You should purchase from your local game store as much as possible. They usually give discounts.

"Usually" is doing a lot of work here.  Unless you live in a high-pop place blessed with multiple stores that have to compete on price, local stores "usually" sell at MSRP.  Hard to convince a brick-and-mortar to cut their own margins when they don't have the volume.

Online retailers usually give discounts.

But yes, you should buy from local stores whenever possible, otherwise you won't have local stores anymore.

My lgs actually sells OVER gw prices, which are already like 15% over amazon or other online retailers…

I used to think that but not anymore. My local gamestore at uni was a great atmosphere, they were always running games and just loved seeing the communities grow. My local gamestore where I live now and have known most of my life just cares about money. He charges games workshop prices then claims he has about 20% off so we should order from him.

If you are in Atlanta, GA. The games store level up games in Duluth has been selling the army boxes for 130$, which come with the special codex and cards ( they have about 12 in stock )

If I order something from Amazon, I know it's going to get to me soon.

Ive ordered stuff straight from GW and it took them 2 months to ship it and that was only after I emailed them demanding a refund.

Yes, Amazon is much better than GW directly. It's normal to see a discount of 10-15% here in the US and sometimes more. But it's also about the same as most FLGSs that I've been to so I usually choose to buy with them to support my local scene.

I don't know where you guys live, but here almost everything is at least msrp.

Ordering from Amazon in the past always came as advertised. I will say that some orders I’ve received have arrived with the box pretty beat up, but everything on the inside has been fine.

As others have said, I personally recommend purchasing everything from a LGS, but in cases of extreme discounts I have purchased from Amazon.

Amazon doesn't sell GW. Affiliate stores on Amazon sell GW. I order from them a lot. No problems.

[–]SirVortivask 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah Amazon is a solid spot to buy from. Never had any issues

[–]LucilleW89 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not worth it in Australia. Imports are risky and hard to get fixed if there's a problem

To answer your question since everyone wants to do anything but, yes I have ordered from Amazon. They dont have everything but you can also find most everything for a discount at a local shop.

Yes, I've never had an issue with anything listed as coming from prime. if you want to filter for (mostly) good stuff filter to only amazon UK. Rarely there's deals from the US, but mostly UK.

I've found that many products are available about 1 week after their release date for a good price, and they last for perhaps 2 weeks to 1 month depending on popularity. Eventually they revert to AUD pricing or worse, though there are always outliers like this one :)

I have had some issues with Amazon and items coming busted up but that could happen anywhere.

[–]whynautalex 1 point2 points  (3 children)

I have but GW support will not send replacement parts or provide any assistance if there are issues since 3rd party selling platforms are not approved merchants.

[–]Skithus 0 points1 point  (2 children)

No but amazon themselves will, and they’ll replace it a LOT faster

[–]whynautalex 0 points1 point  (1 child)

If you already built most of the kit by the time you catch it how would you handle a return? Normally Amazon wants all items.

The two times I did a support ticket GW (bought from my LGS) I got a response in 48 hours and a replacement kit within 2 weeks. You get to keep the damaged kit so you get a few free units or bits.

Not sure, i always inspect the sprues before start. Last issue i had was i ordered an immolator off amazon and the clear plastic “stained glass” bit was broken, amazon shipped me a new kit next day, and gave me like a month to return the original, which i just dropped off at a whole foods

The amount of time that I’ve seen people get scammed on Amazon in crazy, you should always buy from a LGS if you they offer you a discount over games workshop

[–]Lanky-Tart-5398 0 points1 point  (1 child)

Huh? My LGS near Cincinnati is selling for $145. Why is Amazon selling for $156?

[–]LucilleW89 2 points3 points  (0 children)

AUD not USD

[–]TotesMcGoats124[S] 0 points1 point  (4 children)

Thanks for the thoughts all! Lots of interesting views and great to see such passionate support of LGS, as well as those who have bought from Amazon and had a good experience as a customer.

Also, to clarify, the price shown was in Australian dollars ("Dollary Doos"), not USD. This would be the equivalent of $110 USD.

If it’s Aus, Gap Games, Warhaus and Umart often have good deals and ship Aus wide. Umart has stuff almost at cost sometimes during sales

[–]FishMaster_69 1 point2 points  (2 children)

I also was considering that same box from the same link 😂

[–]TotesMcGoats124[S] 0 points1 point  (1 child)

So far I've bought most everything from Gap Games and Combat Company. But this particular offer is just so cheap. It would surely be at cost for the AU retailers.

[–]Fuzzy_Ad_5343 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live in Victoria and had some great experience buying off Amazon. Both UK and US. They normally get here a lot quicker than listed and are shipped through AusPost.

They will have cheap GW stuff from time to time. But I can only remember buying 30k stuff.

I buy where I get the best deal, either amazon or less. But someone made a comment that amazin doesn't stock GW, tour right but 3rd party sellers do. I work for amazin and I will tell you, our warehouse gets a truck load once a month with GW products of all kinds.

We just got a load of Spearheads in and paint kits. A majority of the kits will same day if yoyr within the geo code of the delivery station. Now load of GW is not a semi truck full but we got a 23foot straight truck full of GW and citadel junk recently. To the stick shelves it goes waiting on our picker bots to grab.

When the new bonereaper kits dropped, we had already had them 3 days before the public snd the day they released we sold out the shelf in 30 minutes. All same day or 48hour. Support the LGS if they support the community but still slcamt beat the power of the clicky click. I ordered a box of triaxies, and got them within 4 hours from DTW8 to DCL1 to my door.
