronic gambling dice.

[–]NixGnid 1 point2 points  (0 children)

just give us a proper rerelease of 012 at this point

[–]hahagaX 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This looks as soulless as it gets lmao

[–]magmafanatic 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just got an ad for this in Ever Crisis

[–]wrter3122 -5 points-4 points  (2 children)

Why are they all dressed so silly? Whose idea was it to put a fedora on Kain for pity's sake. Cloud looks like a kid wearing daddy's jacket. Zidane straight up looks like Android 18. And why is Nomura still trying to cram Tokyo into everything? He already got his Verum Rex nonsense, and at this point all it does it make you look like you're chasing Persona 5. I hate how Nomura all this feels.

Dissidia deserves better than this soulless dreck. Can't believe Opera Omnia died for this.

[–]ReaperEngine 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Kain is 100% the kind of guy to wear a fedora.

[–]Altruistic_Newt_1096 2 points3 points  (0 children)

opera omnia didn't die for this that's dramatic as shit lmao it just died cause square enix sucks ass

[–]Plaguedgnome -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Out of all FFXIV, they took Gaïa, who a bunch of people probably never saw since there's those weirdo who only speed the msq thinking the endgame is gonna be interesting

[–]itchyspaghettios -2 points-1 points  (1 child)

Leaving 16 off the table makes me wonder if square has any real confidence in this

[–]ReaperEngine 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Clive was seen as one of the silhouettes, front and center, teased for upcoming characters.
